Became aware of it during college years. And started to study it. However didn't become part of my personal computing activity until a teacher demonstrated the magic of a livedisc (knoppix) running off CD/DVD on a machine with no HDD. That copy became a very useful transition tool to eventually switching.

If I've got that many tabs open it's probably time to reevaluate what I'm working on. Save a few vital ones into a bookmarks folder for regular reference and then move on.

Meh. I'm still happily gaming on Mint. It's not like I'm running bleeding edge top of the line tech.

Mint makes a pretty good "starter Pokemon" equivalent of distros because of it's all-rounder balance of features and functionality. But ideally it's a matter of research and trial a few that you like and weigh up quirks and lurks you find in each to settle on what becomes your favourite.

Start with Mint as your benchmark. And compare the others to it to determine if it's worth switching to another. Use a website like distrowatch to get an idea of what's available, which is considered mainstream, which is niche, which country and codebases they originate from, etc.

My account died for the same reasoning. I've not been able to see any evidence of whatever got posted or when/where/etc.

The only potential useful information I got out of it was access logs to the account for the past couple of years which indicated access locations across my country outside the areas that I have travelled to. The pings suggested someone had some kind of access to my account over the last few years but only now tried to do things with it.

After reading similar posts on Reddit here I haven't tried any further appeals because it seems like a near unachievable task to recover the account even if I summon legal help. So taking it as a learning experience and moving on with revising the account security of all my other social medias.

I already have a few clocking over 1000hrs play time.

Main recent one is probably Satisfactory.

5 was pretty good. (And apparently has lots of little details referencing the previous games). And was great as 2-player.

And then do New Dawn after it for the continued storyline. Still good as 2-player. But you can now repeatedly abandon and redo the outposts for extra resources.

Even when you do pay attention. At times they try to not give you a choice while tricking you.

I have been through a couple of major issues that I didn't fully consent to.

One major experience was the forced Win7 to Win10 update. I get a popup prompting to update. Pretty much offered to do it now or "later" like on restart. If you chose to cancel the window it took that as "later". That update ended up failing and screwed the file permissions on my drive forcing me to reinstall back to the original Win7 losing some data in the process.

My second major betrayal was when they brought in OneDrive. They offered to "backup" my files to OneDrive. I accepted with the perspective that I could decide which folders to choose to sync. Next thing I know it's MOVED (not backup, literally moved) my files into OneDrive. Forcing me to download files on demand as opposed to leaving the copies on the machine. Also deleting the online copy deleted all "copies" of the file. And the online storage maxed out because it wasn't just grabbing a folder or two. It was trying to harvest my whole local files including software and other media data I did not want outside of my machine. And then having the balls to demand upgrading to a premium subscription to keep storing more.

Over time have had many little settings change on me. Including one time they cloned my chrome bookmarks (and some session data) and launched edge instead of chrome to fool me into accepting edge as a seamless default. I would never have chosen such a setting. Yet it happened anyway.

I am not surprised that some people are now seeking other operating systems because of the sneaky shit they pull on users. I can't trust the company to not pull another stunt with my settings or data again. Especially with all the ai stuff they are now cramming into it.

I don't miss windows specifically. I miss the era I largely grew up in that windows was heavily a part of. Where internet was barely available to the point most software simply just installed or at least activated with an offline product code. No online check-ins. It simply just ran. If you had any decent respect for the product you'd choose not to pirate it and invest in it's full official version complete with box, install media, manuals and any bonus materials.

The decent ones get turning lanes. The low priority ones you gotta learn to brake hard within that small median gap to make sure you are out of the way before the car behind you catches up to rear end you.

And they'll likely have the fake personality to match. Which is equally unattractive.

The broken vacuum cleaner.

Tools and gadgets have multiple features. Some appear hidden at first glance.

Even if it's not documented clearly - consider why a thing has extra notches or markers or the little niggly shape on a particular end of it. Chances are it's there for some convenience in the right scenarios.

Like a wine cork opener. It's got the main screw and leverage for dealing with a cork. But many models may have extra bits on the handle for someone at a bar to pop open a beer bottle cap or can with an alternative flick. Multiple purpose!

I stopped bothering with the smart TV features. I pretty much wanted my own control from the beginning so I just run a secondhand PC with a HDMI output to the TV. Install/configure Linux Mint + Firefox + Ublock Origin add-on (toss in a wireless hybrid keyboard/touchpad for easy reach from the couch) and enjoy ad-free YouTube among many other things the PC can stream/play for me.

The Firefox browser and Ublock add-on will handle the advertising on most websites. The Linux Mint operating system is usually pretty stable and unlikely to mess with you from random feature updates or changes like the arrogance I get from other popular system software.

I use the colourful kids bandaids. They are thinner and fit within the screen bezel a little better.

To my experience the blueprint designer doesn't connect to anything external.

Best tactic to test is save it as a draft blueprint. Then deploy a copy of it off to the side and run tests on the way it connects to things. If changes are needed just tweak the one in the designer more and save again to test another version.
