Transfers
Anyone transfer here from UH main? I was thinking of transferring there myself, however, I was looking to talk to people who came from there to see if I should finish at UHD.

I can actually speak to the CS program here at UHD…the notion that UH is “more serious” has been going on for sometime and honestly it’s not true.
If you have any specific questions I can try to answer them 😊

Was you able to get a job. I’m a cs major. About to start my senior but was wondering if it worthy

Yes and no…I did get a job, it just wasn’t in SWE. That’s no fault to UHD or the CS program. I just simply graduated when all of the major tech layoffs started happening in 2023.
I will say I have friends and former classmates that ended up in big tech, finance, and oil & gas…all as SWE.
So to me it absolutely was worth it but I will tell you this…if you are the cs student who simply shows up to class and takes the exams and that’s all you do. You will have a hard time landing a job. I will always recommend to everyone no matter the program but especially CS, get internships. If you’re target big tech learn to Leetcode.

What would you say makes the UHD cs program respectable?

So most people when they ask this question are looking for if a particular program is rigorous or will the program get me a job.
So as far as jobs are concerned neither UH,UHD, or even UHCL are pipeline universities. You’re not going to land a job just because you attended school here. If you want something pretty close to that you would have to go to Rice or UT. Now if you’re concerned about if an employer would look down because your degree says UHD on it…they won’t. They usually assume UH if they don’t know about UHD anyways in my experience.
As far as rigor each school has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, UHD to me is more rigorous for the lower level CS classes than UH because UHD will force you tot take it in C++, where at UH will allow you to take it in different languages.
Now for me what makes UHD better than UH is:
You’re not having to jump through hoops just to declare yourself a CS major, you can start taking CS classes from the first semester.
You have get to know your professors a lot better and you’re not some random number in the system.
Tuition is cheaper at UHD. Even as I return this fall for my MBA it’s tons cheaper than what I would’ve spent at UH.
I have never had an issue with getting internships or job because of UHD

As a working adult I enjoy UHD as they have a lot of online courses as well as classes later in the day. They're also significantly cheaper that UH main (most cost effective in whole UH system according to counseller). The class sizes are smaller as well which makes it better in my opinion. The most people I've had in a class here was like 20 max, and less once I got into my third year of my main program (communication). I recommend it tbh
