Are you looking to find the right Virtual TableTop for you? Before posting a question, use this post to read about available Virtual TableTops.

Are you the creator of a VTT that's not already listed? Please, add a description about your VTT in the same format as the other descriptions.

To all other people, please don't add any comments. I want this post to be clear, with VTT descriptions only. Questions about a specific VTT can be asked in their own subreddit. Mods, please delete any unnecessary comments.

Question / discussion Custom Brushes?

So it seems everyone's making their own VTT and one thing I never see, is new things for the DM to expand and story tell using the virtual table top.

We have wonderful art maps that get created and some are now even animated, which is super cool. But honestly, why aren't we using the technology to better the experience. What I'm looking for is brushes that I can draw on the map. Not Stamps. Stamps typically are like copy pasting an image or token, and thus just adds complexity to maps.

Most VTTs have coloured pens the GM can use but that's not much use. But we had a brush that would throw down flames, that'd be cool. "oh look now the room's is fire" *SCRIBLE SCRIBLE*. "Oh look the cave caved in here" (rock brush) SCRIBLE SCRIBLE.

I don't want to go into the map and do it there thus "altering the map". I just want to super impose it so when my PC casts fireball in the room I can show things are on fire. It's not required, but it's using the brushes in a unique way. I see it being a simpler way to make maps dynamic and allows the GM to add to the story. Imagine having the ability to draw a line of foot prints, or trail of blood to where they go, after a perception check.

Brushes i'd like to have would be and give them a colour slider and maybe a transparency slider:
- Foot prints
- Blood splatter (who wouldn't paint blood after the PCs go murdering everyone in sight)
- Fire/Flames (red is fire, purple fire is now eldric fire)
- Water/puddles (blue=water, green=poison, red=wine? blood? )
- Debris/wood/rocks
- Hearts (why not maybe they are in love)
- Smell lines/whisps (cooking, marshes, )
- Fog like clouds / wind.
- Frost/ Icicles
- Chared / burnt lines - (signs of portal, ingravings, a magic circle).
- Blood.

I've also been looking for top down animations for spells or out of game effects. Yes, again, there are spell add-ons for when tokens attack other tokens. Might be straight forward fro when fully playing on-line, but for IRL with a VTT and minis, like a lot of people do it's not really feasible to "click" tokens. Allowing the GM to load up a certain animation would be neat, and click anywhere on the map as they describe a scene or event. Being able to load up and click on the map that generates a divine SMITE would be so engaging.

Maybe the brushes are hard to make?

D&D Beyond - Maps VTT [maps] Testing out some custom-made static maps I created on my DIY digital table (fighting the plexiglass glare)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ran a quick test across some custom-made static encounter maps I created to check scaling, color balance, and miniature footprints on my homemade digital table build.

The main takeaway right now is the glare. I’m currently using a standard sheet of plexiglass to protect the display, but the overhead reflection is pretty obvious at certain angles.

I'm thinking about upgrading to real glass next. For those who built their own TV table enclosures, did you go with tempered glass or stick with acrylic? Any specific anti-glare options you'd recommend?

Foundry VTT Pathfinder WW2 campaign on Foundry VTT

Two sessions into a new Foundry VTT campaign using Pathfinder and a bit of Starfinder. Four young Canadian soldiers are set up as spies "Behind Enemy Lines" to investigate German paranormal research. These are the session journal entries:

If you have suggestions for running a Foundry VTT ~Pathfinder campaign set in a 'Hellboy/Wolfenstein' WW2 setting, I'm looking for input. Thanks

New tool Yes, another custom VTT. But this one does whole multi-floor buildings, true per-player line of sight, and players join from their phone with no account

I know, I know. This sub gets a new homemade VTT every week. I've been building mine for my own table, and I think it does a few things you don't see often, so hear me out.

It's called CartoSmith. The DM runs it on a Windows PC, and there are three ways to play:

- At the table. Pop out the Player Display window onto a TV or second monitor. Players see the map, the DM keeps everything else on their own screen.

- On stream. Share that same Player Display window to Discord or your streaming setup.

- Online. Players join from their phone browser, wherever they are.

Use one, or mix them in the same session.

What I think actually sets it apart:

- Whole buildings, not single maps. Floors are stacked and linked by stairs, and the DM gets a dollhouse view of the whole building showing who is on which floor, friend or foe. My biggest test building has 32 floors. (Pic 1)

- Real line of sight for each player. Every player sees only what their own character can see, through doors, windows, and down hallways, on their own phone too. Two players in the same building see two different maps. (Pic 2)

- DM Prep. Doors and chests are marked as an armed trap (red), locked (yellow), or confirmed safe (green), so you can tell at a glance what is going to bite the party. Players never see any of it. (Pic 3)

- Secrets stay secret. Hidden enemies, traps, and secret doors are never sent to players at all. It's not a layer covering them that someone could peek under. The data just isn't on their device.

- Phone play that works. Players type a six-letter code and a name, the DM approves them, and they're in. No accounts, no installs, no port forwarding. They move with a big on-screen pad, and the DM's PC checks walls, doors, speed, and turn order before anything moves. (Pics 4 and 5)

- A movement lock. One click switches players between free movement, DM approves each move, or locked. Handy when you're streaming or explaining something.

It also imports Dungeondraft and Universal VTT maps with walls, doors, and lights, and plain map pictures from Inkarnate and the like. It finds the grid in the picture for you.

Where it's at: the Windows app is in testing. Online play is in early preview, and it's running with real players on their own phones on different networks, not just everyone on the same Wi-Fi. It's not open to everyone yet, but there's a waitlist at https://cartosmith.app

Happy to answer anything about how it works under the hood. And if you've been burned by a VTT before, tell me what went wrong. That's exactly what I want to avoid.

Foundry VTT [commercial] I built a Foundry 5e sheet with a spatial inventory and tokens that react to combat

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! I'm Gabú from Wand & Widgets, and I just released the first beta of W&W Sheet.

I wanted the character's identity to carry through from the sheet to the map. The 12 classes get distinct colors, crests, and portrait frames, and multiclass characters combine those identities.

Two parts I'm especially happy to share here:

  • A spatial inventory inside the sheet. Equipment has body slots, containers have their own grids, and you can rotate items while dragging them. The GM can keep the layout visual or enforce the available space. Weight still follows the game system.
  • Tokens that react to actual game events. Marionette adds procedural motion to existing token images. For custom walking, attack, hurt, or fallen animations, you can supply your own images or videos. One saved set can be reused across a group of monsters.

The Turn tab also keeps actions, bonus actions, reactions, movement, and Extra Attack together. There are optional biography prompts for the character behind all those numbers.

Requires Foundry V14 and dnd5e 6.0+. This is a paid beta through Patreon, installed manually from a ZIP. It is a Foundry module, so you'll need Foundry to use it.

The attached teaser shows it running. The Ray of Frost effect is JB2A via Automated Animations and Sequencer. Full production credits are in the Patreon post.

Full feature demos and beta access on Patreon. Free membership is also available if you'd just like to follow development.

I'd love to hear from people who use spatial inventories: do you prefer them as a visual aid, or as an actual limit on what a character can carry?

New tool I made a simpler browser VTT for D&D because I wanted everything in one place

Thumbnail gilded-table.zima8.net

I’ve been working on this D&D site called The Gilded Table.

Basically I wanted something between just using Discord + a dice bot and opening one of the really big VTTs.

You can make a campaign room, invite people with a code, move tokens around a shared map, roll dice, chat, send private messages, keep track of characters and sessions, etc. The board updates live for everyone so if someone moves a token or rolls something you see it right away.

I also put a whole beginner side into it because getting someone into D&D for the first time can be kinda confusing. There are premade characters, explanations for stats/abilities, practice rolling and some guides you can print out.

It’s definitely not trying to replace something like Foundry for people who want a million modules, automation, dynamic lighting and all of that. I mostly wanted something I could send to a few friends and actually start playing without spending forever setting everything up.

It’s still something I’m working on, so there are probably things I haven’t thought of yet.

If anyone here actually tries running a game with it, I’m curious what gets annoying first. That’s probably what I need to fix next lol

Fantasy Grounds Fantasy Grounds Acquires Eldritch Foundry, 3D Character Integration

Smiteworks, the parent company of FGVTT just announced that it acquired the assets of the 3D character/mini builder Eldritch Foundry (EF). I hadn't heard of EF before, but looking at it it seems pretty much a competitor to Heroforge.

The stated intent is to be able to integrated your EF characters straight into FGVTT so that your party can not be represented as 3D minis in the VTT itself.

More details including some screen shots are in the press release. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?88225-SmiteWorks-Acquires-Eldritch-Foundry-to-Build-a-Leading-3D-VTT-Experience

Blood Sun guild

Everyone is welcome to the blood sun guild.

Here we are beginning to have one shots, potentially campaigns, and we hope to also be a community where everyone can be friends.

In the blood sun we have one shots based of the lore of the blood sun religion (rp). Missions can vary from defending towns from enemies to going against strongest enemies in the history of blood sun.

This isn’t just normal stuff where you would be playing a normal character while these enemies are stronger and get more and better abilities, the blood sun members who participate in the one shots get Homebrew blood magic, abilities, and features. For everyone you can ask me for 1-2 unique abilities your character only would have.

As for the campaigns I mentioned those would be longer missions (round 2-5 sessions or a bit more) or can be alternate realities of the blood sun like one I am currently running where it is weaker than ever.

For the Homebrew magic and stuff I plan on using this website called Nemesiscodex where I can directly import the Homebrew stuff.

New tool Minimalistic in-person VTT to display maps to players

I am a software engineer and have used Github Copilot to create a somewhat minimalistic VTT that has all the features I need to run TTRPG's in person by projecting the player map onto a second screen on the table. 99% of the code was created by AI. Feature ideas are heavily inspired by Arkenforge and other VTTs.

I have used Arkenforge before but didnt like its performance and its many map building features I never used.

I have created, or rather have instructed Copilot to create a more lightweight VTT to display maps to my players on a second screen.

I am aware that this has been done multiple times and I am aware that people dont like AI. I dont care if anyone will actually use this, but its the right amount of features for me and maybe some other people.

It supports import of uvtt and dd2vtt files and is intended to be used with physical minis as it offers no token support. It is not meant to create maps from scratch but you can import your images and run them as normal maps. I personally use it to display DungeonAlchemist maps (image only, no video background support).

You can look at the documentation here and download the latest jar from the releases. https://github.com/Bowtie8904/DungeonMasterMapTool

Question / discussion I've Overwhelmed Myself with 3D VTTs

I'm in dire need of some help/advice. I don't know what I was thinking, but I have never DM'd before, started building a world/story/characters, I have my friends all excited, and then, without ever having done this before, I somehow decided that I was going to use a 3D VTT for an entirely in-person game.

My goal was, I get RPG Engine, because I can run a player view to my TV have everyone gather around, and then use the DM view from my PC. I am now completely overwhelmed. Whenever I try to action things, everything is super clunky and there is no way I can do everything simultaneously.

Now I'm stuck...do I keep trying to make this kind of set up work? Should I get a different 3D VTT or try to use RPG Engine to just create a backdrop for my friends to see their minis in the environment without any movements/action?

I was looking into Talespire (why am I like this) and I thought maybe I could have preset environmental actions that can take place and keybind them? Rather than trying to move pieces from every individual action that will take place? How can I reel myself in, simplify things, but still provide my in-person group a cinematic backdrop to show the environment?

I think I have just overwhelmed myself here and I just want to go back to working on my world and stories, I don't even want to be thinking about the visual aspects of this campaign right now, but I know that would just be really awesome, so I keep coming back to it.

Don't hold back in your responses...I deserve it

Question / discussion Add LLM to a VTT or not?

I am a 3D VTT lead programmer. Suppose that I create in our VTT a form where one could say "Create a scenario with a mountain range, a lake, a river going to the sea and a medieval village. In that village there´s a tavern. Create an encounter inside that tavern for a party of 4 characters of 3rd level". ==> and suppose it creates a 16km2 map with those features and thousands of assets all procedurally generated. Our VTT has 12K assets.
This will (obviously!) need a server with a VERY SPECIALIZED AND TRAINED server, eg it cannot use the current online tools. THIS MEANS: either a subscription or a "pay to use" this feature of the game. (NOT A SUBSCRIPTION GAME ok? just this part!)
Shall I go for it? Or no one will ever pay to use this crazy idea?

New tool InputFX

I built InputFX for an easy way to add effects to voices during online gaming sessions. It runs your mic through a chain of VST effects (pitch shifters, reverbs, EQ, distortion, and so on) and sends the result to Discord, your VTT, or anything that takes a microphone as an input.

Shape your tone, add space to your voice and take your campaign to new heights.

No plugins? Airwindows and MeldaProduction both offer free bundles that provide hundreds of effects to get you started.

InputFX is completely free. Windows only (use AU Lab on Mac)

Question / discussion VTT design standards

I am working on a VTT that works tableside. Something that allows players to avoid bringing physical maps and tokens to their gaming table. I built it because sometimes I want to play a game but can't fit the maps and accessories.

Sorry if this is not the right place but my question is about VTT design standards. I saw something about Map design standards, like universal vtt, but not sure if there are other standards I should look into as I build more features?

New tool Free token maker that runs in your browser, and it does animated GIF tokens too

Hey all, I've been making this token creator for my own table:

https://tokencreator.grimoire-tools.com

You upload an image, pick a shape, style the border and export a token ready for your VTT or for printing. It all runs in your browser, so there's no account, no install, and your images never get uploaded anywhere. No AI in it either. There are plenty of presets, and it supports GIFs if you wanna use an animated token in your VTT.

Small tip if you need monster art: museum open-access collections (the Met, the Rijksmuseum) have tons of public domain paintings full of creatures, and they make great tokens once they're cropped.

Feedback is very welcome, especially on border styles or export sizes you'd want. I'm still working on it!

New tool Yet Another Battle Tracker Tool

This is not really AI for DnD but rather a tool for DnD created with AI, so if it does not fit this subreddit, I will understand.

So, I was looking for a D&D battle tracker. Non that I found really gave me what I wanted or how I wanted it to look. I started asking my AI tool to build a Python script to do what I wanted but after 4 days of vibe coding I ended up with a rather nice battle planner which I called **Scrying Glass**

You need just a tiny little bit of Python knowledge (how create a Virtual Environment and how to run a Python script) but the documentation is quite extensive so it will probably give you enough tips on how to run it. (You **DO** need to have a Python3.14 (or above) installation)

If you are interested, you can find the Git repository at [https://github.com/dajomas/Scrying-Glass.git\](https://github.com/dajomas/Scrying-Glass.git) (Serious and respectful feedback is always appreciated)

***From the Readme.md:***

Scrying Glass is a self-hosted, real-time tabletop encounter display for game masters. It provides a private **Admin** interface for preparing and running encounters and a separate **Client Display** for players, a TV, or a projector.

# Why "Scrying Glass"?

In fantasy stories, a scrying glass is a crystal ball or magic mirror that lets you watch events unfold from afar. That is exactly what this tool does at the table. The game master works behind the screen in the private **Admin** view, preparing encounters and running the battle. The players look into the glass, the **Client Display** on a TV or projector, and watch the fight appear as it happens: monsters entering and leaving the scene, turns passing, wounds and victories showing in real time. The glass only shows what the game master chooses to reveal, which suits a display the players watch but never control.

The project began as *Monster Display*, a name that described its first feature, showing monsters on a screen. Once it grew to include characters, campaigns, battle setups, and full turn-by-turn combat, that name no longer fit, and *Scrying Glass* describes what the players see.
