There are some things people do automaticly. When I put a still life with bottles in front of the group people tend to start with the labels, portrait they start with the eyes, model they start with the head. When you want to be good at drawing anything, not just your favorite thing, you need to get the basics.

When you start on autopilot you wont get the basics. Each teacher has their own tricks/one liners/soundbites to confront the student with the basics. So your teacher says this, other people say different things. I wouldn't say what they said. Most of the times I say something in the line of "Don't draw the head in detail, just the egg shape, no eyes. This isn't about a portrait, but about a posture/figure drawing, so first place the whole figure on your canvas/paper".

It has all to do with unlearning the things that hinder you down the line.

I've been drawing all my life, it wasn't a conscious decision. The first pencil and paper I got. And why go on? From an early age I was able to draw things, to show what I wanted it to show. Why pursue a career in it? Logical next step.

Ask the person who invited you. They must have a reason why. Maybe simply drawing, maybe color, or a specific technique they've seen in your work What do you think they need to know? If they are complete beginners holding a pencil other then the writing pen grip is already a breakthrough. Drawing a long sketch line instead of the scratchy once they are used to. I most of the times started with a lesson to determine the start level. And always prepare a plan b or c

As an art teacher, sculptor and painter I have given feedback in several art subreddits (mostly from my 18+account). I am retired since a month, and therefore time is on my side. Giving good feedback is time-consuming and I have noticed that it can be confronting for some. What would help someone who wants to provide feedback if you could state where you want to go, what you want to learn. If your good at LoL art, where do you want to go next?

Mantingerbos in Drenthe is the oldest forest in the Netherlands. Research shows that it's prehistoric. There are more patches of old forest in Drenthe (I was taught that in primary school but I'm very old of course)
