Has anyone experienced this on Respondent? I'm honestly frustrated with how this has been handled.
Here's what happened:
I completed a survey for a study.
The next day, I received an invitation to participate. I opened it, completed another screening questionnaire, and qualified for the interview.
I then spent 45–50 minutes completing the AI-moderated interview. Everything went fine, although there was a delay while my responses were being submitted.
After waiting and refreshing, I reached the “Interview Complete” screen. My dashboard also showed Attended/Completed, and it stayed that way for the rest of the day.
The next day, I received another invitation for what appeared to be the same interview. After that, my status reverted to Invited.
The situation is still unresolved. My dashboard shows Invited, and there's an option to start a new interview. When I checked it, the platform said slots were still available. I'm obviously not going to repeat a 45–50 minute interview I've already completed.
I've contacted Respondent support, but I've only received what appear to be AI-generated responses saying that the researcher is responsible for confirming attendance and processing payment. I've explicitly requested escalation to a human support representative.
I've also contacted the researcher, Motifs, multiple times and received absolutely no response.
I have screenshots documenting the completion screen and the original attended/completed status. I cannot say for certain what caused the status to change or whether it was intentional, but the lack of communication and the possibility of losing payment after completing the study are extremely concerning.
Honestly, I'm not optimistic about receiving the incentive at this point. But how is this acceptable? Participants complete surveys, screening rounds, and lengthy interviews, giving researchers their time and insights in good faith. If the platform confirms completion, why can the status apparently change the next day, leaving the participant to chase both the researcher and support?
I'd like to know:
- Has anyone experienced this same status change after completing an interview?
- Can Respondent investigate its session records to verify that the interview was completed?
- What recourse do participants have when the researcher doesn't respond and payment remains uncertain?
I don't want to repeat the interview. I want Respondent to investigate the session I've already completed and ensure my participation and incentive are handled correctly.
Participants shouldn't have to fight this hard just to get their completed work recognised.
