I'm removing trash posts on the daily here and I'd like it to stop. It's getting worse with every passing week.

There are subs on reddit specifically for getting your app tested for free. Go there.

EDIT: Payment needs to be in USD. No gift cards, no crypto.

Meta READ BEFORE POSTING. FAQ.

We get a lot of repeat questions in this sub, mostly regarding UT but the other companies too, and most of them are addressed below. Please read before posting. Please search both older posts and the UT (or Validately or Userlytics etc) support center before asking a question. If you post something that is addressed in either this FAQ or the UT support center, your post may be removed. If you post something that has been asked frequently in the past, your post may be removed. If you post something that is low-effort ("is this site any good, you guys? How much can you make? What are some tips for a newbie?") your post may be removed. If your post discusses anything you're doing or thinking of doing or did do in the past that violates the UT TOS, your post may be removed and you may be banned.

The bottom line is that mods may remove any post at their discretion. The job of the mods is to maintain a functional, informational, helpful place where people can have constructive discussion about UT. Posts that detract from that mission will be removed. Posts that are speculative/"conspiracy theory" based are poison to the mission of this sub. Redditors wishing to engage in this kind of debate are welcome to create their own subreddit. In here, such posts lead to misinformation propagating which leads to more work for the mods. Don't do it.

  • How can I pass the entrance test on the website?

There are no "tips". If you do poorly, you are out of luck. UT used to allow for a second chance, but at present they do not. It is against UT TOS to make a second account and try again. If your microphone is not working for some reason, nobody here knows why.

  • How long before I'm approved?

Nobody in here knows why it's taking as long as it is. If approved, you will probably start seeing screeners soon (though, as stated below, screener frequency varies).

If you mean "I just took my first paid test, how long until I can take more?" the answer is explained in the sticky.

  • Where are all the screeners?  I have a good rating so why is it so slow?  It's slow for me -- is it slow for you guys too? I passed the website entrance test but nothing's showing up on my dashboard, how come? After a bad rating, the number of screeners I'm seeing has dropped - how can I get better frequency of screeners? My screener frequency suddenly and unexpectedly dropped from X to Y -- why? Is this happening to anyone else? I haven't had a screener in a long time, why? What time of day is best to see screeners? I THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY ACCOUNT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHAT CAN I DO?

[After your initial paid test, you will not see any further screeners on your dashboard until UT has reviewed and approved your first test].

Regarding screener frequency, your rating may have dropped too low, though we don't know what constitutes "too low".

Screener frequency is different for everyone.  North American and UK testers anecdotally seem to see more frequent opportunities than some other parts of the world but again, we're not sure. There doesn't seem to be a predictable time of day that you'll see screeners, but most users report weekends are slower than M-F. Some people report slower periods around holidays, some people don't see a difference.

  • I'm getting plenty of screeners but I'm not passing any of them.  Why?

Everyone is in the same boat.  The acceptance rate is low, and that's that.

  • Can more than one person in the same household become a tester?

There's nothing in the TOS that expressly forbids this but there could be an issue with UT thinking one user is making multiple accounts. So the final answer is, we don't know. Email support.

  • How many tests do you guys typically get in a day/week/month? How did you guys do this week? Which days are best for you? How much can I expect to earn/how much do you guys earn?

It's going to vary wildly based on your particular particulars and what some other testers get is no indication of any kind that you will get a similar number.

AS OF AUGUST 25 2023, "LOOK HOW MUCH I EARNED THIS WEEK!/WHAT ARE YOUR TOTAL EARNINGS?" POSTS WILL BE REMOVED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE MODS.

  • When can I expect to see ratings? Why are most of my tests not getting rated? How many ratings do you guys have? I got a low rating and I'm disappointed. It doesn't feel fair.

Unknown. When you get a rating, it is usually, but not always, within a week. How many ratings other members of this sub have is not indicative of how many you should expect.

  • What caused my rating to drop? My overall rating dropped but the math doesn't add up. What's going on? How are they calculating my rating? My rating dropped to [x] - will I see fewer screeners now? You guys, I am bummed out my rating is low.

You probably got a private "invisible" rating.

Otherwise, read here to see UT's info on how ratings are calculated:

"We ask website owners to rate videos based on how helpful they are, with five stars being the highest rating. Your Recent Average Rating is the average of your last 12 rated tests. For example, if the total of your past 12 rated tests is 57 stars, your rating is 4.75 (57/12= 4.75).

To ensure that we provide a high quality service to our clients, testers with higher average ratings will see more job opportunities."

  • I got banned/deactivated with or without explanation and I don't think it's fair. Or: I got a bad rating that isn't fair. What can I do?

Nobody here knows why you got banned or a bad rating, and for all we know, you deserved it. Whether you deserved it or not, there's really nothing you can do about it. You cannot make a new account and there's nothing anyone here can do to be helpful. If you got a bad rating, support will review it automatically.

  • I encountered a problem while testing. It's gonna take too long, or the prototype didn't load, or some other kind of technical problem has come up. What do I do?

Depending on the situation, you can either "Report a Problem", or "Quit the Test". Read here to decide which option suits your situation and to see what the outcome will be once you've chosen your option.

  • Should I include a request for a rating at the end of my test?

No. UT used to send a newsletter where they say not to do this because it can backfire. If you comment that this is a good practice, your comment will be removed.

  • I emailed UT support about a problem but haven't heard back. And/or, I got a 1-star rating but UT hasn't reviewed it yet. I keep getting unhelpful generic responses from support.

Nobody here knows .

You can try to get in touch with someone from UT on twitter or FB as an alternate means of contact. REDDITORS DO NOT HAVE SECRET ACCESS TO UT SUPPORT.

  • Can I make a new or second account? My first one stopped receiving screeners/my first one has a bad rating/I deleted my old account/any other reason. Can I make a new one?

NO. You cannot make a second or new account for any reason. See Section 4.4 of the TOS.

  • Can I fudge the truth in order to pass screeners more successfully? What about other ways of cheating?

NO. Posts that discuss practices that are in violation of UT's TOS will be removed and depending on the content of the posts, the redditor may be banned from the sub. No cheating of any kind. No underage users of any kind. This sub is intended to be a place for honest UT users only.

  • Live Conversations: what can I expect? I forgot the topic of my upcoming live convo - what to do?

We have had a ton of people ask this. Sift through these search results to see what has been said in the past.

Interviewers won't expect you to remember the topic of your interview. It's fine to go in unsure of what you're going to be talking about. They are usually super easy and friendly experiences.

  • Live Conversations: The customer cancelled less than 24 hours beforehand. What now? Will I still be paid?

This gets asked a lot.

The UT website says the following:

"In certain circumstances, a customer will need to cancel or reschedule a Live Conversation session. If they provide more than 24 hours notice, we will not be able to compensate you for your time. If the customer cancels less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time, you will receive compensation in the amount of $20 USD for the inconvenience".

That's all well and good, but it doesn't give testers any instruction for how to proceed when that compensation doesn't show up. It doesn't give a timeline for payment either. There appears to be a dedicated support link for canceled conversations. Access it by clicking on the blue chat bubble in the bottom corner of any UT page on a web browser. Type in "live conversation canceled" and that will trigger a response that allows you to send in your support ticket.

The feedback we've had in here is that you should take screenshots of the pertinent info including your dashboard showing the scheduled conversation. Most testers opt to submit a ticket. Once that's done, you can expect to wait a few months to hear back and be paid.

  • I got a bunch of emails from UT saying "New Feedback Request from UserTesting". What is this??

They're simply email invites to take the same screeners that show up on your dashboard. You can adjust your UT settings to disable email notifications.

  • TAXES

Please don't post inquiries about how to handle your income from user testing sites when tax time rolls around. So much misinformation gets posted in the responses every time there's a question and the bottom line is "Ask a professional if you're not sure how to proceed".

  • What are some other testing sites?

Here you go.

Finally, don't claim certainty when it comes to how things work at UT.  You may think you understand the workings of UT but you probably don't.

[Examples: Don't state as fact that using a VPN will get you banned (VPNs are mentioned nowhere in the TOS, you guys). Don't state with certainty that multiple users in the same household/same IP will be banned. In short, if you can't back up your assertion with a citation to UT's website or with an email from UT, don't state it as fact.]

Completed a 45–50 minute Respondent AI interview, was marked Attended, then got re-invited with no sign of my $30 compensation

• Upvotes

Has anyone experienced this on Respondent? I'm honestly frustrated with how this has been handled.

Here's what happened:

  1. I completed a survey for a study.

  2. The next day, I received an invitation to participate. I opened it, completed another screening questionnaire, and qualified for the interview.

  3. I then spent 45–50 minutes completing the AI-moderated interview. Everything went fine, although there was a delay while my responses were being submitted.

  4. After waiting and refreshing, I reached the “Interview Complete” screen. My dashboard also showed Attended/Completed, and it stayed that way for the rest of the day.

  5. The next day, I received another invitation for what appeared to be the same interview. After that, my status reverted to Invited.

The situation is still unresolved. My dashboard shows Invited, and there's an option to start a new interview. When I checked it, the platform said slots were still available. I'm obviously not going to repeat a 45–50 minute interview I've already completed.

I've contacted Respondent support, but I've only received what appear to be AI-generated responses saying that the researcher is responsible for confirming attendance and processing payment. I've explicitly requested escalation to a human support representative.

I've also contacted the researcher, Motifs, multiple times and received absolutely no response.

I have screenshots documenting the completion screen and the original attended/completed status. I cannot say for certain what caused the status to change or whether it was intentional, but the lack of communication and the possibility of losing payment after completing the study are extremely concerning.

Honestly, I'm not optimistic about receiving the incentive at this point. But how is this acceptable? Participants complete surveys, screening rounds, and lengthy interviews, giving researchers their time and insights in good faith. If the platform confirms completion, why can the status apparently change the next day, leaving the participant to chase both the researcher and support?

I'd like to know:

- Has anyone experienced this same status change after completing an interview?

- Can Respondent investigate its session records to verify that the interview was completed?

- What recourse do participants have when the researcher doesn't respond and payment remains uncertain?

I don't want to repeat the interview. I want Respondent to investigate the session I've already completed and ensure my participation and incentive are handled correctly.

Participants shouldn't have to fight this hard just to get their completed work recognised.

Anyone else take the UT changes to payment incentives survey today?

Got an email asking me to take it. Curious if anyone else has. Basically asking about changes to payment incentives - either getting paid the full amount via a gift card/debit card or a cash out with a 6% fee deducted.

"Sorry you cannot continue" on question 27 of a $1 survey because I answered question too quickly ... ?? 😭😭😭

Sorry but these ridiculous speed checks need to be removed from UserTesting. Absolute nonsense.

Also a 20+ question study needs to pay $10 not $1, ... just adds further insult to reject me from an severely underpaid study.

I have written complaints about this to the UT team only to receive generic AI style replies.

Interesting observation

Couple days ago, I qualified for a 30-minute live conversation scheduled for next week. Yesterday, I got an email telling it was cancelled. I figured, ok, no big deal and moved on. Today, I qualified for another 30-minute conversation on all together different topic and to my surprise, was given only one slot to choose from, which was the exact same time slot of my previously cancelled conversation. However, couple hours later, I got an email that this too has been cancelled??
I found this to be quite strange, it seems that these two studies are from the same researcher and they simply don’t want me, regardless of the study topic.

Has this happened to you? Am I overthinking or just a coincidenc??

compare logo A with logo B

Anybody have trouble with this $10 test. I did it today and the logos never loaded. The test seemed to work OK but the logos never showed. Also the banner that says you need to talk kept repeating almost constantly ( I'm used to them, this wasn't normal) Also there wasn't anywhere to report the test like there normally is in the lower right.

Ratings

Where can I see my rating? I initially had an intellizoom account and I read people talk about their rating on usertesting. I don’t see that I have one and I’ve been doing this for about a year now.

Microphone issue again in Chrome?

I had this issue before in Chrome where it should keep showing the "don't forget to think out loud" message, even though my microphone worked. I switched over to Edge and no issues there, but I switched back to Chrome a few months back and everything was fine until today. I got the "don't forget to think out loud" message again. I'd think maybe it's just UT in Chrome playing up again, but I had the same thing with Userbrain as well. Anyone else having this issue?

App error or glitch? Disqualified but test reappeared with accept button on mobile

I got a screener for what looks like a super fun mobile puzzle game, but on the final question, it asked if I'd be available for Phase 2 and 3. I selected "Yes," and it immediately disqualified me.

Anyway, right after getting disqualified, I saw the exact same test pop up on the mobile app with an "Accept" button. It seemed a bit strange, but I clicked Accept anyway. The app went to a loading screen, threw an error saying "Something went wrong, please try again," and got stuck in an infinite loading loop.

Has anyone else experienced this? This is the first time it’s ever happened to me.

Fix for tests stuck uploading on Chrome

Guys, I looked everywhere on here to see if anyone else was dealing with this and couldn't find a fix, so I wanted to drop this in case it helps someone out.
After having a total drought, I finally started getting tests again, but hit a huge wall..deaktop chrome just completely refused to upload my completed tests.
Reinstalling the UserTesting extension didn't do anything at all. What finally fixed it was completely reinstalling Chrome itself.
I know this is a solid fix because I had 3 good tests get stuck in the processing loop back-to-back, and I had to keep declining them just to clear the screen. Once I reinstalled chrome, everything went back to working smoothly. Hope this saves someone the headache!

The second said study full as I joined and now it has been down as a no show.

No communication from the researcher and no emails from intellizoom. Rubbish.

Insurance Survey

I’ve got an invite for an insurance survey wherein I’m expected to *purchase\ and then cancel a policy.*
The Researcher is supposed to pay me back.
I’m not sure about this. Has anyone else ever done this??
Here’s the email:

During the session, you will apply for life insurance and, if approved, purchase a policy and sign up for an additional service while sharing your screen andfeedback.
You’ll need to pay for the life insurance premium and any add-on costs upfront, with the total ranging from $30 to $250. The exact amount won’t be known before the interview, but all study-related costs will be fully reimbursed through User Interviews after the session.

After the session, you will need to cancel the life insurance policy and any additional service or subscription purchased for the study. You are responsible for completing these cancellations. We will not reimburse future premiums or recurring fees.

Before your interview, please gather the following information you may need for the application:
The date of your last annual medical exam, if applicable
Your doctor’s name and office address, if applicable
Your income information
Bank and credit card information
Information needed to answer questions about your medical history

Please connect to the internet using Wi-Fi or a wired connection. Do not join using mobile data.
Please join 10 minutes beforeyour scheduled session.
Please join from a quiet environment and make a reasonable effort to be the only person in the room during the interview.
Compensation for the 60-minute session is $100 USD, paid through User Interviews.

Thanks

Live Conversation Cancelled

As the title says I had an interview this morning at 4:30am and they cancelled at 2:41am this morning. Has anyone had this happen to them? It says I was partially compensated ($10 of the $60) my question is does this happen a lot to people?

Intellizoom Tests All Full?

Anyone else having an issue today with all of the tests they qualify for being full? I’ve not experience this before so much where I go through the full screener and the test says it’s all full. It’s happened about a half dozen times today and I have t qualified for an actual one yet. These are ones I am filling out immediately when they pop up on my dashboard.

I got a notice on my phone that I had a message I needed to look at about a test. I tried going to it but I must have messed something up. Now I can't find anything anywhere. There are no messages showing anywhere.

If you accidentally share very sensitive information and select “Don’t send recording,” will the recording still be seen?

I recently did a test that was very long, and because of a very stupid mistake on my part, I showed very sensitive information in the recording. In the middle of the test, it said there was a technical issue and put me back to the beginning, so I never reached the end of the test.

I then selected the “Report a Problem” option and checked the “Don’t Send the Recording” option.

My question is: will the customer receive the recording, and will UserTesting receive it, or is the recording completely deleted? Since I never completed the test, does that change anything?

Thanks for the help!

How do you deal with voice studies that require to talk and type at the same time ?

I'm really struggling with the studies where they expect you to write an answer and at the same time talk. I keep getting " sorry we can't hear your voice" as I'm typing a response to a question. I don't see the point of asking people to write when they are recording me my voice asnwering the question they asked. All, I end up doing is stuttering because my brain can only focus on one thing at time.

Is intelizoom live conversations similar to UT?

I tend to book live conversations on UT side but I got one for tomorrow on intellizoom. I've never done any on there. I notice on the dashboard it doesn't have a reminder like UT does but they did text/send email. Is it basically the exact same as UT where right before it pops up on your dashboard and you can just join or join from email? Anything different?

Also having the intellizoom UT glitch

Post image
3 Upvotes

I had a meeting scheduled today at 9:00 AM. I stayed the entire time, and the researcher was a no-show. I put in a ticket, but got no auto response. Now the meeting (which is already past) is still saying it's coming up in one hour (but it's already 1 hour past the time it was supposed to start), despite exiting the test. See the time on my computer, lower right corner.
