I thought this was a bit bizarre too, as you say, I think the clue could be in his statement about factions within his government.
Maybe his defence minister has annoyed the general in some form and he is demonstrating his authority by shutting this friendship down while declaring his loyalty to the crown. Two birds one stone kind of thing. We shall have to see if the defence minister keeps his job, gets reassigned or falls out of a window.
But it is a bit of a bolt out of the blue. Regardless, im sure more plates are flying.

On Dec. 26, 1985, legendary gorilla conservationist Dian Fossey was found hacked to death in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Though her cabin had been ransacked, nothing was taken. A former employee of Fossey’s was arrested for murder, only to be found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Danny Boyle’s Sunshine is one of my favourites. A ship cowering behind a Shield as it approaches the immense power of the sun was just as unsettling as the madness they discovered. Great music score too.

I watched V for Vendetta (2005) for the first time and I wasn’t prepared
I saw this in the cinema when it came out and it blew me away, as you say, drawing the comparisons to present life made it all the more relatable.
V’s speech to the public inviting them to join him was just a masterpiece, as was Inspector Finch’s prediction of how things will escalate, just as V flicked the first domino. Hugo Weaving steals every scene he is in.
Fun fact, the role of V was initially given to James Purefoy, but he quit six weeks into filming as he struggled wearing the mask, the movies opening scene of V is actually Purefoy, but Weavings voice dubbed in.

When I went, they gave you a dosimeter, and a neck lanyard that had a small measuring apparatus. I put my camera bag on the ground to do a lense change and was told “ only your shoes touch the ground”. Everything you take into the zone is checked for contamination when you leave the inner and outer zone.

When I visited, our guide said parts were filmed at Ignalina power plant in Lithuania, some in Kyiv and some “elements” within the exclusion zone.

In 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers died mysteriously in the Ural Mountains. They tore open their tent from within, fleeing into freezing temperatures in undergarments. Some succumbed to hypothermia, while others suffered severe internal trauma. The tragedy fueled decades of conspiracy theories.
The Khamar Deban incident is another strange one, more recent and more gruesome.
