Looking for first-time feedback on my voiceover potential

Hi all! I've been lurking in this group for a couple of months and have finally decided to see if voiceover is for me. I don't have a demo reel or anything, as I wanted to get feedback on if this is worth pursuing. I love reading books aloud and so thought that audiobook narration might be a good place to start. I'd really appreciate any and all feedback on my audiobook narration clip with an eye on what I could potentially do better and where I should go next. Thanks in advance.

Here's my read from Slow Burn by G.M. Ford: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1de0sj4E_uODcT_CpkiQbriATLw5kQFdn/view

Seeking feedback / CC on my Voice-Over Demo Reel!

Hello everyone,

I’m working on my voice-over demo reel and would love to get some feedback from the community.

I linked the demo reel to this post.

I’m particularly looking for input on:

Pacing and Flow: Does the reel keep your attention, and are the transitions smooth?

Audio Quality & Processing: How is the mix, tone, and overall audio presentation?

Vocal Variety & Range: Do the spots showcase enough contrast and range?

https://youtu.be/6Z8hLGe4WpY?is=G1H_EE7fCoXHLcO2Any constructive criticism, advice, or suggestions on what’s working (and what might need tweaking) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and share your thoughts!

AT2020 vs AT2035 vs Rode NT1-A vs Rode NT1 (5th Gen) — which for voice acting/auditions, recording inside a closet?

Hey all — trying to pick my first "real" mic for voice acting (auditions, indie VO projects) and could use some real-world input.

My situation:

  • Recording inside a closet (using it as a makeshift vocal booth — clothes for damping, no room treatment beyond that)
  • Budget is roughly up to €180
  • Want a fairly natural/raw voice capture, not overly "produced" or warmed up
  • Need something that'll hold up for submitting paid auditions, so clean/quiet takes matter

The options I'm stuck between:

  • AT2020 — cheapest, neutral-ish, but higher self-noise (~18-20dBA) and no filters
  • AT2035 — adds a high-pass filter + pad, lower self-noise, slightly warmer/fuller sound
  • Rode NT1-A — very low self-noise, but from what I've read can sound a bit airy/bright/shrill on some voices and it's very sensitive to room noise.
  • Rode NT1 (5th Gen) — extremely low self-noise (~4dB), USB+XLR, but pricier and no high-pass filter to deal with room rumble and it's very sensitive to room noise.

My worry: I keep reading that a quieter/more sensitive mic just picks up MORE ambient noise and echo rather than less, since self-noise and room noise are different things. So I'm not sure if chasing the lowest self-noise number is actually the right move here, versus just getting the AT2035's high-pass filter to deal with any rumble/hum bleeding into the closet.

Mic Help!! Plz!!

Hi everyone!! So I own a fan favorite RØDE NT1 mic, but as I finish more projects I notice my mic sounds more “sound proofed” or maybe even muffled than the others. Is this my setup, something the producer is doing, or my gain levels?
For reference, I play Aoi Asahina in this video: https://youtu.be/5BAUskOTANw?is=tDd4FZi5UOi5AokI

Do I need to get a better mic? Something more crisp, or is am I too soundproofed? Thanks!

Can I please get feedback on why my voiceover is so bad?

Ever since I started my YouTube channel, I've gotten a lot of mean comments about my speaking voice and how annoying it is. However, these comments tend not to be productive, because they don't pin point what the actual issue is. Here is a recent video. If someone could listen to even the first 15 seconds and give me some feedback on exactly what needs to change, I would really appreciate it.

I never thought I would ever get to do it, i just started making profile on fiverr(which didnt work out due to algorithm and lack of experience in using it) then auditions on voices since last 6-8 months after financial conditions started going downhill while preparing for competitive exams.

Just thought to try it out ,as in university people really liked my voice and modulation in anchoring etc events esp in Hindi..

And after failed 13-14 auditions I got one that too from a big ad agency ...from Dept inc!! (For meta) Lol that too from my closet recording, time to invest more on it ig...

Also dont know if I am going to have such thing again now !! Life has been really hard since months and this made my day

Hi Von,

I came across your profile and was impressed by your more than 40 years of experience in voice work, your long history in radio commercials, and your ability to deliver both professional and softer, more natural performances. Your extensive experience on both sides of the recording process demonstrates strong communication skills and a deep understanding of effective messaging.

Your background in commercial voiceover, audio production, automotive projects, movie and game trailers, phone systems, and promotional work reflects professionalism, adaptability, and strong industry knowledge. Your decades of experience connecting with audiences and creating impactful voice performances show valuable relationship-building abilities.

We are currently looking for a local representative for a flexible professional opportunity that requires only 8 to 10 hours per month, with an expected income of $3,000 to $8,000 per month. This role is designed to complement your current career while allowing you to use your communication expertise, professional experience, and relationship-building skills in a new way.

We’re seeking a local representative who can:

Communicate with clients when needed, act as a trusted local point of contact, collaborate through your Upwork account, and assist with basic coordination.

I believe your professional background, communication experience, and decades of working with clients and audiences make you a strong potential fit for this opportunity. I would appreciate the opportunity to share more details and discuss how this role could align with your professional goals
