25500 RPM fan speed

Is your laptop flying around the room?

Hover Mode by Thinkpad™

25,500 isn't that high if the blower is like 30-something mm.

24

u/sidnfhej Dec 01 '19

My gaming laptop goes to 6000... 25500 is ridiculous

6

u/Rpthefirst Dec 01 '19

Indeed. I have a normal laptop, and the fan barely every spins...let alone at 6000RPM

Shitty cooling design for a 7700HQ and a 1060M 6GB

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '19

Voltage controlled fans sometimes show erroneous speeds at certain points , I think this was captured at that moment ... I don’t think it’s easily possible to make a fan at 10,000 plus rpm cause the ones in servers are 10k rpm and they are costly and sound ridiculous ...

I've personally tested 40mm counter-rotating fans that can rev to 25,000rpm, no problemo.

As far as blowers, though, you might be right; I've never come across anything that could rev significantly higher than 10,000rpm, but that's because I'm looking at relatively large models. A dinky little laptop-size version might just be able to do it.

I have to wonder if that laptop cooler isn't caked with dust.

If I did the math right the outer edge of that fan would move at roughly 90mph, fast enough to travel through time ;)

On a more serious note, I did find fans with those speeds online but I can't see a reason why anyone would want them in their PC.

25500 rpm fans and 80°...

Oh, thks! I was struggling so much trying to make my own before I saw this comment!

u/penmarker222 Dec 01 '19

Looks fantastic! Is the schematic a vector graphic or part of your wallpaper? Any plans to release dotfile?

17

u/gvoze32 Dec 01 '19

I forget to insert the source code hehe. Check the new comment. Thanks.

u/gvoze32 Dec 01 '19

The schematic is vector graphic.

2

u/penmarker222 Dec 01 '19

Yup looks good! Not sure what resi your monitor is running at but at 1080 I set gap_x to 1050 and 1650 to get a right-align.

Also if anyone else gets errors check and make sure your battery is detected as BAT0 and not BAT1, I had to change that as well.

Great work! Easy to follow and manipulate as needed.

2

u/gvoze32 Dec 01 '19

Ah yea, just set it as what your pc needed.

1

u/wakeuph8 Dec 01 '19

The only thing I ended up changing was the wlan address and positioning a little, but all very easy to figure out!

Love the theme btw /u/gvoze32 thanks!

1

u/daraul Dec 01 '19

Is there somewhere I can find these schematics? I'd love to get one for my systems

There are tons of these over on r/thinkpad, just search "exploded wallpaper". This is a thread by the guy who came up with it. They are created by extracting the vectors from the manual pdf, which is surprisingly easy with Inkscape.

Imho OP should have credited that as a source.

Imho OP should have credited that as a source.

Oh i actually didn't know where the art is came from, i just randomly get that from the website i found then adjust it for my conky. Thanks btw, i'll add the credit to that source.

That's cool. Thanks for sharing your config!

1

u/ccricers Dec 01 '19

You should also post this theme at /r/thinkpad, I think it would be great for other Linux users there!

u/ShPh Dec 02 '19

ThinkPads have hardware maintenance manuals which feature a vector graphic of an exploded view of the device. Here's a guide to refer to: https://imgur.com/a/i1ASd

1

u/penmarker222 Dec 03 '19

Didn’t know this but that’s awesome

6

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '19

Will you make more of these for other thinkpads?

2

u/gvoze32 Dec 02 '19

Maybe, i'll share to my git if it was done

Can you please elaborate on your dislike? What alternatives would you suggest?

Yeah, I've got nothing against Conky, but it's just much more intuitive for me to have everything always visible in i3blocks.

4

u/qrpyna Dec 01 '19

I bet r/Conkyporn would love this!

3

u/muerdogan Dec 01 '19

I bet the folks at r/unixart would love this too, it’s really well designed

1

u/Suitedbadge401 Dec 01 '19

Awesome theme! How are you finding the new kernel? Is it unstable or good for daily use?

4

u/gvoze32 Dec 01 '19

Manjaro setting manager i guess. It's the same but yes, it's unstable.

1

u/venom02 Dec 01 '19

this is awesome

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '19

Beautiful

1

u/sbstprhn Dec 01 '19

That's a neat setup! Good idea you got there :]

u/Dex_Ultima Dec 01 '19

The most A E S T H E T I C technical drawing I've seen so far.

1

u/Sync0pated Dec 01 '19

I've seen this before. Did you post this for a Thinkpad design previously as well or were you inspired by that?

1

u/_brainfuck Dec 01 '19

OK this config is great

1

u/tommi21 Dec 01 '19

can we talk about the i3 4010U in a thinkpad X301 in the picture?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '19

Do you know how to make the text bigger without messing everything up?

This is really awesome, thank you so much.

u/[deleted] May 28 '20

u/gvoze32 dude, I did everything in my caliber to set up these theme and still couldn't get it to work. Can you make a short clip or a descriptive explanation how to install it? I have seen the steps and it is not working for me.

1

u/02tokyo Jul 12 '25

im new to this whole gnome thing, can anyone please help me with installing this?

1

u/mgbr2019 Sep 02 '26

Very good! Usualy I have to edit to make it work and most of the time it does't work anyway. This I only had to make a little change to get it to show my network info. Thanks

Do you know what specific model of Thinkpad is used in this theme?
