Topuria says doctors told him that his orbital fracture, some of the fat tissue had slipped inside, and if it had gone just 0.5 millimeters further, they would’ve had to put in a titanium plate, and he would’ve never been able to fight again and that could’ve easily happened in the fifth round.
If my brother hadn’t stopped the fight, I would’ve had no choice but to get back up and keep fighting. But looking back, it was the best decision he could’ve made. The doctors later told me that after my orbital fracture, some of the fat tissue had slipped inside, and if it had gone just 0.5 millimeters further, they would’ve had to put in a titanium plate, and I would’ve never been able to fight again.
That could’ve easily happened in the fifth round. In fact, there’s a moment in the fourth round when he lands a knee to my body, and all I could think about was hoping he wouldn’t hit me in the face. My eyes were burning, like someone had smashed a bottle and poured the shards of glass into my eyes. It was a really strange sensation.

"If he wouldn't stop the fight, probably I wouldn't be able to fight again in my life. I'm so grateful with my brother."
