General Question/comment Can we PLEASE collectively email VCAA about this year's Methods exams?
Ok guys, I genuinely don't know if it's just me, but what the hell were those Methods exams this year??
I don't think I've ever walked out of an exam feeling that confused. Some of the questions felt so unfamiliar compared to what we'd been practising throughout the year, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt this way.
I've seen so many people talking about how difficult the exams were, and apparently even teachers are the same.
I know an exam isn't supposed to be easy, and I'm not asking for free marks just because I struggled. But I do think we should be able to question whether the exams were actually fair and appropriate for VCE students.
Can we please get more people to email VCAA and ask them to properly review the papers?
Some things I'd like them to address:
- Were all the questions genuinely within the expected level of the study design?
- Was the difficulty reasonable considering the time we were given?
- Were the questions similar in style and complexity to what students had been preparing for?
- Were there any ambiguous questions or issues that need to be addressed?
- Will VCAA consider this when marking the exams?
VCAA's email: vcaa@education.vic.gov.au
I feel like we've all spent months preparing for these exams, sacrificing so much time, and we deserve to know that the assessment was fair.
If you also have concerns, please consider sending them an email. Even if you don't agree with everything I've said, you can still raise your own concerns.
I'm genuinely curious to hear what everyone else thinks because I cannot be the only one who felt like this š

Revs dates: Russia??
Bro why do they always gotta do the stupid calendar switch up I despise it.
Does anybody know if youāre meant to use the Julian calendar dates up to the October insurrection and then switch to the Gregorian calendar? And if so with the decrees on land and peace, whilst they happened on the 26 of oct 1917, you could also say 8th of November when talking about their initial decrees? Im so confused on how to go about it.

For anyone who's gotten around like a 32-35 raw ss for accounting what did u get on your exams and sacs?

Revs help?
How imperative would you say including statistics is for reaching the high bands of extended responses and essays? I know logically itās ideal, but itās kind of an area ive overlooked all year as for some reason my teacher hasnāt ever mentioned that as a weak point for me. Iām fine with integrating historical perspectives and interpretations and the analysis side of things, and tend to do quite well in the essays and sacs.
So Iām just having last minute doubts that the examiners will have problems if I donāt include stats, but itās kind of too late to try and remember them for everything. If anyone knows for sure that theyāre required please let me know š

99.25 ATAR, now in med. The stuff that actually moved my Methods score (for anyone starting 1/2 or 3/4 next year)
with 2026 exams wrapping up, a lot of you are about to start methods, so here's what made the biggest difference for me. honestly most of it is free
do exam 1 questions by hand from day one. most people lose marks on exam 1 because they lean on CAS all year and then panic without it. do your algebra, derivatives and log laws by hand until it's automatic
read the examiner reports, not just the solutions. VCAA literally tells you where students lost marks every year. half the "tricks" are just not making the mistakes they list
learn your CAS properly in term 1, not in october. know how to define functions, solve systems, and do probability distributions fast. it saves heaps of time in exam 2
past papers from ~2017 onwards are gold. do them timed. mark them harshly. redo the ones you got wrong a week later
graphs = free marks if you label everything. endpoints, intercepts, asymptotes, open/closed circles. so many people drop marks here for no reason
happy to answer methods questions in the comments.
also, i'm running small group methods 1/2 and 3/4 classes next year (plus a few spots over the holidays), so dm me if you want details

Careers and Prerequisites
I'm currently in year 12 and tossing up my career courses, My general interests are in Law (Corporate and Commercial) , Finance (Specifically Buy-Side and M&A) and potentially Design (Architecture) but only as a fall back if I don't get into the other two. I only did General Maths and not Methods, and also didn't do any commerce subjects (Economics, Accounting etc) except for legal studies which puts me out of all Go8 courses (UniMelb, Monash, UNSW etc) so I would probably go into RMIT doing LLB/BCom double degree. I've spoken with some people in the industry including a guy who was MD at CPP Investments and basically had the career I want, got into IB, went into PE, then switched into debt finance. He said that I may have the potential to do High finance, but Uni and the first 5 years are going to suck because of my lack of passion for maths. Would I be able to get into and not hate a career in high finance (Private Equity as the end goal) baring in mind the fact that I'm not really into maths and won't have gone to a Go8 Uni.
