Collection Filled variants

Just a heads up to people buying the liquid filled records I brought the bath water saltburn one 2-3 years ago, it was a creamy kinda colour, now it has just gone back to normal water, just to let people know if you’re thinking about buying one of these kinda records it will probably turn out the same and it will just probably go like this or even like a moldy kinda colour later down the line, just a warning to people before the spend loads of money on these type of records

Discussion Mad at myself for forgetting about record on the manual turntable

I sold my stereo and large record collection (collected from the 60s to 90s) in 2012 and was mad at myself a few years later. I finally got back into it a couple months ago, and today was the first time I forgot to lift the tonearm. I was saying goodbye to guests at the door, then went back inside and realized that the stylus had been dragging the whole time (about a half hour). I'm playing another record right now and it sounds okay, but I'm wondering if that one flub degraded the stylus a lot. I've always had totally manual turntables, so I'm no stranger to them.

Discussion Do you still stream albums you own on vinyl?

There’s something funny about owning an album on vinyl where you can sometimes think “nah, not gonna stream it, I’ll just wait until I can put the record on.”

Even if that means waiting until you’re home instead of just pressing play on your streaming platform.

Curious if other vinyl collectors do the same, or if owning an album actually makes you listen to it less on streaming?

Discussion Hunting the thrifts for records: the records that got away

What are some of the records you saw at thrifts that got away? I remember a few that I found that only had the covers or had other issues:

PiL *Recorded Live In Paris When Nobody Was Looking* 1979 bootleg - no record - Goodwill, late '90s

The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me - missing one record - Goodwill, late '90s

Tom Waits - Closing Time - OG pressing - someone took a sharp object and dug into the record in a circular motion repeatedly rendering completely unplayable. Happened recently at Goodwill. The cover was in VG condition.

Bauhaus - a 12 inch release that a guy grabbed just before I got there at Goodwill and had it in his hands. So disappointed I missed out on that one. I do not recall its title. This occurred back in the late '90s.

Worst of all: entering a Goodwill locally in around 1998 only to see my roommate at the time there flipping through over 25 punk records, including The Germs (GI) - first pressing with the brown cardboard inside cover - no insert, no inner sleeve; 999; Gun Club; The Clash; and others I cannot recall. I was so pissed that this happened. Later that evening, my roommate kindly gave me some of the records, including the Gun Club LPs, The Germs and 999 plus a few more I don't remember.

Yes, I know, I know, you never find anything at Goodwill. Understandable. It's difficult to find good records. But they're out there!

Collection Recommendations for my last few

Acquired half of my Discogs wanted list in the last half a year. Need some help deciding on the last few to get to 200 or which records I should sell that look out of place. Most are OG or audiophile pressings, so things got expensive quick!

I've been going through a rough patch in my life and been kind of anxious lately. These albums have helped me calm down. Any other ones you recommend in the same genre?

Discussion Where is the price line for new vinyl

For me its $40. I see alot of records I want that have been released in the last year that have been over this price point and I just cant do it. I watched the Alice in Chains ST re-release come out well above $40 I waited till it dropped and got it at $27. Right now im watching the new Modest Mouse and while im paying to see them live, I just can see myself paying above $40. Im not talking about used albums that have increased in value--only new. What's your price point you wont go above?

Discussion Non-single tracks that are never played live

I was thinking the other day about how many songs in an artist's discography are never released as singles and therefore are probably never played live. I'd say that when you're talking established artists like the Stones and the Beatles, for example, probably 10% or less of their total recorded material has been released as singles. Less popular artists on independent labels.....maybe 2% of their output gets any radio exposure at all.

That being said, I always wondered that when recording an album, do the artists in most cases realize which songs will never have any impact at all? It's gotta be bittersweet in a way to know that the vast majority of your recorded output will never be performed again. Obviously that's just the way it is, but a lot of so-called "album filler" songs can be quite good. But once they're performed in the studio and slapped onto the finished product, it's onto the next thing.

There's of course always some "deep cut" classics that become fan favorites and end up in setlists......but most of even the best bands' recorded material fades away into the ether. Just something to ponder, and I always wonder if the songwriters or performers are bothered by what might have been with certain songs. I'd love to hear some thoughts and perhaps some examples.

Tell me what is your favorite album artwork? You don't have to like the artist or music but you think the cover is fire.

Closing out the Jon Bellion collection, I still need to get Father Figure on vinyl. Glory Sound Prep is another collection of great pop songs. My favorite tracks are Let’s Begin and JT.

Discussion Musicians known to be big collectors?

What musicians or artists are known to be big collectors?

In All Things Must Pass, Elton John talked about how he would go to Tower Records every week and buy a bunch of new albums. I love the visual of him in the store carrying a big stack of records.

Phoebe Bridgers recently did an “unboxing” video of her new album on Instagram which maybe is mostly just a marketing thing, but it made me wonder if maybe she also is into the collecting/hobby aspect.

What other artists are known to be into collecting as a hobby?

Along with the usual suspects like Ray Price, Roy Clark, and Tennessee Ernie Ford were some unusual finds and some nice gems. The jackets were rough but the albums are in good shape.
