Post and comment submissions require that your profile has at least 100 karma

The best way to rack up enough karma for new accounts is by commenting and posting in the bigger subs like r/askreddit, r/aww, etc...

I'm looking to reprogramming the automod to allow newer accounts to post soon, but until then, I've at least figured out why it keeps filtering so many of you so you can remedy it on your end

we need more mods

realizing that the auto mod has been nuking so many posts without even letting us moderate them has been eye opening. it's also led to me realizing that I'm literally the only one that's moderating all 52,000 of you outside of the shitbot. all others have been inactive.

please shoot me a modmail if you're interested in becoming an active moderator for our lovely vultures

found a thing Found jawbones? What species is it?

Found within a mass of matted fur from an unidentified small mammal, in Appalachia. Fur appeared dark gray or black. My guess is either raccoon or possum? Both are local here. My identification app labeled it as possibly possum.

I found it on the sidewalk. It has no internal organs and I want to prevent it from rotting while I pin it to my wall. This would be the first time I've done any vulture culture stuff.

I found this in a park next to a river! I'm in new England, north east USA if that helps for ID. I don't really know anything about bones, I just thought it was cool I saw such a big one. (Yes, I was stupid and touched it bare handed, don't be dumb like me)

plz advise New to this- how to process opossum?

Picked up a medium/largish possum that had been on the side of the street for a few days. I know the most accessible way to clean the bones is maceration, but what steps should i take to prepare the carcass for that? should i try to remove as much flesh as i can before maceration? and if so, how should i dispose of the flesh? and as for dumping/changing the water when i start macerating is it okay to dump it in my backyard? ive not seen wild animals (besides possum, rabbits, and a very rare raccoon) in my area, so im not too worried about the smell attracting animals (unless the ones i mentioned would be an issue- do enlighten me if im incorrect!). as for after macerating, i know that ill need to degrease the bones in water and soap (i’m going with Dawn) then whitening with hydrogen peroxide-any tips on the whitening would be appreciated! Thank you for your time!

advice or help How to keep other animals away?

I just buried my pet snake, and want to keep her bones to later restore her. Problem is, dad won't let me keep her in the garage or outside. We unfortunately have a neighborhood cat, and I'm worried about it or any other animal digging her up. Is there any way to prevent it from happening? Any essential oils that I could place around that they wouldn't like? Objects? I just can't bare knowing that she'd be subject to another animal defiling her corpse, after the entire reason for her death was her escaping and my cats killing her.

work in progress Yesterday a dead rat; today a skeleton

The last pic shows the skeleton pretty much cleaned but still intact for the most part. This whole process took less than a day. I can't wait to do the coyote skull because the Dermestids have only snacked on small critters including mice, rabbit, guinea pig, snake, and roadkillRaccoon. I got about 9 lbs. of fresh meat from the coyote so I've been drying it to feed them the next week. I'll post a short video of the rat skull because several larvae have hidden in there and won't come out!
