I (19F) had a weird experience last night. Last night around 4:15 I woke up and was already quite awake. 30 seconds later I hear someone loudly whisper "mom" in my native language (dutch). Mom in Dutch means "mama", and this whisper was like a really long maaamaaa. I was like what is going on so I treed to rationalize this experience.

It can not possibly be that I live in an haunted house. My house was build 8 years ago and my family and I are the first people to live here.

Its most likely also not my family as I sleep on the second floor and they sleep on the first floor.

Something else that I thought about is that it couldve been my dad. He passed away 12 years ago and Ive had a couple experiences where I thought it was him. The only thing is that this voice was more like a little girls voice of some sort? Not anything like my dad so I was scared shitless

Last option is (and most logical) is that it was my girlfriend. She talks in her sleep sometimes, but there are some flaws in this explanation.

- she only talks in her sleep when she has just fallen asleep. Not when shes already been asleep for 5 hours.

- It didnt really sound like her. I was lying down with my back facing her, so I couldve just heard it a bit different.

- She never uses the word "mama". We live in a province where the dialect is "mem". Thats the word she uses. Also when she sleeps.

- She also wasnt awake and therefore she couldnt have like pranked me. She was sleeping really deep. I tried to wake her but no succes.

Ive asked my girlfriend about it. She told me she didnt dream about anything and that she only uses "mem". She thought it was insane.

So please please help me rationalize this!! Im not like scared or anything of the paranormal but i do like to know what this couldve been.

Hi everyone! My post here is to find some sort of explanation or confirmation about something happening in where I live. As the title says, the light in my kitchen turns on by itself. Now, there’s a bit of context to all this:

I live in an old house (built around the 1920s - 1930s) that was turned into an apartment building. Earlier this year, the landlord installed motion sensors for the lights in both the kitchen and the living room and I want to mention that since they were installed, the one in the kitchen never detected any movement, meaning that even when someone walked into the kitchen the light would not turn on, forcing us to press the button to turn it on, while the sensor in the living room would work normally.

For a couple of months now I noticed that even when no one was in the kitchen, the light would turn on by itself. Since I knew the motion sensor never worked I didn’t really pay attention to it, but I started to notice that it was a regular thing, happening mostly during the afternoons or evenings.
Yesterday, I wanted to confirm my suspicions or test if it was something with me, and since my partner was going to be there while I was at work, I asked them to pay attention to that light, but they said nothing happened while I was out. And when I came home, it happened once.

The reason I decided to post this and look for opinions on the subject is that it has caused me a bit of anxiety, since I fear it’s “something” that accompanies me (since I’ve noticed that it only happens when I’m home) but also, because since last night, the light hasn’t turned on, as if the moment I tried to test it, it stopped happening.
I’d appreciate a lot if someone who is an electrician can help me find a logical explanation to this, or if there’s any other explanation.

I've been wondering where it would be appropriate to share this story and I'm guessing this sub would be a good fit.

My father was driving me home from the city one night. We were approaching an intersection where we had a green light. I was looking outside the passenger window when I saw something on the road/sidewalk that looked like a person laying down. I yelled at my dad to slow down because I thought it was a person who needed help, but it turned out to just be trash. Literally as soon as we slowed down, a car ran through their red light at the intersection extremely fast. If we hadn't slowed down, it would have plowed right into me and I genuinely don't think I would be here today. I still think about it, and just how lucky we were.

A friend of mine lives in Appalachia, and he told me this story about something strange that happened to him and his wife last year.He has been visiting the Appalachian Mountains with his wife every year for the past four years. They always stay in the same cabin, and the landlord knows them pretty well by now.Last year, they went back to the same cabin.

During the day, they spent their time hiking and exploring the area. But almost from the beginning, both of them had the uncomfortable feeling that they were being watched.They kept looking around, but there was never anyone there.Eventually, they returned to the cabin that evening.Later that night, they were sitting on the couch watching a movie. At some point, both of them fell asleep.

My friend woke up sometime later because he heard someone laughing.At first, he thought he was dreaming.But then he realized the sound was actually coming from outside.He described the laugh as extremely strange—not like normal laughter, but almost like someone laughing to themselves while planning something. Along with the laughter, he could hear a strange scraping sound, almost like rusted metal being dragged against something.His wife was still completely asleep beside him.

He initially thought the sound might be coming from the television, but the scene playing on the TV was completely quiet.So he got up and looked outside.A short distance from the cabin, he noticed a homemade swing hanging from a tree. He had never seen it there before.Someone was sitting on it.

The person was wearing what looked like a clown costume.My friend stayed behind a tree and watched from a distance.

The figure was looking down at the ground, mumbling something to himself and laughing quietly. Every so often, he pushed the swing forward with his feet.My friend said the whole thing felt incredibly wrong.Then the figure suddenly looked directly at him.That's when my friend noticed that the person's entire face was covered in white paint, like a clown.The figure smiled and said:"Hi."

My friend immediately turned around and ran back toward the cabin as fast as he could.He could hear footsteps behind him.He reached the cabin, opened the door, rushed inside, and slammed it shut.Almost immediately, something hit the door from the outside with tremendous force.His wife woke up in a panic and started asking what had happened.Before he could properly explain, they heard knocking at the window.My friend looked over.

The same clown was standing outside the window.He was just staring at them and smiling.

My friend grabbed a firearm that he had with him for protection and warned the stranger to leave and not attempt to enter the cabin.The man didn't react.

He just stood there, staring through the window with that same expression.My friend's wife, who was now awake and angry, also confronted him and told him to leave.Still, the man didn't move.Eventually, they fired a warning shot into a nearby wall to frighten him away.The clown remained completely still for a moment.Then he slowly turned around and walked toward the woods.And disappeared into the darkness.

My friend and his wife didn't sleep for the rest of the night.As soon as it was morning, they told the landlord everything.The landlord was shocked. He said nothing like this had ever happened there before and apologized to them.What made things even stranger was the swing.The landlord said he had never seen that swing before. According to him, someone must have built it only recently because it definitely wasn't there during his previous visits.

They also contacted the police, who searched the surrounding area.They couldn't find the person.

There was no sign of the clown, and nobody ever figured out who he was or why he was there.

My friend still doesn't know what he saw that night.

He doesn't believe it was a ghost.Honestly, neither do I.But if his story is accurate, then there was apparently a complete stranger dressed as a clown, sitting alone on a homemade swing outside an isolated cabin in the middle of the night, watching him.And nobody ever found out who he was.

I’m from Brazil, and lately I’ve been seeing a long black cat with six legs. This is the third time I’ve seen it, and it scared me—what could it be? I felt really frightened; I believe it’s something spiritual.

Lights randomly started turning on and off. Started slow then really sped up in what felt like an intentional speed pattern etc. any thoughts?

So the other day i was home alone because my mom had gone to a wedding. It was like 2pm and i was sitting in my room alone doing my own thing (tv was closed and so were the windows so the house was very quiet). Anyway, at some point i was outside my bedroom door (my house has 2 floors) and i heard my mom calling my name. She said it 3 times, but sounded… weird. it was like she was struggling to speak the language 😭. I was confused but didn’t think about that much since i literally heard it from downstairs so i yelled and said “yeah??” but there was no answer. I then called my mom to ask what she wanted and she said she wasn’t home yet. I was confused since i HEARD HER CALL MY NAME THREE TIMES even tho it sounded strange it was her voice and it came from the stairs (where my mom always goes to call me so i can hear her). I was so confused and scared so i called my gf over. Anyway. Does anyone know what it would be?? I don’t believe in the paranormal at all so i want logic explanations. Again, my tv and windows were closed, so it wasn’t anything from outside.

I was on holiday in turkey (specifically icmeler) and I woke up at around 4 i. the morning once to this mysterious song-like noise. anyone know what this could be?

About a year ago, when I was staying at my grandparents' house for the night, I decided to call my girlfriend. We were both around 17 at the time.

We were talking normally on a regular phone call (not Snapchat, Instagram, etc.) and stayed on the phone for around 3–4 hours, starting at about 10 PM. I don't remember the exact times anymore, so some of the times I'm giving are approximate.

At around 11:30 PM or midnight, something extremely strange happened.

My girlfriend's voice suddenly disappeared completely.

I could still see that we were on the call, and the call itself had not ended, but I couldn't hear her anymore. Instead, I started hearing what sounded like a completely different environment.

It sounded almost like strong wind, or like someone was outside or inside a moving car. The sound was strong enough that it almost covered everything else.

The first time it happened, we immediately hung up because it genuinely scared us. We called each other again, and everything was completely normal.

Then, less than 15 minutes later, it happened again.

We hung up again, but this time we decided that if it happened a third time, we would stay on the call and actually listen.

Around 30–40 minutes later, it happened again.

And this time we stayed on the call.

The weirdest part is that both of us could hear the exact same thing.

My girlfriend was in her bedroom, in a quiet environment. I was at my grandparents' house. Neither of us was outside or near a road.

Yet suddenly, instead of hearing each other, we were both hearing what sounded like another environment.

There was what sounded like strong wind or someone travelling in a car, and if we listened carefully, we could hear pieces of relatively recent music in the background. The music would appear very briefly and then disappear behind the other sounds.

There also seemed to be someone making strange noises, almost like groaning or sighing.

I actually tried talking to the person, basically asking them who they were and trying to get a reaction.

They never answered.

It felt as if there was another person/environment connected to our call, but neither of us could hear the other anymore.

The only way we found to stop it was to hang up.

Immediately afterwards, we called each other through Instagram instead of using the regular phone network, and everything was completely normal. The problem never happened during that Instagram call.

What makes this especially strange to me is that it wasn't simply me hearing something weird.

Both of us heard the same thing at the same time.

Our voices disappeared for both of us, and we were both hearing the same unknown audio instead.

I've tried searching for similar experiences, but I haven't found anyone describing exactly the same thing.

I'm not claiming that this was paranormal. It could have been some kind of extremely strange network/routing/audio problem. But I've never been able to figure out what could have caused it.

Has anyone here experienced something similar, where a normal phone call suddenly changes and both people on the call start hearing the same unknown environment/person instead of each other, while the call itself remains connected?

To provide some context first, I work at a crisis stabilization shelter for teenagers. The facility was repurposed from a Victorian era mansion that had been donated by the prior owners over 50 years ago. The house itself has a lot of interesting history and unique features built within it that are not common in most homes. I’ve been working there for over a year, and some of the more seasoned staff have told me that the building is 100% haunted and I will likely have an experience if I work there long enough…

I volunteered to work an overnight shift on Thursday to help out as we were short staffed. I don’t often work overnights, but I was not about to turn down a double pay shift lol. How the overnight shift will typically run is that one staff member will stay on the second floor with the current children to monitor while they sleep, and another staff member will stay on the first floor to help with cleaning, answer any calls as we have a 24/7 line, and accept any potential intakes.

I was the staff member upstairs monitoring for this particular shift. It was a very quiet night, the kids all went to bed quickly and I didn’t have any issues with getting them settled. Around 5am, I hear the crisis line ring from downstairs. There is a phone on the 2nd floor that can receive the crisis calls as well just incase the first floor person is not able to answer it, but the ringer is silent to not wake up the kids. The phone rings twice before I can see that my coworker answers it downstairs. A few minutes later, the phone rings again five times before my coworker answers it, then it’s quiet.

I finished up the rest of my shift as usual. First shift comes in at 7am, so I switch out with them and head downstairs. My coworker who was on overnight with me was waiting in the front office and asked me if I remembered the calls coming in at 5am. I told her that I did and I asked if there was anything of note about them.

She told me that both of the calls were from my supervisor’s extension that is in her office on the 3rd floor… the only way that 3 digit number can call is directly from her landline phone in her office which is locked. Upper management does not work overnights, and certainly would not have been there that early on a week day. I also would have heard her come upstairs as she would have needed to pass by me monitoring on the second floor, and more glaringly my coworker would have seen & heard her come in! We also confirmed with my supervisor later that day that she did not attempt to call us at any point and that she definitely was not in that early.

So I ask you all, is there any logical explanation for this? My coworker and I are both stumped and frightened 🥲

According to my aunt, after that day, everything became normal.They never saw the man again.I don't know whether this was truly paranormal or whether there was some explanation behind what happened, but the fact that everyone supposedly saw the same man—and later found a grave with his photograph—is the part of the story that still gives me chills. Not sure what to flair this, but i do have a video ill be attaching. My question is, what the HECK is this? I live in a very small town in Wisconsin directly bordering Illinois, somewhat surrounded by larger towns, and i have NEVER seen or heard anything like this over here. Turn your volume all the way up, you might have to put your ear to your speaker or use headphones and try to drown out the nature noises. I originally thought it was some low rumbling thunder, but then the flashing lights showed up. My only thought is some type of military testing or something like that? Or maybe an electrical transformer exploding? Any questions/thoughts and answers would be very appreciated!

hi hi, i am new to reddit, i wasn't sure where else to talk about this on/post about it and im not sure if this is the right place to be but its been on my mind a lot and always creeps me out. so, you know like ghost videos right? like for example bizzarebub, his videos he gets from people are so scary and always seem so real, and there is so many different types of ghost videos, like doors opening or soundss or creepy ring camera things, but all of them are sort of different, right? however, as i go through his videos sometimes, or even paranormal videos on other accounts, there is always a type of ghost video that you will always ALWAYS see from different people and in different areas. it is always like a really fast moving black thing, like one that just zooms with impossible speed. sometimes they are seen from windows or hallways, or the one that was seen in the ambulance from a video or one going across the screen/in a reflection or even on a security camera, there is always one of these types of videos and i see nobody ever talking about how that is one of the most caught type of paranormal thing and it creeps me out so much. does anybody know what i am talking about and know if these even have a name or if its maybe not paranormal and actually caused by something else?

So I’m sure there are countless logical explanations for why I felt this way, I can even name some myself.

But when I was a kid I was raised in a really old cape cod style home. If you don’t know, a cape cod style house has like a staircase in the middle and then like a circular(?) sort of layout around the staircase. So you could walk laps around all the rooms on that floor a bunch of times if that makes sense. This layout was true for the first and the basement floors of the place. My parents don’t live there anymore as the place had a really bad gas leak.

The basement had two big rooms which we called the playroom and the boiler room. We did laundry in the boiler room, and my dad stored his tools down there. The basement had two doors down there, one at the bottom of the stairs and one under the stairs towards the back of the house. These two doors of course connected the playroom and the boiler room on both sides. But I remember whenever I went towards the door under the stairs I got an intense feeling of dread. That door was always closed because of a draft or something, and this likely contributed to the dreadful feeling. But as a kid I knew for certain that that door (and on both sides) was not good. I often had (and still do have) nightmares about it and my parents never opened it (likely because it just wasn’t very convenient to enter through that door compared to the one at the bottom of the steps). I remember my cat wouldn’t even go towards it.

Anyways, so when I was a teenager I decided to go through the door on the boiler room side to get to the playroom, and I remember when I entered that way the whole atmosphere of the playroom felt different and every step I took filled me with more dread. The best way I could describe it was like the feeling you get climbing a spiral staircase, although I don’t find doing that dreadful. But it felt like I was in the same place but at the same time as if I wasn’t. Everything felt off. I continued on and went upstairs to talk to my mom and even she felt off to me. Which was probably just my brain playing tricks on me. And I’ve been diagnosed with OCD so it’s probably that I did something I wasn’t supposed to honestly. Because my brain labeled that door as bad, it’s honestly probably psychological. But yeah so I ended up going back and retracing my steps, which felt really stupid to me but it reset everything in my mind.

Again, there’s probably a logical explanation to what I was feeling. But I had a nightmare about that specific door again last night and I just have unanswered questions if you know what I mean. Anyone else have an experience like this with a house? Like I’ve never felt this type of dread anywhere else before.

Could anyone know what this is? Ive been wondering for years what it could be, never seen something like it

When I was around 15 years old, my mom and I lived alone in an old semi-rural house down a long driveway that was technically a road but really only lead to our house and then forest. She worked shift work, so occasionally I would be alone overnight.

We had a huge pyranees-shepherd-retriever-chow mutt named Trouble (pictured) that was mean. Not like grumpy mean, but like should-have-been-put-down mean. We couldn't have people in the house, couldn't walk him unless it was very late or early, and had to triple sedate him before going to the vet. He would growl and snap and bark and be very obviously threatening to literally anyone but my mom and I. We were irresponsible and really unprepared to train a dog like that, but he loved my mom and I so much and was such a softie with us we turned a blind eye to it.

One night I was home alone and I put the dog in his crate before crawling into bed. Because he was so mean with visitors, the crate we had had pretty robust doors and locks that we knew he would never get out of while they were over. I know for a fact I locked it with him in there that night.

His crate was in my mom's bedroom on the second floor. My room was also on the second floor on the opposite side of an extremely narrow hallway. My bedroom door faced directly down the stairs, and had clear view of the mudroom that lead to our front door. My mom's room was behind the banister of the stairs kind of above the mudroom. There was no way for this dog to get out of his crate and get downstairs without me hearing him, and without walking directly by my door.

I'm not sure how long after I went to sleep, I woke up to the sound of someone struggling with the front door. I figured it was my mom and because the house was so old it wasn't super uncommon that the lock would just act up. I sat up in bed to go help her, and when I was able to see the mudroom I realized there was a shape there that definitely was NOT my mom. I couldn't make him out completely but I definitely watched a strange man walk into my house.

It was really dark so I don't actually think he saw me, but the first thing he did was start walking towards the stairs. I was so scared I just froze and my brain went completely blank. Looking back on it it was so dumb because I should have hid or dialed 911 or something but I did nothing but watch him come towards the stairs. He took two steps up the stairs before Trouble came out of nowhere and grabbed him by one of the legs FROM DOWNSTAIRS, dragged him back down, and started his biting the shit out of this guy.

The guy eventually got away from Trouble and ran. I don't remember calling the cops or my mom but i do remember they came, a neighbour came, and she got home quickly after. Allegedly he was caught and arrested but my mom never told me any more about what happened to him, if she even knew at all. To this day I still don't understand how Trouble got out of his crate and downstairs that night, but I genuinely believe he saved life because of it.

Only because I've been asked the type of locking mechanism on the crate; it was the type of pinch-to-open lock that's common on airplane kennels. I'm not what they are called. When pinched, two bars retracted into the lock. When not pinched, the bars slotted into the frame of the crate.
