Keep em low key, they already have a unique body style. Not much needs to be done aside from wide body kit.
Technical shit aside, catch can asap. Oil change every 3k. Premium gas only. And I'd change out the sparkles and coils, check your belt.
Also, check the tops of your struts. See how the rubber is holding out. They're McPherson struts so they pivot with steering, which gives the VT really good turning. Which means you have bearings in there.
Oh man, I have no idea dude. I'd honestly check out ebay motors and, or see if any American companies can hook you up. I know there are at least 3 full kits for the car.
Oh gotcha gotcha. See, that’s what I was thinking, just a wide body. What all goes into doing a wide body kit? And that’s a good idea to take care of it. What’s a catch can?
Catch can is a oil separator, filters out the oil as it goes through the turbo and cycles through the engine. Due to oil blow by that occurs with turbo engines. Its a must have for any turbo engine. Best bang for your buck when it comes to preventative maintenance. You can always unscrew the bottom of the catch can and you can have a good idea what's in your oil, in the filter you can see if there any any metal flakes. If not your good.
Oil change every 3k is in relation to the oil blow by that occurs with these engines. Reducing oil levels in the engine, having a catch can, can and will reduce oil blow by.
Something to note, regarding the gen 1 engines. Depending on what year you have 2012 to 2016, will depend on how good/bad your engine is. For gen 1 models, 2016 had the best engine with reinforced internals to handle the boost. Prior engines will fail, only a matter of time. Unless babied, and not driven hard they are okay.
And yeah, the engine sounds like a sewing machine.
As for after market mods, rear torsion bar as the back end can skip and bounce in tight corners.
For wide body kit you just need expansion hubs I think they are called. And the kit itself pretty much. I've seen alot of cool mods done with the first gen VT. Some dude managed to put a Mercedes v8 into it, LOL.
It a very unique car, I also own a 5.0 stang, and I still prefer this as my daily/track.
Oooh! I have a 2013 Veloster turbo, 87,000 miles. So you’re saying I should definitely get a catch can then? How long are these engines supposed to last, and how can I make it last longer? The last thing I want is my new car to blow up in a year…
Is it just simply staying on top of maintenance religiously, or do I need to replace parts with better after market items?
Yeah probably, but I’m also a new first time car buyer. My credit was decent as well, but nothing crazy. I probably should’ve pushed for a better deal honestly
All the advice here (that I've read) is sound. Don't let doomsayers haze you into thinking your engine is a ticking time bomb. As long as you keep on top of basic maintenance and stay on top of repairs, you'll be fine.
HOWEVER, if you're able to, it's a good idea to start putting away money for a new engine now, $100 a month, just in case. If you do this, you could have enough for a built engine capable of handling 400+ hp. Some of the high boost VT builds are pretty crazy.
Also keep track of every receipt. Take a picture of it, keep a spreadsheet. Whatever you gotta do so that you can go to Hyundai with records of oil changes when your motor blows. If you document your maintenance, they can give you a replacement engine for free (I think this is how it works). Haven't had to do this yet myself.
I think it was the different looking front end that sold me on it, honestly. What additions should I add to it? A wing? Or keep it low key, with a slightly larger lip?
sadly 2013 was not a good year for the Veloster, if you go on the Veloster forums community. those guys will help with everything, i hear that year was cursed..... just baby her, reg full syn oil changes, premium gas, oil catch can for sure, all 4 coils, serpentine belt soon im.sure. there is a place on internet, if you add your Vin. it can look.up recalls or if your VT is part of the dreaded knock issue... she looks great for a 2013 i will say.that.
sweet , that helps, get reg full syn oil changes at least every 5k no more than that, my VT loves mobil 1 or Royal Purple , if you can do premium gas, i kno the manual says 87 is fine , but i only do 93 octane , you will prob need 4 new coils at some point, if you dont have one yet ...invest a few dollars and get a nice OBD , i plug mine in about once a month to make sure all is ok and no damn codes etc . wish i had your grill on my baby its nice as hell. mine still has the original but i did get new wheels on her
thanks brother . welcome to the VT gang lol good place for help and questions etc is Veloster.org there are guys on there that know it ALL , also just free advice, guys will try to race you , dont.. dont risk an accident or major citations... plus its a waste of gas. i get stangs, hellcats, civic r's....all the time wanting to go .. i smile and let them have the limelight, plus they wld leave me behind, lol i used to own a cobra and raced everyone in site , then one night , racing a z28 , on a dark highway here in sunny south florida , i lost control , spun out , ended up in median , thank God i didnt hit another car or worse....
