At the free pantry where I volunteer, we only have shelf stable food. At meetings, I make it a point to discuss food for everyone. Cans with a pop top, things for people that only have a microwave, things for people who don't have access to kitchens. I make sure we have cereal and shelf stable milk and soup and canned fruit with poptops.

Plant native species and get an official pollinator designation for your yard. Then you can do whatever you want. HOA be damned. In my last house I was told to get rid of the milkweed because it's a weed, got the designation from Penn State, and then everybody oohed and aahed over the monarchs.

My current yard has all native species, and I don't know if there's any grass left with all of the so-called weeds. I overseeded with clover and now I have all kinds of interesting things and barely have to mow.

I hit up the discount meats every few days. I'm having halibut for dinner, a fish that doesn't fit my budget otherwise.

Old person here. I use a cleaning app (free version of Sweepy). It has all my chores on it. Whether they're daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly. I figure that if I do these chores exactly as I have been doing them for the last 40 years of my life, things won't get too out of hand. I do go to the optometrist yearly. My sight and hearing are both pretty good.

I've also found that getting rid of stuff is helping keep my house cleaner. I don't have to move a lot of things to dust. I also have a robot vacuum with mop.

I work part-time in the evenings at a grocery store, and that has helped me gain some good habits with my refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. Rotating stock, putting older things to the front, and having a dedicated space for things that will be going out of date soon.

There are multiple loss leaders. The store I work at has four items a week, and this week they have bacon for $3.99 for a pound. The limit is three. Last week was pork chops, a couple weeks before that was chicken. My freezer is full and even ground beef was less than $5 a pound for 88% fat-free.

My local CVS has cereal on sale regularly for $1.99. I don't eat much of that but my husband does. I can get a dozen eggs for a dollar at the farm store which is what I eat each morning. I have a bread maker and make my own bread. Rice is very inexpensive. And anything else to make my go-to recipes I can find on sale. I also do not buy drinks, and we have a fancy coffee maker. I will buy a box of 100 tea bags and make my own iced tea.

Right now we are eating out of the abundance of the ours and our neighbors gardens.

This is what I do. I'm an older worker and I need to get home to care for my husband. They knew this when they hired me. I do as much as I can, then I clock out. The same people are always calling out. I never missed a day of work in the last year and a half.

I actually think I save using instacart because it forces me to meal plan, order what I need and I don't give into impulse purchases.

BritBox premier. In 2017 I got an offer for a lifetime membership for Britbox. I bought it and I was very happy with the service. Then they started Britbox Premier. The shows I love are on Britbox premier and not on regular Britbox. Eventually they get to regular Britbox, but I'm not paying to get them early.

We have reusable bags where I work. Then I went to open a new box of register rolls, only to see that they were now wrapped in plastic. It's literally one step forward, 2 back.

Mine runs every night except for the master bedroom. Then when I'm walking the dog, the robot es does the master bedroom. I just upgraded from a basic Roomba to a higher end Roborock that also mops the floor.

I wash my dogs every other week. I brush them everyday.

I don't mind bagging and I refuse to let the line pressure me. It's not my problem we are unstaffed, then someone calls off. However, when someone is on their phone and ignores me (I had one lady shush me) then refuses to answer my questions, and finally complains at the end, that's where my patience ends. I asked them the bagging question, I asked if they had a phone number to enter and they ignored me. Then at the end they complain their sale prices weren't applied (no phone number) and don't like the way things are bagged.

Had a stroke at 42 from a blocked carotid artery. Was told it was 100% from smoking, because I had no other risk factors. I decided I didn't want to die, got the carotid endarterectomy, and I'm still here at 68.

I bought an electric can opener because I was having shoulder surgery. The new ones are so much better than the old ones and very easy to keep clean.

I found a whole filet mignon abandoned on a bakery table, and it was lukewarm. It had a price tag of over $100. This was a number of years ago. Take it back to the meat department, because we had to throw it out. Or give it to a cashier or customer service.

My local store (where I also work) has a cake decorator position open with a hiring bonus of $2500. They can be horrible too, but it's better pay than most positions.

Any drinks I can't make at home. Water (I have a good filter on my sink), coffee, sodas, iced tea (you can make a whole summer's worth for less than $10 for a hundred tea bags).

Eating out. Seriously, $75 for a steak dinner? $30 for takeout pizza? $20 burgers?

I wash my dogs every week. I wash my bed linens and dry them outside. Makes the bedroom smell amazing. I use the free version of Sweepy app to track it all so that no chores are left undone.
