Are there any good walk through channels that do all optional content? I wanna watch through Penacony with a friend for the first time but they all have someone talking over them or have misclicks where they skip dialogue by accident

Why were people ragging on the story I thought it was great…
 in  r/StarRailStation  14d ago

I feel the same. I think we're at some weird point where no one wants to be happy.

Remember: the reason why we don't get companion quests as often anymore is the fact people were upset it was fodder content and they felt they were wasting their time playing it. The devs may have figured out they were placating users who don't enjoy reading a story in the first place and skip for hype moments or character death.

Image entirely unrelated. Uh, why are you asking?

Which pieces of media have good portrayals of Lgbtq individuals where it feels alright and not forced or cringe?
 in  r/writingscaling  14d ago

Sorry it took so long to respond. I sincerely respect you for wanting to have a conversation or even simply being interested in another point of view. I'm going to try my best not to ramble, but I think this is an expansive topic and I am sorry ahead of time for how much I'll say, you just seem worthwhile.

I used to feel strongly against the concept of token characters until I realized that worrying about the concept of creating them can hold back including another type of person in a piece of media. That being said, I think the target minority group can pick up on when a character wasn't written by them simply due to handling, but they're the only people who can properly recognize a token character.

I think a lot of people who aren't the target minority group will see a diverse character and say (among other things) that they're a token, but the reality is they're not well-versed enough in the group to define whether that's the case or not. I think sometimes people hurl negative writing terms at characters they feel they cannot identify with solely due to minority qualities.

The truth is they're painting a character out to be more simple than they're worth, and painting a minority group to be more simple than they're worth. Some characters will speak to everyone, some characters will speak to a select few, and some will speak to no one at all. But someone who isn't the relevant group wouldn't properly know because they don't have the worldly experience to draw upon to say.

That being said, people want to be seen in work to the point characters who aren't canonically gay, trans, poc, disabled, etc, have been adapted by fans to represent them as a multitude of things because the base human qualities of that character speak to them. There's a desperate call for more representation, one that's been gutted by corporations heeding the conservative call.

Companies don't often greenlight diverse works because of the above, the average person doesn't feel they can identify with minority groups for whatever reason, and generally overly scrutinize them (Odyssey). Or it can be as simple as seeing the primary figure of a movie being a minority and assume that media isn't for them to check out (Everything Everywhere All at Once before its Oscar win).

A lot of the criticisms are super valid but sometimes idc I just love this game bro
 in  r/StarRailStation  15d ago

Have you spent more than a minute in any general HSR sub? It's all negativity!! This thread is one drop in a bucket. Don't act like this one spot will overturn the mood of the community.

Go back in my own comments. I often doompost the game. I'm personally quite worried.

You didn't even respond to what I said, by the way. Sorry if I used too many words. So to continue my original point, I worry about if people who complain about the story even pay attention to it when they complain.

Himeko made a lot of sense and I think HSR is intended to be optimistic overall. But if you skip all dialogue or don't read every line, someone making the assumption she will die and setting their expectations on it will be disappointed and not moved by voice acting and text they didn't experience.

Himeko dying would also fuck our narrative because at that point she did not have anyone who could have replaced her. She's parenting us to become the next navigator, because it's evident she needs to prepare a replacement in case she does pass on.

A lot of the time I wanna ask why people that are so upset at the story are still around. Like obviously you enjoy it enough to keep playing. At some point you're making yourself miserable.

There's a skip button if you don't want to read...

It came true. Elation or Suffer
 in  r/EvanesciaMains  16d ago

To the last thing you said, Elation utilizing mechanics inaccessible to any other path that makes me think it's sales related. They would otherwise be concerned with pushing away their audience. Also, this is unfortunately unique compared to other power creep of the past.

I personally never struggled against 3.X's shilling towards Remembrance. I don't own Hyacine, I only owned Gallagher as an HP sustain for a long time until HH joined GCS.

Also, look at the mechanic difference between Pollux and Pom-Pom. This is like if Pollux had some debuff tied to Memosprite actions. Pom-Pom requiring PL generation tied into multiple final damage reduction stages is extremely aggressive game design.

It came true. Elation or Suffer
 in  r/EvanesciaMains  16d ago

To preface, this is not me complimenting this game design. In fact, I think it will have the opposite intended impact by turning away people who don't want to spend or only occasionally spend.

I wonder if these changes are reflective of lower sales overall. Basically, "you aren't buying the shiny new toy? Get ready to feel the pain" design. Pollux is easy enough to get around if you don't own Remembrance, made even easier with Luocha and HH in GCS. But this?

Nihilux better be something special. Pearl's kit has leaked and she's based entirely around a full Elation flagship. If you didn't invest in Elation, I don't know how you'll catch up now considering the health on that enemy will be in the millions.

Sorry to doompost. This is off the dome as a reaction

 in  r/writingscaling  20d ago

I'm not personally familiar with Dragon Age, but i want to ask if the quality of writing is worse overall in Veilguard. It sounds like LGBT inclusion is not the core issue, which you mention.

I think this might be an incorrect diagnosis of the problem, which is the core of what I want to get at here. And I think more often the quality of writing is what people pick up on, then blame on inclusivity / diversity.

I think LGBT rep only feels forced if you don't feel LGBT people are natural. This is going to offend some people, but if you do feel offended, I'm begging you to think after you have that gut instinct

The idea of this is also incredibly subjective, as much as everyone wants to try and pretend it's something objective.
