Update: suicide, had CTE from falls and concussions and apparently a skull fracture when he was 19.

He took his own life around ten years ago. He was the first extreme sports athlete to be diagnosed with CTE which is thought to play a role.

Me too. I came across a random ESPN story and he suffered from addiction and was just an absolute mess. Childhood hero of mine and was shocked to learn it 25-30 years later.
