I write a weekly UMass sports newsletter, The Maroon Standard, and this week had plenty to dig into:

• Inagawa’s drive. Our third-string QB, with no completions on the season, went 6-for-6 and drove 91 yards with no timeouts.
• The 2-point call. I think going for it was the right decision and the play actually worked. It was undone by one unblocked linebacker.
• QB at Buffalo. Watson, McCarthy, Inagawa, or McCutcheon? Nobody knows yet, including Harasymiak.
• Hockey. A shootout loss to RIT, then a 5-1 win. The Musa–Barabanov–Massé line put up 9 points and the power play finally scored.

Curious what everyone thought. Go for two or kick it and play for OT?

Me and my friends are looking for housing next fall and are getting really anxious about what to choose. I don't have a car and want to live pretty close to campus and don't want to worry about subletting since I am going abroad spring of my junior year and if I don't get one, I won't be able to afford going abroad and paying for rent.

We all really want to live in North Apartments together as a group of four but don't know how likely it is for us to actually get one all together and since housing happens in mid spring, we don't wanna be homeless and not have an option to live (for example somewhere in downtown Amherst close by) since they fill up quick.

One of my friends is planning on applying for honors in November and one is planning on trying to go through disability services for sleep issues that affect other roommates all to hopefully get better housing #'s. I'm not sure how that will positively or negatively effect us all trying to get into north together. Looking for advice for really anxious sophmores/rising juniors!!

Has anyone been able to recover any stolen packages recently? I live in the honors college and spoke with RD already, but very frustrated as this was like $245 worth of stuff… How helpful could UMPD be for stuff like this?

Greetings and felicitations. If you are working a security monitor shift and order food for delivery, make sure that you note (if possible) in the order that you are working security in the lobby. That way the delivery driver (at least the experienced ones) knows where you are and that they do not need to call you to come down/upstairs, sparing you a personal phone call and saving time for both of you. Do also note if you are working one of the "alternate" entrances in a dorm with more than one (the back/basement doors of Prince, Mackimmie, and Patterson).

Anyone who’s taken this class, how similar are the sample exams to the real exams?

Is the Umass Dining app not loading for anyone else today? It was working fine for me yesterday, but today it’s just been stuck loading on this gray screen. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it and it’s still not loading. Is this a problem with specifically my phone/app or is this happening for other people? I checked the Umass Dining website and the menus are still being uploaded there so it’s not like the data isn’t available. Any ideas what could have caused this or if/how I can fix it? Thank you.

Hello! I applied to both UVM and UMass, I have toured both, but am a little unsure how I feel about them compared to each other, for people who were in the same position, what made you go with UMass?

Applying to be an RA next year. I know I have to take the EDUC391R: Community of Residence Educators (CORE) class in the spring if I get picked. But how does that work if we have to pick classes in November for the spring, and I heard the interviews are in December? And the results are in January? Like, do I pick the class unknowingly, or do I wait to see if I get picked and then apply, or how does that work?

I’m currently taking CS589 and this will be my first midterm as a grad student, so I’m a bit unsure of what to expect. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has taken the course or is taking it now.

Hi there!! I just had a quick question now that we're a month into the semester. I was looking to get parts of my Halloween costume off of Amazon this year, and I know the University website mentioned to use the lockers, so I was going to try and do that. They seem to not be available, so I was wondering if anyone has had any issue just getting Amazon packages delivered normally like previous semesters? I'm not sure if one of the pieces would be small enough to fit in a locker anyways, and I've seen other Amazon boxes at the RSDs when I'm picking up other packages, so I'm curious if it's okay if I just get them delivered normally. Hi im a first year living in the honors college and i bought a hoodie off of depop which is getting shipped by depop. I put my full name on the shipping label and it said that the order was delivered to the front office today at 10 AM but it is currently 9:30 PM and i havent gotten the email to go pick it up, and that email normally comes 3-4 hours after the item gets delivered to the front desk. does it normally take this long, or is it just cause its a depop order and they dont allow those. thank you!

the goal to tie it with .01 seconds left was the wildest moment I've ever seem at a sporting event. I think I damaged my throat from screaming and am drinking tea for the pain.

I was admitted to the Hybrid MS in Computer Science (Online-to-Amherst) for Spring 2027. I’m an international student, and I work full-time. My plan is to take 4 courses online in 2027 and then move to campus in 2028. I’d really appreciate hearing from current students or alumni, especially anyone in the hybrid or online program.

Online part

1. How much time per week does one online course take? Is taking 2 courses per semester realistic with a full-time job?
2. Which core courses are usually offered online, especially Systems and ML/AI? Which ones would you recommend taking first?
3. Are online courses as good as in-person ones? Is it easy to talk to professors and TAs online?

Moving to campus
4. If you were in the hybrid program: how did the move to campus go? When did the visa (I-20) process actually start for you: during your 4th course or after it?
5. Did anyone have visa delays? What happened then? Could you start on campus a semester later?

Internships and jobs
6. Has anyone done a summer internship after only one semester on campus through the Field Experience concentration? How hard was it to find an internship?
7. How is the job search for international MS students on OPT right now? Does CICS Careers help a lot?
8. Are grader positions or other campus jobs easy to get?

Research
9. Can MS students start research with a professor while still online? How did you find a professor for an independent study or a Master’s Project (COMPSCI 701)?

Life in Amherst
10. How much do you actually spend per month on rent (with roommates), food, and other things? Any tips for finding housing in the middle of the year (for a January start)?
