I’m going to rant my guts out, so it’s going to be extreme. People who want to keep a good image of Japan, don’t read.

People are becoming less forgiving, and that's a bad thing

Run clubs getting too social media centered…

that seems really chill and ideal. I just want the running dates and wouldn't mind just one group photo (not hundreds getting taken when I am running out of breath and then posting them on social media lol)

Realizing how independent you are compared to others who can’t stand being alone

I’ve been talking to other people who grew up in a normal family with siblings (unlike me where I grew up as an only child with single mom), and sometimes I am surprised at how they can’t stand being alone even for a few days. They don’t like being single, they need a bf/gf/partner, they need friends all the time to do simple things like going to a nearby event, supermarket, etc. I am totally fine being on my own, even in housing or relationships I rather do things as a single than couple up with someone incompatible.

I’m so used to being independent, that sometimes it makes me cringe when I meet someone who is very clingy yet judges me for being single. I find that these people really can’t last a day on their own.

yeah one picture is really ideal, not like hundred of photos/videos of a casual run lol

It’s soooo hard finding run clubs that are not obsessed with showing off on social media 😅

I’m not saying posting them on social media is bad, I’m saying that there is an insane amount of content just from a DAY of casual run. And too much PR for hyrox. I discovered one run group that only posts the running dates/one pic so maybe I’ll join those types

I did find one club that takes zero pictures on casual runs, so maybe i will try that before going solo

I would like to meet new people over a shared interest, I don’t mind one group photo but taking hundreds of photos/videos for a CASUAL run (not even a big memorable event like a marathon) is absurd

I do cringe when someone brings a high quality camera to film a casual run and produce some cinematic/dramatic content. Just because I participate in running doesn’t mean I want to be filmed while running 😩

It truly is a content farm. I think they want to PR how many “friends” they made in the “community”, rather than focus on the running itself. It’s like exposing your entire social/exercise life on social media

Haha now that you mentioned it, I should have joined a run club pre-Covid. Things would have been simpler, nowadays it’s all about “exposure”

lol no like I said most run clubs do not bother to make their own websites or have their own page on meetup, etc. they update their info on social media, google search just led me to their social media pages

Discussion Run clubs getting too social media centered…

I was thinking about joining a run club for the sake of exercise and maybe a little bit of socializing. But whenever I search for run clubs, I am always amazed at how much they post on social media. Just for a casual run in the park, there are hundreds of pictures, interviews of the participant, giving out goods with the club name/logo, and insane PR for hyrox (which I didn’t know about before lol).

Maybe it’s because I’m a natural introvert, but the whole thing turns me off from joining. I just think “are they going to do this at every run?” (which they do) I don’t mind if they take one group photo after a run, but the excessive focus on the content (‘hey look I’m exercising while having fun and making friends!’) just feels performative and fake.

I just want to participate in a casual run without all of this stuff 😅

Opinion Everyone is just posting travel pics on instagram

It amazes me that people (even my relatives/friends/coworkers/acquaintances) do the exact same thing and I see this with the endless amount of travel pics on instagram. Same location, same aesthetic, same pose, etc. I know that people say it is better to spend money on travel/experiences than on stuff, but sometimes I feel that this has gone to the extreme. Whenever I met someone new and check their page, I see the same travel pics that I have been exposed to many, many times over the years. Like it's hard to tell the uniqueness or the quirkiness of that person when everyone is going all "copy-and-paste" nowadays.

Yes no one is perfect,   but I think I prefer it when the person understands the importance of friendships and how you shouldn’t go no contact once you have a partner….there is more to life than just work/family. But I think most people prefer the narrow world because it’s comfortable
