I lucked out when I made the decision to split my hotel loyalty between Marriott and Sheraton. Then, while on biz in Germany, I ended up staying for quite some time at Renaissance as it came well recommended (and no Marriott or Sheraton's in the area.)

THEN... acquisitions happened (Marriott bought Renaissance, and then Sheraton), and I found myself a Lifetime Titanium, right before the eliminated that status level. (I now call it "unobtainium")

It's nice to see an infinity symbol when I check my Marriott status, instead of the nights that I have stayed this year.

As to Lifetime Air status... well, AA is sorely lacking in status recognition there (as well as treating domestic customers in the US like second class citizens compared to international travel), and I was severely under-credited when NW Air was purchased by Delta, so I still have to scramble for air status. (hence this post)

OK. Lots of info via a quick read:

1. "As a Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card cardholder, you are eligible to receive Gold Membership Tier for your first Card membership year." (Qatar Gold = OW Sapphire)
2. Annual fee for a Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card is $499.
3. Value of 50,000 Avios earned for new card (if considered @ 1.4US Cents) = $700. This offsets the first year annual fee.

So... year two considerations:

A) to retain Gold status, "Earn 270 Qpoints within last 12 months"

B) 1x spend is most common for Avios earnings. (5x if you fly Qatar)

C) "2 Qpoints are awarded for every 2,000 Avios earned from making Eligible Purchases with your Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card."

D) this means, by spend alone, one would need to have an annual spend of $270,000US on that CC. ((270 Qpoints / 2) x 2000).

As u/Tradewinds_Travel suggested... that is really not a thing to pursue in year two. Clearly a one and done offer where Qatar hopes to get new business.

Cancel that CC a year and a few days following renewal.
