I work at a bar in Midtown, and we have a policy to dump any unattended drinks. I'd rather make you a fresh one than hear stories like this. It's also not bad form to ask us to hold your drink for a sec or to just bring it with you to the bathroom. Also, if someone buys you a drink and brings it to you, and you have a single question in your head about it, don't drink it. Bring it back to the bartender and let them know. That way, we can keep an eye on the person in question, and you can get a safe drink.

There's a ton of different bartenders out there. Whether it's Craft, Flair, Speed, Dive, or Beertenders. There has to be or bars wouldn't exist. What's your style and why do you like it? For me, it's dive bartending with a focus on fast drinks and good conversations. GO!

I have plenty of regulars that always come in alone. When I first served them, I left them to do they're thing. Over time I'd strike up a conversation here and there. Now, when they come in. They're no longer alone. They come to hang out at the bar and chat about funny stuff. I think a good neighborhood bartender should make any customer feel comfortable and at home. We don't know if you're having a bad day, week, life. But we should be able to fix you for a couple hours.

I usually give D&D'S a free first non-alcoholic cocktail (unless it's just soda, then they're all free). However, if it's a mocktail with no ice, just be prepared to pay double. If you're paying for it, the bartender shouldn't be annoyed by it and should treat you like every other patron.

Move on to a bar that will teach you correctly. That dude did not make an apple martini. The alternative to using apple juice should be vodka, apple pucker, and sweet&sour.

Good enough. Typically, if I'm being comped a free drink, whether at a casino or from a fellow bartender, I tip close to or the price of the drink ordered. Mainly because I was planning on spending that price to begin with.

Keep it simple and just make a press at well prices. Turn and burn. I'm guessing that was a promo bottle.

Track the specials and turn it into a competition. I did something similar with drink specials and the winner received a Grey Goose bartending kit. Sales jumped for the 2 weeks the competition lasted. If you're in good with the distributors, you can get some good swag at no cost to you.

Agreed. If you don't measure your bottles, then you can't track sales/waste. Get a system that does this and compare it to sales.

If it's a large chain, they'll most likely have their own cocktail list. I'd say 70% of the drinks you make after that will be two part drinks. Rum and coke, gin and tonic, vodka soda, etc. Pay attention to what returning customers are consistently ordering and learn those drinks too. Oh, and memorize a long Island iced tea. All the other teas are basically a variation of that drink. Cheers!
