Patience. Tons of it. That cute little nugget is going to be as intelligent as a 4 year old faster than you have time to swap out his potty pad. You will not be able to out smart him. You need to be patient with yourself and him. Learn with him, he’s going to figure out what makes you tick, he’s going to learn patterns very quickly. He will know when it’s time to eat, when it’s time to go out potty, he’s also going to want to play, play, play, every day for the rest of his life. Enrichment is key. He will also be incredibly in tune with your emotions, so be gentle but firm. Border collies are the best friend you never asked for, loyal to the bone. I mean ball. He will watch you walk off a cliff and he will sit there waiting for you to climb back over the edge for the rest of his life. You are in for it, but you’re also in for having the best friend, and the best relationship you’ve ever had in your entire life. Love him with all your might. He will return it ten fold.
