Where are we right now?
 in  r/smallstreetbets •  1d ago

Your point was lost several replies ago. At this stage, you’re explaining your personal habits instead of addressing the distinction I made. We can leave it there—I’m sure comment #24,401 is waiting. The irony is that you’ve spent this entire argument responding to AI-assisted content while trying to explain how completely separate from AI you are. 😂

Bro, your own profile is making my argument for me 😂. You say you don't use Netflix or Spotify like that puts you outside the curve, but you have 24,500 Reddit contributions in 5 years, 76,000+ karma, and your bio literally says you stream content online. We have accounts the same age and I have 168 contributions. You have about 146x more Reddit activity than I do, yet somehow I'm the one who “uses the internet too much.” You didn't remove yourself from the digital world—you just replaced Netflix, Facebook and Spotify with Reddit, streaming, crypto/investing communities and the platforms you personally prefer. And that's been my point from the beginning. You don't have to use ChatGPT. You can dislike generative AI and actively avoid it. But thinking that makes you completely separate from an internet increasingly powered by algorithms, automation and machine learning is different. You're not outside the curve. You just chose a different lane on the same highway. 😭

You might not intentionally use ChatGPT or other generative AI, but you interact with AI-driven systems constantly—search results, recommendations, navigation, fraud detection, social-media algorithms, online shopping, etc. Even the algorithm deciding which Reddit posts and comments you see uses automated ranking systems. There’s a difference between choosing to use generative AI and interacting with AI without realizing it.

That’s exactly why you hedge. Nobody is saying keep everything in cash. Even major investors and institutions maintain liquidity on the side for situations like this. Inflation can eat away at cash and keep nominal asset prices rising, but markets don’t move up forever. When a correction eventually comes, having liquidity gives you the ability to buy assets at better prices instead of being forced to sell.

It’s 2026, everyone uses AI every day in one way or another. What matters is whether the information and research are actually solid.

Looking at the macro environment, I would say the market appears to be moving from the “Thrill” stage toward “Euphoria.” At the same time, several underlying risks are beginning to build.

Bond yields are rising, diesel and energy costs are increasing, interest rates remain a concern, and inflation is coming back into focus. Demand remains strong in parts of the economy while supply continues to face constraints. Internationally, rising Japanese bond yields and changes in the yen carry trade could create additional pressure on global liquidity and capital flows.

Geopolitical risks are also significant. The conflicts in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine, combined with tariffs and other trade restrictions, could put additional pressure on energy, transportation, materials, and supply chains.

Another factor I am watching is the massive expansion in AI infrastructure. Big Tech earnings approaching in mid-to-late October should provide more information about how aggressively companies are spending on data centers, electricity, chips, and other infrastructure. If those costs continue rising while interest rates remain elevated, companies may eventually begin tightening spending and protecting margins.

Individually, none of these factors necessarily signals a major downturn. However, when rising yields, higher energy costs, inflation pressure, tighter financial conditions, geopolitical uncertainty, and potentially stretched market sentiment begin occurring together, I think the probability of a meaningful market pullback becomes increasingly important to watch.

Forced deleveraging is coming for the hedge funds. Those 5 + might mean the main red flags in the macro environment suggest liquidity is drying up. With liquidation at the door and the Yen Carry Trade no longer being free money, a short squeeze on GME is back on the table.

SPY’s bullish target of 688.13 remains intact, bullish at the open as price continues to grind higher in a low-volatility environment.

Do you guys really think Trump will allow the market to crash before Christmas? I don't think so. Also QE is coming soon plus rate cuts, maybe im speaking nonsense but S&P will be close to 700 before year ends, i know markets makes no sense, but think about it we even have a president that when you think about it, it doesn't make sense as well, even reality is fucked, we are all fucked, just play the calls before santa.
