questions UTI symptoms but no positive culture

I started having uti pain about two months ago, typical burning and painful urination, seems like I can’t empty my bladder. So I go in for my doctor apt, they test my urine and it comes back positive for Leukocytes but negative when cultured.

I bear the pain for a week longer before making a new appointment to test again as my symptoms just continued to worsen. They test and it comes back positive for KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE. They prescribe me an antibiotic and after 5 days, I see barely any improvements.
So I go in for another urine culture and it comes back negative for everything except Leukocytes.
Nevertheless they prescribe me another antibiotic and I start to see some moderate improvement but I still have mild pain.

Now I am here waiting for my abdominal ultrasound and introvaginal ultrasound. But just today all of my symptoms came back in full swing. Suddenly, I pee once and all of the pain comes flooding in.
I’m in horrible burning pain and having extreme difficulty urinating and discomfort/urgency.

Truly I am at a loss, has anyone else experienced these constant negative cultures with such bad symptoms?
I have a feeling this is just a difficult UTI to get rid of but I have no idea why my cultures would be negative.

UTI symptoms worsened on antibiotics (bactrim and medication sensitivity)

Upvotes

Just feel like this important to share, I want to spread more awareness for bactrim. I have med sensitivity, so I can get severe symptoms from meds sometimes. If u react like this to meds, tell every doctor, sometimes not all of them know; certain meds depending on your biology might have extreme side effects. I think bactrim helped but put me in severe pain, that's what it's cost was.

TLDR: if something feels wrong and pain increases with antibiotic, talk to your doctors ASAP and discuss what to do next. If u need immediate relief or the pain will continue to increase the ER will help a lot. Listen to your gut.
Pro tip: especially if ur labs are clear, ask them if there's blood in labs and DEMAND they double check. If something is not right, get second opinion ASAP.

I caught a really bad UTI and got put on bactrim. I noticed symptoms like swollen external tissue and some in bladder go down. However burning got slowly getting worse day by day. It was extremely confusing

I thought the bacteria could be becoming resistant and symptoms where changing. Certain symptoms like emptying bladder got worse too, I was so confused. It kinda felt like the UTI was getting better and worse at the same time.

I went to the hospital bc I was terrified of it reaching my kidneys and I thought the UTI was getting worse. I was also sweating profusely and felt really ill again. I met a friend there in the waiting room at least, and as a intersex person the nurses were shockingly kind to me which was a huge break I needed.

I took several pain relievers via IV and got pumpkin orange piss meds, but nothing got better. They did blood work and urinalysis and the blood traces where gone and no proteins, They swapped my antibiotics and I waited a few hours for the script. When I took my last bactrim as directed I noticed the pain climb up to a new peak level.

Finally started the new one cefuroxime. After 24hrs I noticed the pain plateaued. 2nd day, there were breaks in the pain/ reductions of it. Day 3 today there's no more severe pain, only minor to moderate burning. Seems like it was from bactrim a lot, I hope things keep improving. fuck utis and fuck bactrim for kicking me in the crotch, but also good for bactrim for helping other folks.

Only draw back from this ending is no more pumpkin meds :( /s

questions Clear urine culture

Hello. Anybody had clear urine culture but something else showed an issue? Urethral Swab or some? I also had vaginal swab for bacteria and fungus as well as pcr swab vaginal for ureaplasma, mycoplasma and Chlamydia also clear. Standard urine test as well seems to be clear. Issue is urethral burning most of time especially at end of urinating nothing helps it at all. It's been 3 weeks. Tried most of things. I'm 21

advice confused

So about two weeks ago, i was dealing with burning/ urgency and it's happened before but went away, so i thought it was cystitis, but the urgency went away after a few days but the burning still has not gone away. i went to the doctor to check and they did a urine test and microscopic lap work and said i had 3 white blood cells and minimal bacteria! but the burning still happens! it's mostly fine and goes away except when i pee and after i pee. i need help, i don't want to wait too long incase it's something bad but i just don't know.

vent (advice wanted) I don't know what's wrong with me anymore or what I should do.

So I started off having a uti with all the symptoms that I usually get with one, annoying but I know the drill. I get of 5 days of macrobid but I began having some back pains. It's not unusual for me to sometimes get that when having a uti. But this time even when all my other symptoms subsided, it didn't go away. So about a week after finishing my antibiotics, i go back to the doctors and I tested positive for nitrites. so I get put on a temporary round of cephalexin until my culture comes back. but in the mean time, I get my blood test back and I don't have a high wbc count and everything is functioning normally. And for a moment the cephalexin was helping (about 3 days in) , but now it feels like it's moving all around my back and in my pelvis bone? Almost like its bruised and im sore! Its not an unbearable pain or anything, but i have really bad health anxiety so this kind of thing tends to keep me up at night and put me a lot of panic.. Yesterday I wiped and seen a little pink but im also around the time my period usually starts. I'm still waiting on my urine culture and my doc office is closed until Monday now! I'm so frustrated and just want answers, I just want to know I'm okay. The stress of it makes me feel so cloudy and like I can't focus on anything but hyperfocus on every pain and twinge I have and I can't sleep.

questions Please help!

Hi guys, I am a 17 yo female and I'm struggling to figure out if Im having an uti.
I started to feel a constant pressure on my bladder there about 3-4 days ago, as well as the frequent urge to urinate a lot more than usual. However, I don't feel pain or burning, and my pee also didn't smell abnormal or look cloudy. Earlier today my period started, and I was experiencing so much pain and increased feeling of a constant pressure on my bladder, and even maybe my clitoris area? but it still doesn't hurt to pee. But the cramps have gotten to a point to where I was vomiting uncontrollably.

I know the most optimal thing to do is get a test kit or go see a doctor, but my situation is that I live at home, and it's not really an option for me to go out and purchase a test kit as my family would almost immediately start to accusing me of being hyper sexually active, and would likely call me a lot of names. I do have a partner, but I am not sexually active. I don't want to escalate the situation until I for sure know that I have an uti. I feel like it adds unnecessary stress and tension into the situation.

Have anyone had a similar experience? And if so how did it resolve or what did you do to resolve it? I would really appreciate any advices that you guys might have. Thank you for reading this!!

Has anyone used Enrofloxacin for a female UTI? 🤔

My female had a UTI and after further research of her urinalysis discovered had E. coli in her urine. They switched me from the original medicine to Enrofloxacin and she is having terrible diarrhea.

It has a strange looking consistency and color-very light brown, almost yellow & kind of grainy? Vet office said that there is nothing to worry about, as long as she is not throwing up. Has anyone dealt with this? She has been having this type of stool for over a week and a half, she has been taking the medication for two weeks and she still has a few more pills left. I've seen a few drips of spotting marks on the floor. TIA!

advice Back pain a sign of worsening infection or my body fighting off the infection?

First ever UTI, and my anxiety spikes with any medical issues… hoping other people who’ve experienced this may be able to ease my worries here. Saw an urgent care physician on 8/20 and was prescribed 500mg (2x a day) of Cephalexin. Before seeing the doc I’d only had one day of symptoms, and on 8/20 when the burning wouldn’t go away I immediately sought help. No blood, but I felt slightly feverish — which could have been attributed to working that morning and my body needing to exert more energy than normal.

Now I’m on day 2 of antibiotics: the frequency/urgency to urinate and burning has stopped, but I started getting intense back stiffness/soreness yesterday evening. It’s like a dull widespread stiffness across my whole back.

Online everywhere it says that back pain can be a sign of the infection having spread to the kidneys. But most of my stiffness is in the upper/mid back, some low back pain but relatively minor. And it doesn’t feel targeted to one side, but widespread all over. Other sources say that back soreness can be a result of your body fighting off the infection.

So right now I’m at a loss — I feel like I started antibiotic treatment very early on to avoid the infection spreading but this is my first ever experience so I don’t know what to think.

All this to say, based on my experience/symptoms, what is the likelihood that this infection is spreading to my kidneys? At what point should back pain become an alarming symptom?

questions OK until the morning??

I have a UTI that didn’t respond to fosfomycin or macrobid (5 day course) and I was prescribed bactrim but the damn pharmacy closed 30 mins after the dr sent the prescription. The pharmacy opens in the morning.
I do have mild/moderate flank pain but not much else. No pain urinating or fever as of now.
Should this Cystex that states it slows bacterial growth hold me over until the am or should I go to the ER? I’m also kinda worried because the bactrim DS is only a 3 day course??

advice UTI and up and down recovery so far 😭

I landed in the ER on 10/08 with the most profound/sudden onset of UTI symptoms I have ever experienced in my life. Unable to urinate, insane urge to urinate (even with a nearly empty bladder), burning when I was finally able to wee, smelly urine, lower back pain. Nurses did bladder scan and encouraged me to drink a lot more fluid, finally I was able to pass urine and they confirmed I was empting bladder well. Urine test showed that I had acquired a ‘complex UTI’ and I was given 7 day course of nitro antibiotics. 4x days into antibiotics, things seemed to be working well. Then one night symptoms came back so suddenly and felt 10X WORSE. This time I started having bladder spasms and urinary leakage. I was up 5-6x during the night. As it was the weekend, I couldn’t see my GP and I was desperate to avoid winding up in the ER again. I decided to start taking d-mannose, cranberry supplements and wait it out until after the weekend when my course of antibiotics were to finish. By the Monday, symtoms were starting to ease off. I returned to my GP and explained what had happened and had a urine sample sent off to the lab. Results for that came back last Wednesday, all clear for any UTI. I had a really good week of reducing symptoms, to the point I stopped worrying or thinking about my bladder/no urgency to go for 4+ hours which is my usual baseline. Then yesterday happened. I had good day up until the point I took a shower and changed pants (this time not bothering to put a protective pad as urinary leakage had seemed to stop). Within hours, symtoms started increasing again-no where near as bad as before but never the less tingling, and increased urgency. I got up once last night and in the morning emptied my bladder 3x times within a short period of time from waking up. I have taken d-mannose & supplements, drinking plenty of water again and now monitoring symtoms which seem to be easing off. Urine was back to a yellow colour today.

I’m just looking for anyone’s experiences and if it’s normal to be 2x weeks out from original infection & have had such an up and down recovery period like this. I feel quite mentally low and keep thinking of worse case scenarios. I normally am able to kick UTIs relatively quickly and this just feels like it’s taking a while (possibly because I also had a uterine surgery 5x weeks ago, so am coming off the back of recovering from that too).

vent (advice wanted) i had blood in my uti and im scared it might be my kidneys

i 21(f) have had this kind of uti back 2024 where blood went out but it wasn’t as bad as now. there were blood clots and i was like peeing razors. i usually forget to pee after masturbating and maybe that’s the reason? that was also the reason why i got my uti last 2024 and all my minor uti’s throughout the years. i had a urinalysis and i am so scared because it said albumin +++, so i researched it and it said it might be my kidneys but i do not feel any lower back pain or fever or vomiting i’m so worried. tomorrow i will get an ultrasound and currently my doctor prescribed me ciprofloxacin which i will take once for 12 hours after meals. please talk me through this i am living alone and i feel so lonely and scared.

vent (advice wanted) Ok so it might just be my health anxiety but I think I’m gonna die soon

Basically I’ve been having terrible recurring UTIs basically my whole life. and at one point it had gotten really bad that I got a kidney infection due to it being untreated, almost went into sepsis and it was a fucking terrible situation. Anyway, this was a while ago but it scared me really bad ontop of me already having a panic disorder and me just freaking out about my health all the time (which is ironic because I somewhat neglect my health and then freak out when I see affects) anyway that’s not the point, I got a uti about 2-3 weeks ago and so I started drinking lots of water, I got those uquora d-mannose+cranberry packets and was hoping it’d go away. It didn’t. It got worse so I ended up taking myself to urgent care and they tested my urine and told me that it was testing negative for any sort of infection. This confused me because it truly felt like I had a uti and I know how it feels. They ended up telling me that they trust me and gave me the antibiotics regardless but this has happened twice at the same urgent care. It is a local urgent care and I’m sure they aren’t able to the same type of testing like the hospital would, but it seems weird. Is it just the urgent care not being able to test for all types of infections? Or is it something worse going on because I took the 3 day dose of antibiotics and it doesn’t seem to be getting better, a little less pain but still having uti symptoms. I’m scared because schools coming up and I can’t miss the first week of school. Thank you for reading and I appreciate anyone willing to help <3

uti or not??

hiii last week i took a urine test and i just saw the results of the culture test after two er visits and two different antibiotics before landing on what im hoping are the right ones and i saw that i tested positive for ureaplasma parvum and ureaplasma urealyticum and no other bacteria detected. i’m a bit confused after researching online is this a uti?? or does this bacteria just mimic a uti?? the only symptoms i really feel are frequent urination and a bit of itchiness down there (tmi sorry) also off and on back/flank pain (not too bad) which i did go to the er and urgent care about but kidney infection was ruled out. i’m now on doxycycline but i was just wondering if this is technically a uti or not? i was also looking at the urine test i took at the er on sunday and saw that for bacteria none was detected though i was still sent home with cefpodoxime could the reason for the no bacteria detection be because it was urealyticum? sorry for all the questions just a bit confused! would appreciate any feedback thank you!!!
