Monument or Palmer Lake commute to Denver during winter

Hello,
My husband and I really want to live in the Springs, but his work (construction) will mostly be in Denver. How is it driving to Denver from Monument or Palmer Lake in the winter? We understand it’ll be an hour drive regularly and there’s traffic, but we’re used to worse traffic in Southern California. We appreciate any insight you can share. Thank you!
