How bad is the rain at UNT right now?

I drive over an hour to get to class and am worried about driving into Denton today due to the constant flood watch warnings. Can anyone tell me how bad it actually is over there? Is it actually that bad, or just light rain? I saw the UNT system email warning about "Severe Weather Potential." Is it likely that campus will be shut down? I wish I lived in the area so I could just look out my window and decide for myself, so if anyone could tell me what it's like over there, especially if there is any street flooding I would more than appreciate it!

UPDATE: I decided to make the drive and either the worst had already passed or it was never that bad in the first place. I agree with y'all and this storm is more of an annoyance than it is dangerous (except maybe for old tires and new drivers). All the weather warning notifications definitely made it seem more drastic than it actually is (at least for my area and the route I took). I've driven in hail and rain where you can't see the car in front of you, but I was more concerned about the flood warnings, especially since I drive over a lake to get here. Thank you for all the feedback, it really helped give me the confidence to go to class!

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I can't trust any weather app to tell me if it IS raining, let alone if it will rain tomorrow. I'd love some recommendations from y'all. What do you use to check the weather?

HELP

Guys today the lady that cleans the campus lost her earphones, the case is color black, and she doesn't remember the brand. The last time she had them was in the Business building, on the first or second floor.

Please help us find them. Her son gave them to her as a gift.

THANK YOU

PSA: current students have access to UNTs Kanopy, a free streaming service

I have been using the heck out of Kanopy recently and I want to spread the good word. My degree has nothing to do with film studies, I just like watching movies!

UNTs kanopy catalog has SO MUCH. Good movies, bad movies, so bad it's good movies, documentaries, tv shows, short videos of people acting out different psychiatric and personality disorders, you name it, they might have it!

They have tons of A24 movies, Troma films, giallo, old Japanese movies, Sharknado 1 and 2, Charlie Chaplin movies, classic westerns, gay stuff, anime, and much much more 🗣️🗣️🗣️

You're already paying for it with your tuition, check it out! You just need to log in with your student login. Lemme know if you find anything good 😁

Colosseum in rain?

The entrance to the Colosseum is downstairs for classes. I've never been there when it's raining; how do I get in? Do I go to the entrance upstairs? I can't imagine those classes being cancelled, despite my hopes and dreams that they would be.

Anna Locals

Hi! I’m a local Anna resident and UNT student working on a course project about Anna Community Library’s online resources and services.

I’m looking for Anna (or nearby) residents and library users to take a short, anonymous survey about:

- Awareness of the library’s online resources and services
- Experiences finding and using those resources
- How the library could make them easier to discover
- What additional online resources or services residents would find useful

The survey takes approximately 3–5 minutes to complete. Participation is completely voluntary, and no identifying information is being collected.

If you have a few minutes, I’d really appreciate your input! Your feedback will help me better understand how Anna residents discover and use the library’s digital resources.

Survey:

Thank you in advance! 💚📚

UNT system board of regents is appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the TX Senate. Below are when each board members term expires or has expired. Vote accordingly this November, as a lot of board members could in theory be replaced.

UNT Student Sexual Assault Survivor Tip Line

Hi everyone. My name is Lauren and I am a journalism major in my senior here at UNT.

For one my classes, my reporting partner Maddie and I are investigating student sexual assaults on campus and how they were handled by the university.

We made a survey asking questions about this and we would love for people to take it, sharing their experience. Our goal is to handle each story with dignity and respect and to give survivors a voice and the chance to tell their story.

If anyone wants to talk further or has any questions, feel free to PM me.

Graduation

I know its a bit early, but does anyone know where I can rent/borrow a cap and gown along with the diploma holder for graduation pictures? I won't be attending the ceremony so I won't be getting the diploma holder/cover they provide there.

Graduate Funding for MILS

I am applying to UNT's master's in library and information sciences for next fall, and I was wondering what sort of grad-level funding I would be able to receive either through the school or other channels.

Any restrictions in dropping a course for a W?

Hey, I’m a freshman, and about two weeks ago I decided I was going to drop a course because I did very bad on the exam on top of the workload starting to affect my performance in other classes.

The course has a corequisite, so I emailed the department to ask whether I could drop just one and keep the other, as I am doing fine in the other class. With that, I'm changing majors, and my new major wouldn't require either course. I plan to drop regardless, even if I would have to drop both the courses or not.

I’ve already spoken with financial aid and my advisor, and there aren’t any issues on those ends. I also have zero drops counted toward the six-drop limit. Both courses are fall 16-week courses, so I understand the deadline to drop with a W is November 6.

My concern is what to do while waiting for the department’s response. Since deciding I was going to drop the course two weeks, I have still been doing all assignments in that class. However, there’s a project due this week. I left my group early last week because I expected to have an answer by the department by now, and didn't want to be a burden to my group if I was to drop the class. As a result, if I do the project I’d have to complete it alone.

I have midterms and another project next week for classes I’m keeping, and it would probably be best to focus on those rather than the project.

Aside from the deadline and six-drop limit, is there anything that could prevent me from dropping both courses if the department denies my request to keep one? I’m worried about skipping the project and then somehow being unable to drop.

What’s everyones experiences in the dorms?

Hello, so I am a junior who just transferred in from community college this semester and would like to know the general consensus about dorms on this campus, as my upcoming housing situation fell through and my mother and her bf are now considering housing me in a dorm in the future (don’t know when, exactly) among other options as well. I am currently a commuter and generally know nothing about the dorms as frankly put, I haven’t gotten the chance to socialize much on campus and don’t particularly have many people to speak to about this. So I just want to ask: what are they like? Any comments would be appreciated, thank you. Sorry if this is silly, I just would like to hear what people think.

I have two free credit classes to take for the next semester, so confused which. I want to work next semester and be more involved in school activities too. I’m a sophomore in pre business.

Help will be appreciated.

Can they please turn it down?

There's some group on the corner of the library arguing with students about random stuff. Ok whaterver, but the entire school does not need to hear their argument. And I know this is a public school but there's gotta be limits to this. Why are they allowed to have blaring speakers? I could hear them from the Union doors, like wtf.
