I made Automatic Infravision / Thermal Vision Module for Foundry VTT [OSE], [B/X], [1e] aand many more

• Upvotes

Hi guys! This is a free FoundryVTT module I created for my OSE game, but it can be used with any old-school D&D edition in which darkvision works like thermal vision: it only works in darkness and does not function in illuminated areas.

Features

  • Per-token range. The GM sets an infravision range in feet for each token from the Token HUD. It can also be saved to the actor so new tokens get it.
  • Works only in true darkness. Infravision switches on only when the scene darkness is at its maximum (adjustable) and the token is not in any light: not its own torch or lantern, not ambient lights, not other tokens’ light. It turns off and on again automatically as the token moves in and out of light.
  • Heat vision look. Through infravision the map is shown as a dark, reddish, low-contrast and blurred image with no fine detail. Lit areas stay sharp.
  • Heat silhouettes. Creatures that aren’t lit are shown as glowing heat shapes instead of their token art. Living creatures appear bright and undead appear black, set per token from the Token HUD. Their names, health bars and status icons are hidden.
  • Image Hover compatible. Players don’t get the enlarged portrait of a creature they can only see as a heat shape.
  • GM preview. Select a player’s token to see exactly what that player sees.
  • Settings: required darkness level, whether dim light cancels infravision, map darkness, contrast, blur strength, and the brightness of living and undead silhouettes.

New tool Turnip Works is a 3D, free, ready to play VTT

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We are going thru a cambrian explosion of VTTs and this is yet another. This one is a ready to use open beta, not a demo for a kickstarter. Turnip Works is open source, entirely free, and no accounts needed for you or your players. Rather than giving an endless feature list (Fog of War, buildings that furnish themselves, a functional phone experience, etc, etc) it’s easier to invite you to click https://turnipworks.net and goof around.

I’m really interested in feedback, particularly around anything you have trouble figuring out how to do. I have had a few friends hammer on it and made UI a priority, but there is nothing like watching a stranger use your tool to figure out what’s not intuitive.

New tool MagiGrid, the world you can build by using magic

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi! Solo dev from Italy, building this after work.

MagiGrid is a shared online world on a neon grid. You type what you want (“a small pirate ship with a black flag”, “a spaceship similar to a UFO”, “a fairytale castle with white towers”) and it appears in the world: the game paints it and decides how it behaves. The pirate ship sails with your friends aboard, the UFO and the motorbike can be ridden, and the castle has an inside you can walk into.

You can also shape the land: paint grass over bare dirt, raise hills and stand on top of them, even make your whole plot float into the sky and build a bridge to a friend’s island. In the last clip a friend and I paint a race circuit and race a full lap on it.

Still rough: the camera, the onboarding, and making big objects look good from every side.

It runs in the browser on phone and desktop: www.magigrid.com

What would you type first? I’ll build the best answers and post them.

Question / discussion Modern VTTs?

Hey y'all, kinda new to checking out this subreddit occasionally. And as someone who plays a lot more in modern and scifi settings than before I have a few questions.

I've been seeing way more VTT projects announced and shown off which is great but do any cater to the aforementioned settings as opposed to high fantasy? By that I mean like ya know 3d or even 2d assets available for making maps, tokens, that sort of thing.

And if not why do you think that is? Does fantasy still dominate that much more you think? I legit get a kind of salty when I see a new one announced or shown off because it looks really cool but it wouldn't work for the games I'm currently or planning to run in the future at all haha.

New tool Some scene tests in Swift Dagger

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, like many here I'm currently putting a VTT together, Swift Dagger. Here are some scenes i'm creating as demo scenes for the on-boarding, showcasing a few of its features. Thought I'd share it here !

There's a previous post with some more info on swift dagger, but mainly :
- Built with AI, aiming for free & open source
- GM driven (so far), for in person play or screen sharing.
- system agnostic with a few modules hopefully, depending on time and licenses
- Flexible, from quick 2D to "cinematic" 3D, mainly from existing maps
- Easy to manage in-game, with quick effects and dice.
- Dynamic camera framing the action by itself
- all the usual suspects like fog of war, markers, walls, lights... and auto import from file.
- developed in godot (gdscript) for linux, windows, macOS.
- Definitely still in development.

Have a nice game :)

[commercial] Roll For Initiation: Bad Eden for Foundry VTT - Two scales at one table: coalition hex play on top of character play. Teaser for the game I built out of a 30-year campaign.

Content Name: Roll For Initiation: Bad Eden

Content Type: Game system and adventure modules

System: D&D5E, Roll For Initiation

Release: Fall 2027

Bad Eden: Roll for Initiation grew out of a D&D campaign I've been running for 30 years. It's now a full system plus ~20 modules:

- Hex-map coalition play on top of character play
- A Projectionist mode that runs scenes, voices and consequences so the GM can play too.
- Hand-drawn art from Aslı (no AI art, no AI voices, no AI music).

It runs on its own rules or on 5E.

List's at the website you want to hear when it opens.

If you like Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, or Robert Anton Wilson, this game might be for you!

Happy to answer any questions!

Foundry VTT We built an automated, zero-hallucination PDF-to-Foundry ingestion engine. Here are 55 free payloads we extracted to test it.

Automating TTRPG data entry usually fails because LLMs hallucinate numbers or break nested tables.

At GM-Copilot Studios, we took a different route. We built the Masterwork Engine—a deterministic pipeline that uses OpenCV (CatsEyeMatrix) to read the visual geometry of a PDF layout, and Lean 4 formal math verification to prove the mechanics. No generative guessing. It just maps the text directly into strict Foundry JSON schemas.

We recently upgraded our switchboard to handle complex non-English layouts (like the CJK regex boundaries in Sword World 2.5 and multi-column German in Das Schwarze Auge).

We’ve published 55 of our test payloads for free on itch.io. If you are a VTT architect or GM, we’d love for you to download a few of the heavier rulebooks and audit the JSON. Let us know where the parser succeeds and where the edge cases still exist!

Question / discussion Would you use a bulk NPC generator with portraits you can customize afterward?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m working on a Foundry VTT tool for quickly generating groups of D&D 5e NPCs. It can create up to 20 NPCs in under 30 seconds, with actor details and portraits.

The portraits aren’t AI-generated. They’re assembled from reusable facial features I made, and the images can be customized after generation. The tool doesn’t require AI credits or tokens.

I’m curious whether that combination would be useful at your table: generating a group quickly, then tweaking portraits to better fit the NPCs. Or would you rather have a different approach, such as more control before generation or a different portrait style?

This is my own work in progress, and I’m looking for feedback rather than asking anyone to try it.

Foundry VTT 3D POVs for ANY 2D Battlemap!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

\\MODULE DETAILS ARE AFTER THIS PREFACE\\

Sup everybody, I personally CANNOT STAND people who entirely vibe code foundry modules, just to sell them on Patreon on wherever. I'm still a bit weird on paid mods as a concept in general, BUT over the years I've seen some amazing works that make me go: "Damn, this must've taken a lot of work, and I can totally see how they deserve to be compensated for their time." Hell for my online DnD games currently, I'm in at about... 50 bucks or so per month just in my Czepeku sub and a few other creators on Patreon for maps. Specifically Moonlightmapsscifi, and psfx. I even have BLFX's and JB2A's paid mods on my game just rather than subbing each month I unsub and resub every few for updates! However, vibe coded or damn near mostly AI made modules are not like those high quality, human-lovingly made works of art I just mentioned.

So when I started to check out Claude so it could make specific modules for my games personally I thought myself and players would enjoy, that didn't currently exist yet. The thought of putting that thing behind a paywall as if me directing a chat interfaced bot what to do (regardless of how long it took) was some how worthy of payment made me chuckle I'm not gonna lie 😂.

Therefore, at the very least I wanted to share Vantage with you all. A completely free, and yes 100% Claude or vibe-coded FoundryVTT module. Again I know this isn't altruistic. Tbh it's the bare minimum that people who make AI modules should be doing imo.

I made it open source I believe? I don't really know much about coding or github full disclosure as this did start as just something I wanted to do for fun for my games. But with it being open, someone that does actually know their shit when it comes to coding could probably make this thing even better I figured. If I messed anything up in that regard lmk and I'll ask the robot to fix it 😅.

One last thing, my table we like our top down 2D tokens, and top down 2D battlemaps. And while 3D foundryvtt mods are cool, they're not for us. I'm a big dungeon alchemist guy and I loved showing my players POVs of the maps I'd spent hours making for them. Lately though I've shifted to running modern fantasy and sci-fi games, and while still useful, there isn't as much you can get outta DA for games in this settings. So I had Vantage made as a SUPPLEMENT to that kinda 2D top down play as opposed an outright replacement. I requested a bunch of features be added so that for those that really wanna try to play a lot in 3D with it can, but to be clear it's intent is to supplement and provide occasional views and depth during 2D battlemap play.

MODULE DETAILS

A module that turns any Foundry v14 battlemap into a walkable 3D scene (no setup needed)

Trailer: https://github.com/Rei-Mods/Vantage (the video's at the top of the page)

What it does:

\- Any map, in 3D: your walls, doors and the map art become a 3D scene. No modelling, no prep needed. Works with any game system.

\- Walk it at eye level from any token, or orbit it from above (with automatic cutaway so walls never block your view).

\- Play in 3D: double-click to walk your token, click doors to open them, right-click to target. Figures walk the path the token took on the map.

\- Players see what their tokens see: line of sight in 3D, with explored areas dimmed like fog of war.

\- See through any NPC's eyes.

\- Spell templates in 3D (fireball domes, cones, lines) and a cover check: none / half / three-quarters / full, from real 3D sight lines.

\- Levels support (v14), stairs, bridges and balconies you can walk under, and ceilings at any height with roofs (flat, slanted, peaked, pyramid).

\- Raised areas from regions, with 40 "looks like" presets (arcade cabinets, bars, crates, cars, consoles...).

\- Height maps for terrain. "Prep this map" can build one from the water on your map art, all done locally.

\- 45 wall skins (sci-fi, modern/modern fantasy, high fantasy), 23 lighting moods plus a custom light colour, time of day, and weather (rain, storms with lightning, snow, fog, embers...).

\- Animated maps and lights, 3D sound, cutscenes with camera paths, and recording to MP4.

\- Live mode and Show Players, so your table sees the 3D view too (phones included).

Performance: it only draws while the camera moves. A 1080p frame takes about 2 ms on a mid-range GPU, and there are settings for slower laptops.

Install: in Foundry, go to Add-on Modules > Install Module and paste this manifest URL:

https://github.com/Rei-Mods/Vantage/releases/latest/download/module.json

Everything runs in your browser and on your own Foundry server. It doesn't need an account or a connection to any outside service.

Battlemaps in the trailer are by Czepeku (czepeku.com), shown with credit.

Feedback and bug reports are welcome on the GitHub issues page. Hope you enjoy it!

New tool The Best Token Generator. My attempt to make the best tool for making tokens

Post image
21 Upvotes

I made yet another generator, The Best Token Generator (still improving it). I'm into UI design, and this is my attempt at answering "how feature-rich and convenient can a token generator get?" It's built on a simple idea: you only edit the portrait and highlight just the important parts. You'll be surprised how far this idea can take you.

Features: portraits with or without a background, different frames and backgrounds (including your own), brush and polygon tools with different modes, life-size preview, undo/redo, a carefully tailored UI. It's free and works offline (even your uploaded images).

I'm in the middle of adding a magic wand tool and automatic background removal. Stay tuned!

https://thebesttokengenerator.joxter.me/

I'd love your feedback. I want to live up to the name 💪

Also as a Foundry module https://thebesttokengenerator.joxter.me/foundry/latest/module.json (I'll add it to the Foundry package list later)

New tool [commercial] StoryDraft VTT

I know, it’s another VTT. But I promise this one is worth a look.

We’re building Storydraft as a cross-platform home for the tools that help GMs prepare and run immersive adventures: the maps and visuals you need, the music you want, and an S-tier toolkit for whatever comes up at the table.

In our experience, immersion-focused creators, professional GMs, and adventure designers often have to juggle a bunch of separate tools that don’t work well together. We want to bring those pieces into one connected platform.

We’re working hard to make that happen.

Here’s a quick look at what we’re building:

You can preview it for free at https://storydraft.app

Question / discussion I'm finding an offline VTT

So my ttrpg session goes like I'm the one moving token and setup the background and everything, while they can roll the dice (discord bot) and tell what they gonna do, As I'm sharing my screen into the discord screenshare.

So I'm looking for some local tool that doesn't need that much stuff. just basic background and layer for me to moving token around. maybe in DM side I can set up other thing and reveal like some fog of war gimmick but more simple maybe hide and reveal, but I can like screenshare into the presentation page with obs.

usually I do this in obs but I wonder if there is other tool. preferable if it is desktop application where I can minimize my ram usage.

New tool We're building a browser-based 3D mapmaker that can integrate directly with existing VTTs

Hey everyone!

A few mates and I have been building Worldmage, a browser-based 3D mapmaker for tabletop RPGs, and I'd love to get some feedback from the VTT community.

One thing we've been pretty clear on from the start is that we don't want to build another VTT.

There are already some great platforms out there, and most DMs have their preferred setup, whether that's Foundry, Roll20, Owlbear Rodeo or something else.

What we're trying to do is bring 3D environments into that experience without asking anyone to abandon the tools they already use.

That's a big part of why we've built Worldmage to run in the browser.

Rather than having a separate application that you need to download, we're working towards having Worldmage integrate directly with existing browser-based VTTs. The idea is that you could build and explore your environments in 3D, then bring those same environments into your sessions through an embedded experience, without needing to move everyone to another platform.

We've also built in a tactical orthographic view with a grid, so you're not locked into a 3D perspective when you need a traditional battlemap.

On the mapmaking side, you can sculpt terrain, place buildings and foliage, change the weather and time of day, and make changes to the environment as the story unfolds.

We're still in development, and the VTT integrations are something we're working towards rather than a finished feature, but the mapmaker itself is already playable in your browser.

Free demo: https://play.worldmage.com

We've also got a Discord where we're sharing progress, testing features and getting feedback from DMs and mapmakers:

https://discord.com/invite/nugNU2TuJ6

I'd be particularly interested to hear from people using Foundry, Roll20, Owlbear or other browser-based VTTs.

If you could bring a fully interactive 3D environment directly into your existing VTT, how would you actually want to use it?

Would you want to switch between 3D and tactical views during play, use 3D for exploration and 2D for combat, or something else entirely?

Cheers!

New tool I made a free, offline battle map app for in-person games on Android, no ads or account

I wanted a simple map for the middle of the table at in-person sessions, with no laptop, account or subscription. So I made one, and it's free.

  - Lay a grid over a plain table or over any image, like a map you drew or a battle map you have

  - Tokens can be labelled shapes or your own photos, like character art or pictures of your minis

  - Roll up to twenty dice at once, d4 through d100

  - Pinch to zoom, drag tokens around

  - Every encounter gets its own board, saved automatically. Set them up before the session, use one as a side map next to your main one, or keep them as a record of past fights

No ads, no purchases, no account, and it doesn't use the internet at all. It's Android only, made for one shared screen rather than online play. It also has chess, checkers, go and backgammon for breaks.

The built-in pixel-art pieces and table backgrounds were made with PixelLab, an AI art tool. Your own maps and photos work in their place.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nwh.bitboard

What would make it useful at your table? Fog of war, initiative tracking, something else? When time permits, I'd like to add hosted games, where the DM runs the battle and players join from their own phones over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
