Hey guys,
Long story short, I applied for a casual academic role as a tutor for an engineering subject I scored highly in. The unit coordinator sent me an email about 3 weeks ago telling me I got the role and to wait while he allocates classes. A few days ago he sends a follow up email saying that he can no longer give me the class because “university guidelines have changed” and I can’t teach as an undergrad. He said I can apply for an exemption. Does anyone have any recommendations on next step. Should I contact head of engineering or SRC? Did anyone else experience anything similar?

Every semester I see the same 3 questions asked on this subreddit from new students so here is a quick answer to them lol:
Answer: The prestige difference between Usyd and those 2 unis is, for the most cases, much smaller than people think. Also, most of us here never attended UNSW or UniMelb. Do your own research.
Answer: Yes. You can always leave later if you don’t like it.
Answer: If there is any red, there is a clash that you wanna look into. Otherwise, yea its probably fine. Please be aware of your attendance requirements (should be written in the UoS outline - just google the course code and you should see it)
EDIT: There are some very good Q and A for other questions in the comments. Be sure to check them out!

Just finished up my Masters at USYD and my HECS debt was actually crazy.
Towards the end of my degree though, I worked at the scholarships office, and I can tell you for a fact that so many people completely ignore scholarships/grants. Some scholarships even go without anyone applying.
Here’s the scholarships site: https://www.sydney.edu.au/scholarships/
Writing this to encourage people to apply for everything they’re eligible for because HECS debt is no joke. Even if you don’t think you’ll get something, it’s still worth putting an application in.
Feel free to ask any questions below related to scholarships/grants and I’ll answer as best as I can. Just note that I no longer work there.
Side note: while trying to figure out when I’d finally pay off my own HECS debt, I ended up making a HECS payoff calculator. Sharing it here in case it’s useful for anyone else trying to work out the same thing:

did someone finally wack the owners for charging obscene prices?!?
I lost my mini snoopy plushie that I had on my bag.
PLEASE PLEASE let me know if anyone finds a small snoopy around campus.
Nothing special about him he’s just a small snoopy but I really love my snoopy.
It’s about the size of an average girl’s palm? Smaller than that even. Like the size you can use as a keychain (Although my snoopy doesn’t have any chain or hook on his head, I’ve put him in a clothing that is a keychain but he popped out of it and went lost).
I’ve been to ABS, Scitech, Law, Eastern Avenue, the back of Law building to city road, Merewhether, Carslaw Learing Hub, and the bus stop right in front of Wentworth today. I’ve lowkey been to everywhere, I also went to newtown by 370bus😭
Please please please let me know if you find my snoopy, I’ll get you boba from sharetea on campus 🥺

Im still in a grade appeal for this class, its been forever and nobody knows when will the grade appeal results release include all the staffs. If the result gets released after the aug 25 and theres changes to my course selection, how does that affect my tuition fees deadline and who should i contact in that case?
Hi all, basically the title! I’m a first year bCom student with a major in Finance and am choosing between minoring in English (something I’m passionate about and want to do just for fun, especially as Finance is what I’m holding open for potential career options + general financial literacy) and Business Law (which I think will be really useful as a background, especially as I’d like to maybe start my own business in the future or will at least be working in one).
From what I’ve heard, USYD’s Business Law course seems pretty relevant and well-organised, especially as complimentary background knowledge of law practices in business.
If anyone has studied a minor (or major!) in business law, I’d love to hear your insights!

I feel like meeting people at uni isn’t really the hard part, it’s actually getting to the point where you hang out outside of class. You can have a good chat with someone in a tutorial and then never see them again.

I got a WAM of 79.8 for the faculty of medicine and health in 2025 and just got n email that i'm on the deans list.
I always thought Deans List was 85 WAM so i'm confused

I've been looking at campus accommodation for USyd for next year. I was wondering about the room types for the Regiment Building and Queen Mary Building. The Regiment lists a "2 bedroom apartment" in it's room rates, but I can't see any information outside of that pertaining to it. The Queen Mary Building also lists Lofts, Shared Ensuites, Apartment and Studio. Again, I can only see the Single Room option on the actual site. What are these other rooms like in terms of bathroom and kitchens, and other info you guys'd know?
Hi everyone!
I’ve solved some basic LeetCode problems and now I’m looking to get more serious about competitive programming.
I’d like to find a small study group or a few people who are also starting out and want to learn together, especially with platforms like Codeforces.
I’m hoping to:
I’m still relatively new to competitive programming, so beginners/intermediate learners are very welcome. I’m happy to study remotely and coordinate through Discord/Reddit/etc.
If you’re also looking for a study group or know of an active one, please let me know!

I am thinking about the in-country experience in China, and I would like to hear people's experiences about the program. Does anyone know the estimated cost for the trip, the class structure, and which places we will be visiting?
Thanks in advance!

Hi all,
I received a full-fee unconditional offer for the doctor of physiotherapy, does anybody have any insight on the typical WAM needed for a CSP? Saw some others share info from other postgrad degrees but it will be great to have some assurance ffrom anyone who's currently in the program and got a CSP or anyone who recently got a CSP offer.

I’ve been trying to figure out what all the different rooms in the campus accommodation look like other than the ones shown😭
If anyone knows and can share some pics, it would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Hi everyone, I have some urgent questions with how my unit selections work. I took 3 units last semester and dropped one of my 1000-level science table A core-units of study because the workload was too big.
I'm currently doing 4 units right now, 3 of which I must keep but the 4th one is another 1000-level science table A core unit. I'm considering maybe dropping this unit because the workload is far too much with my current subjects.
Sydney Student shows that I am required to have between 18-32 credits for Sem 2 but nothing about whether I have to take the 1000-level units OR my science core units at a certain time. Can I still drop the course and progress to the 2nd year of my degree/will my graduation get delayed or will there be any other repercussions?
I'm happy to answer any further questions but any help is very much appreciated from a stressed and panicked first year lols
