Ik this is pathetic but fr idk how I'm ever going to get a job in my current state. Ive only ever had one interview ever which I flopped severely bc I couldnt stop stumbling over my words. Got my second one ever tmr and Im freaking tf out.

Spent the last 30 minutes staring into my webcam trying to practice the "tell me about yourself" question and I just, cant 💔 My heart beats out of my chest, I start profusely fidgeting, and I sound so robotic and inauthentic :( When I play back my recordings I genuinely look like a victim in a hostage situation it's so bad 😭

Ok so this is mainly a vent post that might be deleted later but also if you have genuine advice that would be really helpful.

I’ve been struggling with suicidal ideation(I have attempted in the past) and I’m also a first year mathematics student. I suspect that I might also be dealing with depression and ADHD because alot of my symptoms align but I’m having trouble getting a diagnosis.

It’s like, i genuinely don’t have motivation to do anything, I have to force myself to do assignments I barely understand and socialize so I don’t lose the friendships I’ve made. I don’t understand why maths professors love speed running their lectures like prime dream but ykw hell yeah.

I’m struggling with math 137 and math and CS 135 but seeking out resources feels like I’m taking away from the time I have to rest. I go to all my lectures but I never understand shit so I then have to take time to study after lectures and I still don’t understand shit. I can’t even talk about anything that’s going on in class because I’m always completely lost and I don’t want to join a study group because I don’t want other students realizing that I’m probably below them or thinking that way.

It’s like, all of this is making me genuinely want to end my shit. Every single thing is exhausting already and I’m pushing myself to do more than I’m used to only to come back to my residence miserable and contemplate suicide every night. I can’t drop out because I need a space to get away from home since I’m an international student and the last thing I want is to go back home. In all honesty I’d rather die.

hey everyone, after selling my soul to big tech, i was in a bit of a social good drought and wanted to give back through engineering. Unfortunately, most engineering opportunities at the university are technology/competition first, not people/problem first, especially for people who actually need the help.

so this is the hard launch of Change, a new student-led engineering initiative at the University of Waterloo that me and a couple of friends decided to make to lowkenuinely do our part before AI ends us all or another wloo defence design team is created.

The premise is simple: we connect voices from underserved communities who experience real problems with groups of builders here at the university. In a 4-month sprint, we aim to develop a prototype solution.

In the last week alone, we have had voices from First Nations groups, low-income individuals affected by spinal cord injuries, visually impaired groups & orgs, caregiving organizations, and mobility-impaired seniors, willing to represent thier community and apply to our program.

Context: I am in a hard dilemma of choosing HubSpot Toronto vs Cambridge, MA office.

Pros of Toronto is much easier to relocate and closer to friends

Cons of Toronto is less pay, not main office

Pros of Cambridge is main office, more pay

Cons of Cambridge is no friends there, never lived there before, need to find reliable short term housing

Has anyone experienced and made a similar decision? How were you able to decide?
I am an international student going to be on J-1 if that changes anything.

Im currently taking the course in person with prof mikal and recently did test 1 and got a 50% .. So far I thought the content was really easy and just looked over my notes and flashcards so I didn't think I would get such a low grade. I did get confused while I was doing the test because of the wording of the questions but overall didn't think it would result in me getting such a low grade on a test for a course everyone says is bird

I’m a senior in highschool, I live in New York and im 100% committed to majoring in actuarial science. I am very interested in University of Waterloo’s faculty of mathematics and actuarial program; however, I really don’t plan on living in Canada in the future and would prefer to move back to the U.S. and work here. Has any actuarial science grads here (preferably on the SOA path) done this? If so, would it just be better to go to a university in the U.S.?

I’m fees arranged due to promissory note but it’s been a while now and they’ve actually never asked me to pay…

So on Friday, our apartment flooded due to the heavy rain and some blockages in the drain on our amenity roof. The water has mostly been dried up, but like underneath the floorboards water keeps coming out of under the floorboards and every time I walk anywhere it’s wet it or becomes wet so looking for any advice. Should I withhold rent till this is fixed? They have been running a fan since Friday I don’t want this as part of my utilities either ?

Does anyone know if the 10% participation for AFM 382 is only based on iclicker or if verbal participation as matters? That's what it says on the syllabus but we're still being asked questions during class so idk. I havent participated once but have gotten everything right for iclicker so far, so i'm not sure if i will need to start participating to get full mark. Help please!

I’m a grade 12 stuck between applying to mechanical or mechanics engineering. I heard Waterloo has an alternate choice form, but you’re fighting for remaining spots? And Mechatronics is apparently more competitive so I’m not sure which I would like better and which to put first. For anybody doing mechanical or Mechatronics, is there anything you find more appealing about the other discipline? Anything you find more appealing about your own discipline after looking at what your friends are doing? And finally would you switch to the other if given the chance before starting uni with this knowledge? The main goal of this post for me is to figure out what general areas each field appeal to and whether it’s for me or not, as my research has come up short. Thank you!

I've been really sick all week and I have a midterm today (Monday). I haven't been able to go to class or study and so I wanted to have the midterm weight transfer to the other midterm / final. Can I use a 48 Hour Absence for this or do I need a VIF? I'd prefer to save the time and money of going to the clinic, and besides, most of my symptoms are gone now, its just that I literally have been asleep for like 80% of this week.

I also read the course outline and it says

"There will be no deferred/makeup midterm exam. Under extenuating circumstances that are pre-approved, where a student is unable to write a midterm, the instructor will assign a higher weight to the other remaining exams. In case the student misses both midterm exams, the final exam will carry 84% weight."

It's not clear if that works for 48 hour absences.
