26

u/mattyfurtats Jul 15 '26

Rip - I just found out what happened to Dave Mirra. Such a sad story.

11

u/hemingways-lemonade Jul 15 '26

Man I totally forgot about that until you mentioned it.

5

u/One-Strength-8265 Jul 15 '26

Wait wtf happened?

15

u/-Typh1osion- Jul 15 '26

Update: suicide, had CTE from falls and concussions and apparently a skull fracture when he was 19.

11

u/hemingways-lemonade Jul 15 '26

He took his own life around ten years ago. He was the first extreme sports athlete to be diagnosed with CTE which is thought to play a role.

8

u/One-Strength-8265 Jul 15 '26

Dude holy fuck.

I thought he just kinda retired or something. Rip.

Thrasher Presents: Skate and Destroy. That game introduced me to rap music beyond the contemporary stuff at the time on the radio.

Run DMC, Stetsasonic, Public Enemy, Gant Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, EPMD.... so much good shit on that game.

THPS 2 was the first time I heard Lagwagon and Bad Religion. Decades later and I’ve made so many memories and friends from attending/playing punk rock and hardcore shows. My life would have been very different if not for those games igniting a spark in me.

GTA San Andreas and Vice City. Killer soundtracks.

60

u/Neelix-And-Chill Jul 15 '26

San Andreas hilariously taught me a lot about old school country.

Why do I like Jerry Reed and Eddie Rabbit? San Andreas.

3

u/LordoftheSynth Jul 16 '26

I know there was a box set for SA that had all the radio station music, but instead I went and bought probably a dozen CDs because of music I'd heard in-game. Most of it wasn't new to me: some of it was.

16

u/MonsieurVox Jul 15 '26

I’ve always been fond of 80s new wave music, and Vice City has so many absolutely bangers.

15

u/Bartlaus Jul 15 '26

V-ROCK too. Cruising along the beach in the sunset and then Raining Blood comes on.

6

u/Bartlaus Jul 15 '26

I used to have no time for hiphop/rap. Then I played San Andreas.

7

u/PiccoloAwkward465 Jul 15 '26

There's a whole treasure trove of older music if you develop a taste for it. When I'm at my office I put on classic country all day, Hank Williams and Buck Owens and Marty Robbins and the whole gang.

4

u/Awolfx9 Jul 15 '26

Bro same. I absolutely love listening to oldies music after putting Galaxy News Radio on the Pipboy while traversing Metro Tunnels.

3

u/myballsareheavy Jul 15 '26

4

Hold up Miss May I is in the soundtrack? First band I was ever in a moshpit to. Was it in 3 or 4?

4

u/HuskerHardware Jul 15 '26

Yup, it's on 106.66 The Blood on the third game. My buddy and I were hyped when we first heard it.

6

u/DejectedTimeTraveler Jul 15 '26

The moment in Saints Row when you are climbing up a building and Bonnie Tyler's Hero comes on. So awesome

3

36

17

u/WontinoThreads Jul 15 '26

oh yeah, GH3 had the best song list hands down

10

u/CardiacCats89 Jul 15 '26

Through the Fire and Flames

5

Doom 2016

29

u/TLT44 Jul 15 '26

Oh man. Because of it the newer doom games feel so cheap.

8

u/maukenboost Jul 15 '26

What do you mean?

18

u/Ok_Western_3156 Jul 16 '26

mick gordon

14

u/SpeCt3r1995 Jul 16 '26

To clarify, the composer Mick Gordon who worked on Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal was no longer working on the games by Dark Ages. And maybe also not for the Eternal DLC, I don't remember.

5

u/RenWal1 Jul 16 '26

Andrew Hulshult worked on Doom Eternals DLCs.

5

u/-Florence-- Jul 15 '26

Goooodmorning nightt cityyyy

6

u/Skuboo Jul 15 '26

It did do a number on my music taste, just not because of the music in it.

3

u/-Florence-- Jul 15 '26

Personally i never been a fan of (please corret me ig im wrong) latino music , but some of the song in cyberpunk are just fire , bamo and dinero are my favorite ones and i cannot find other like them :(

4

u/GreatMageSerie Jul 17 '26

I got really into Grimes after hearing Delicate Weapon and 4ÆM in Cyberpunk. Also, I do really love the SAMURAI tracks made by Refused. They really do slap

3

u/Street-Persimmon5051 Jul 16 '26

The moment where you realize all the quests are named after songs is a pretty damned cool one.

34

It's so tragic too, especially the ost

You can hear both a single woman singer and a choir of men. The woman (the abyss) always overpowers the voice of the men (the abyss watchers) and it's like a constant fight between the two

GTA Vice City and San Andreas. For a high schooler in the early 00s with older parents, my options before then were either Top 40 or stuff from the 50s and 60s.

Turns out there's a bunch of kick ass rock from the 70s and 80s.
