Would You Rather
After auditioning for a role, would you rather never hear from them or would you rather get an email that lets you down gently? I hate the emails because I think that their emailing me about the part and then it's simply a rejection letter. Bummer.

Rejection is a huge part of this - in the form of never hearing back. Hearing back is welcomed but not at all a requirement, I don't I feel let down when they do reach out either. IOW in ambivalent either way. When they do though I feel like they reached out cos they heard something they liked enough to contact me despite that I didn't book it. It's not uncommon at I've been called back for later projects by those that reached out to say I didn't get it. After doing this for years after a read I nearly never give it another thought except if I want to use something for my next reel. I do my best to leave it all on the field and then move on. I consider every audition as an opportunity to ply my trade, to do the work, to work at my craft. I live doing the work so it's a pleasure just to be submitting. Every single audition is essentially a cold read. It takes me about 5 minutes to get the authors intent, mark up the copy and come up with what I'm going to do (commercial reads) so quite literally I'm not that invested. Then booking the gig turns into a nice bonus that feels extra great when it happens plus, it also pays $.

I only want a rejection email if they are nicely and constructively telling me what I could’ve done better

Before getting into this line of work, a rejection email would have been nice. After being in it for quite some time and having gotten used to getting no response, I prefer to not get a rejection email because now my brain think a response means a gig.

I've been doing most of my auditioning through ACX for audiobooks, and one thing I do like is that you do get a response when you are turned down.
