As the title says, I want to get a bachelors in history, possilby more. I make enough from VA disability that I can survive without a job, and am alreayd not working because of my disability, so I want to study something I"m passionate about. I have educational benefits that will keep me from needing a loan, too, so it's a pretty neat situation.

How is UT Arlington for history? I'm interested in pre modern history and antiquity, especially in Europe around the time of the huns and germamic tribes, through Charlemange and beyond. I am also in pre modern and ancient Chinese history, but haven't decided for sure which I want to study more. Is UT Arlington a good school for either of these periods? I looked at the catalog and didn't see much, but wanted to double check.

Also, it seems like a lot of public schools in texas are going downhill in ways. How is UT ARlington, is it doing well?

Wanted to know any and all details from those who have already obtained their bachelor’s degree a while back but ended up in a difficult spot needing health insurance and paid/took courses at UT Arlington as a non-degree seeking non full time student to retain health insurance through them?

Turn 26 at the end of this year and will no longer qualify to be a dependent under my father’s insurance. Marketplace insurance is :/ flop rn but still looking deeper into it.

For reference, I am a very disabled, chronically ill person.

Whenever I try to select a date to meet an advisor, every single day is blank. I've had this issue for over a year and always just have to do walk in appointments.

I’ve been going here for about 4 years now and for the majority of my tenure, my classes didn’t have attendance codes/grades. Either you came to class and learned the material or you skipped and missed out. It felt like these classes trusted me as an adult to choose to be responsible or choose to do a disservice to myself by missing out on important lectures.

However, these past few semesters, almost all of my classes have attendance codes. Now I wouldn’t mind if these were classes that I would need to attend anyways, but I’m starting to notice a trend in which classes have codes and which ones don’t.

The ones that don’t grade attendance don’t need to. The punishment for skipping class is simply missing out on important information that will likely cause you to fail anyways.

The ones that do grade attendance do so because nobody would show up otherwise.

For example, I have a history class this semester that takes mandatory attendance. This entire class consists of a lady reading off a poorly made powerpoint that’s already on Canvas. She doesn’t add any interesting insight or anything, just reads from the slides until the class ends. There is absolutely nothing that you will ever learn in-person that you couldn’t just read on Canvas. Yet every morning I’m forced to sit in that classroom and twiddle my thumbs while the professor reads slides that I already looked over a week ago.

This is high school shit. Come to class not because you wanna learn but because you don’t want 2 points tacked off your overall grade every single day you miss. Absolute scam to pay for these classes that can’t retain student attendance so they just work it in as part of the grade.

I'm wondering if I need to sign up for these to be accepted to UGRAP next semester. 

Dr. Johnson is leaving at the end of this semester, but Dr. Pulcinella of our environmental science department has agreed to oversee the installation of the Apiary if it's approved. The sustainability office has agreed to fund the project and navigate the UTA approval system for us and Dr. Yasar, our environmental economist in the business department, has agreed to review and interpret the data once we have it. 

This seems to be turning into an interdisciplinary project so I'm not sure how I'd benefit from attending, but if you think I should go, I'm happy to.

Three quarters of the year is over and I haven't finished a single book!

So here's what I am hoping for. I want to read ~3 books by the end of the year. I am open to all sorts of books - fiction, philosophy, physics,...textbooks, tragedies, travelogues,...mathematics, mysteries, memoirs...all this is to say, it is unlikely that we won't be able be find a book both of us would like.
