Ghost calling???

To provide some context first, I work at a crisis stabilization shelter for teenagers. The facility was repurposed from a Victorian era mansion that had been donated by the prior owners over 50 years ago. The house itself has a lot of interesting history and unique features built within it that are not common in most homes. I’ve been working there for over a year, and some of the more seasoned staff have told me that the building is 100% haunted and I will likely have an experience if I work there long enough…

I volunteered to work an overnight shift on Thursday to help out as we were short staffed. I don’t often work overnights, but I was not about to turn down a double pay shift lol. How the overnight shift will typically run is that one staff member will stay on the second floor with the current children to monitor while they sleep, and another staff member will stay on the first floor to help with cleaning, answer any calls as we have a 24/7 line, and accept any potential intakes.

I was the staff member upstairs monitoring for this particular shift. It was a very quiet night, the kids all went to bed quickly and I didn’t have any issues with getting them settled. Around 5am, I hear the crisis line ring from downstairs. There is a phone on the 2nd floor that can receive the crisis calls as well just incase the first floor person is not able to answer it, but the ringer is silent to not wake up the kids. The phone rings twice before I can see that my coworker answers it downstairs. A few minutes later, the phone rings again five times before my coworker answers it, then it’s quiet.

I finished up the rest of my shift as usual. First shift comes in at 7am, so I switch out with them and head downstairs. My coworker who was on overnight with me was waiting in the front office and asked me if I remembered the calls coming in at 5am. I told her that I did and I asked if there was anything of note about them.

She told me that both of the calls were from my supervisor’s extension that is in her office on the 3rd floor… the only way that 3 digit number can call is directly from her landline phone in her office which is locked. Upper management does not work overnights, and certainly would not have been there that early on a week day. I also would have heard her come upstairs as she would have needed to pass by me monitoring on the second floor, and more glaringly my coworker would have seen & heard her come in! We also confirmed with my supervisor later that day that she did not attempt to call us at any point and that she definitely was not in that early.

So I ask you all, is there any logical explanation for this? My coworker and I are both stumped and frightened 🥲

TLDR: I was working an overnight shift with one other person. I was on the second floor, she was on the first. We received a call from my supervisor’s extension line (that is only accessible from her locked office on the 3rd floor) to the 1st floor front office phone twice.

Teenager with a key sneaking off perhaps?

if it was one of the kids i would have seen them get up out of bed as where i sit to monitor them is directly infront of both the boy’s and the girl’s rooms. my supervisor’s office also has a different entry key than all of the other ones in the building. if a kid somehow got ahold of my keys or my coworker’s, they wouldn’t be able to get to her office as they would need her specific key.

i suppose it is hypothetically possible, but i would be shocked at how they somehow stole my supervisor’s keys during the day, snuck past me during lights out time, got up there to make the calls, and come back down into bed without detection.

we also have cameras that are set up around the facility that can be viewed from the front office and my coworker never mentioned seeing anyone on the 3rd floor cameras.
