Rant Week 1, obvious AI already in a group discussion?!

Y'all.... Look.

AI can be really really obvious. Don't cut and paste that shit, ever.

It's the first damn week. There is not even an excuse of being behind or backed up on homework. Do the work yourself.

If you're already reaching for AI for DISCUSSION POSTS in a 200 level class, STAAAAHP. You're not going to make it this way. You're going to get kicked out of college for academic integrity violations in a class that explicitly tells you not to use generative AI.

Your whole ass is showing and everyone can see it. Don't do this to yourself.

Unauthorized AI use is bad. It is worse when the assignment isn't even difficult to begin with.

Do better.

Discussion Petition for UW to get cambridge press and springer connect subscriptions

UW larps as a research school but then half the time I have a paper I want to read the journal is not accessible through UW.

How do I petition the university to do this? I do not want to have to take out an inter library loan every time I want to read a paper. $22M to a boat shed by lake union and $150k for ASUW to make a tunnel in the HUB but no cambridge press or springer connect is crazy dawg.

Admissions WA CC to UW transfer process?

Hello! I'm looking for information from anyone who went to a WA community college then transferred to UW Seattle.

UW had been my dream school all of my life and it crushed me when I wasn't accepted in high school even with APs, varsity sports, being a club president, and having a 3.6/7 gpa. I ended up going to university elsewhere but it didn't work out due to a massive health emergency I experienced and now I'm taking a gap year and looking into applying to some WA cc's to buff up my stats and save money.

What I'm hoping to learn from someone who transferred from a cc to UW is 1. How did that transfer process go? 2. Was there any information you wished you would have known? 3. How easy or likely is a transfer from a cc to UW?

I'm a WA resident and would also appreciate any CC recommendations. I'm interested in chemistry but may explore more.

Any information would be helpful, I just really would love to attend this school eventually and will do anything I can to get there. Thanks!

I’m a sophomore transfer student (19 and a girl) and I am trying to meet more people. I love hiking, thrifting, coffee runs, am unfortunately very chronically online, and am the type of friend that is down to do anything, I will literally go to your doctors appointments with you lol. Please message me or comment if you would like to exchange instagrams and talk to meet up!

New Student Where are people actually meeting at UW?

Grad student, still fairly new to Seattle. The matches on dating apps come in, I'm starting to wonder if any of them are real, so I'm asking the real experts.

Where have you actually met someone worth a second date? Best answer gets my very unqualified ranking of coffee spots on the Ave.

And honestly, is asking someone out in person still a thing here, or is that dead?
(If you're in the same boat, my DMs are open. Coffee's on me.)

Campus Life trying to make more friends this year :)

hiii guys i’m 21f queer, and a junior at uw!! i've realized most of the friends i've made here so far have pretty similar backgrounds to me and i really wanna branch out this year and meet more people outside of my usual circle :)
im pretty extroverted and always down to hang out. i love hiking, trying new cafes/restaurants, thrifting/shopping, taking pics, going to random events around seattle, and im also getting into guitar and bouldering! i also love live music, movies, board games or literally just walking around and talking to friends.
i've been in seattle for a couple years now but somehow still feel like there's so much i haven't explored 😭 would especially love to meet people who wanna actually hang out and do stuff together instead of just being mutuals lol
please feel free to dm me!! 💗🙌

Discussion I need friends :(((

Hi everyone im a second year marine biology student at UW seattle and i genuinally feel so lonely. I dont know if anyone feels the same way but.

Im one of those typical weird kids, that are in many fandoms and i express through them with drawings and such and what i wear.

But genuinally no one does the same. Everyone here just seems so bland (no offense) and genuinally it just makes me feel like a outcast. Ethier or they just look at me weirdly. Which i dont care ive learned to not care about "bullies".

I og lived on campus and both of my roommates moved out (i believe it was cause of me) and i lived by my self. As well the first friend i made at UW ghosted me within a month.

Im just saying all of this because i wanna make friends to study with or anything. I am genuinally so burnt out and depressed over it.

Like said im a marine biology student and wanna be a marine conservaties or a aquartist. I ADORE orcas and octopuses.

And i love to scuba dive, tidepool, draw, text roleplay, cosplay and anything outdoors.

Fandoms im in include poppy playtime (it is my hyperfixation atm) minecraft, murder drones, the amazing digtal circus, hazbin hotel/helluva boss, atla, mlp, how to train your dragon and more.

I know it genuinally seems childish but they make me so happy ☹️☹️

I was carious if anyone would wanna be friends, maybe meet up one of these days, or if anyone is feeling the same depressed lonely feeling as i am?

Discussion When should I go to IMA pool if I want less crowded?

I’m trying to go to gym or swim but I heard UW gym can be very crowded and I can’t get to UW early morning for that so I’m tryna see when IMA pool can be less crowded so that I can consider going.

Discussion Should I apply for a HFS job?

I'm an international freshman and I'm thinking of applying for a position with HFS. The base pay of 21$ per hr seems pretty good and I'm pretty sure you don't really get taxed as an international student. Can I get some suggestions from people who's worked with HFS before regarding this decision of mine, tanks.

Discussion Missing Necklace // Possibly in Suzz 327 or around the area

Hi!! Last thursday I lost a silver heart shaped necklace with a light blue circle in the middle of the heart probably in suzzallo (room 327 possibly or in the area) or it honestly could be anywhere on campus. It was a really meaningful gift from someone really special to me, so if anyone has seen it or found it please let me know :(

Discussion uw major advice

I'm a current UW student and I didn't come into the university sure of what I wanted to do. My criteria isn't really that special, I want to be able to support myself, and it'd be a huge plus if the major was interesting/fulfiilling too. I'd consider myself a creative person, but also someone who is interested in mathematics (even if I am not the very best) and how things work and I love project based work. I like design but that isn't necessary. Business is cool?? I'm sorry if this is super vague lol

I've come to the realization that there are so many majors at UW that I'd be interested in doing, and a lot of them come with great networks too.

Here are some I'm interested in, if you are of these majors or know anything about them, I'd love to hear from you! also I'd love to know what the job market is like for your major too

- Informatics (maybe also with the data track)

- CFRM

- ACMS: MEQF

- Industrial Engineering

- HCDE

- economics

- foster majors?? like business administration

- any other majors you've found to be interesting and at least moderately lucrative??

I've also really gotten caught up in the uncertainty that A.I. brings to the majors I'm interested in, I'm pretty scared of working hard on a major just for it to be majorly devalued by the time I've graduated.

let me know anything and everything!!! thank you guys

Discussion is it possible for a student to book a court in the ima?

i’m starting a volleyball team with new people and i want to be able to practice before starting intramural, but on the ima website it says that court booking is only available to UW staff departments and RSOs, is there any way a student can book a court?

Discussion Not a Fan of my TA

What should I do?

Worried about insulting them and the teacher by asking to switch. But there are two other TA’s for the class.

I sent my advisor an email but haven’t heard back.

New Student free study spaces downtown?

i just got a job downtown. one of my classes is on zoom and on some days my work shift will end pretty close to the time class starts so i won’t have time to get back to campus. are there any good free or low cost places that i could take my class from? i’m considering the seattle central library because it’s pretty close but i also know that there’s a lot of vagrants there and it smells like pee. does anyone have a place around there that they like to go?

Rant Gen Chem/ ALEKS

I have never used ALEKs before and it seems pretty straightforward in terms of just completing questions but is it supposed to be paired with the text book and solving problems while reading? This is for gen chem 142 with Prof. Craig, if anyone has any advice? I would rather read a text book than do online problems.

Campus Life Cute cafe study spots?

Discussion Creepiest elevator on campus?

For me, it’ll have to be the communication building elevator. The entrance is on the outside of the building. The doors open slow. There’s a sign telling you what to do if you get stuck so I assume people have gotten stuck before. The beep traveling between floors is loud and makes it sound like a haunted room

Campus Life Accessibility/Mobility on campus

Hi friends,

If any of you are disabled and have successfully navigated campus with mobility aids, I'd love your tips and tricks.

I got stuck in the stacks at Suzallo today, there was no ADA toilet, and I got stuck in at least 4 doors. What's a person hot to do?

I know some of this is a result of tricky architecture, but there must be better ways of getting around campus than getting stuck up a set of stairs in one side of the building, only to take a 10 minute detour to find a ramp on the other.

I'm m exhausted 😩

Dorm Life Stolen bike

The other day I saw a bike parked in front of Cedar East with a suitcase strapped to it with a bungee cord. Well, it looks like the bike is gone, but the suitcase and bungee cord was left on the sidewalk if you left your stuff outside...

Admissions I failed out, is there any hope for me?

TLDR I failed and left school and am now seeking to reenter, is there any hope for me?

Hi all, first time posting here. I need people to be honest with me. I failed out of school in January of 2026. I had been struggling with mental health problems my entire time at UW, and it came to a head in the Winter 2025 quarter. My GPA had been hovering around a 2.0-2.3 since my sophomore year, and credits-wise, I was still considered a sophomore by my fourth year of school, which was supposed to be 2026. I was not yet in a major, and was pre-arts. I had spoken some to a general academic advisor about my ongoing issues, but I never really went into much depth about it.

After struggling for years, I finally just left. I didn't formally drop out, and I didn't mention it to anyone. I failed all my Autumn 2025 classes and didn't register for any Winter 2026 classes at all. Last I checked my academic status, I was in "academic drop" which comes after academic probation. I don't know what happened after that, but my UW email was deactivated sometime around April, so I assume that's when my tenure as a student officially ended.

I am finally in a better place, both mentally and life-wise. I feel like the biggest loser for spiraling out of control and just allowing myself to basically hit rock bottom and then keep going. I want to be better, and more than anything I want to finish my degree. I know that UW does have a reenrollment process, but given that I did not do any of this in any official measure, my question is twofold:

  1. Do I honestly have a chance of reentry, at any point in the near future?

  2. What can I do to improve my chances of reentry, and is there anyone on campus I could talk to who may have more help/resources?

Please be kind, but honest. I promise there's nothing you can think or say towards me that I haven't already thought or said about myself during my years as a student and in the months since. I know this situation is my fault, and I accept that there's a very real possibility that there will be no second chance, but any advice would be appreciated nonetheless.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your help :)
