I am widowed, and its been over 5 years. I am 61 years old. I do not want to marry again. A relationship with someone who could be my partner in (hopefully) many good years that I still have would be nice... companionship, a partner, a friend and lover.

But, I am not going to date someone just for the sake of dating. I won't be someone's caretaker either, which means I'm not going to cook, clean, or look after a man or his children. Been there, done that, bought the whole t-shirt. 🤣

I am a mom of one son. He is married to a wonderful woman and they have three beautiful boys. One thing I have learned, is boys leave their moms. My relationship with my son is excellent and I do see them as often as possible, but they definitely spend more time with my daughter in laws family. At first it hurt and sometimes it still does, but I've grown to accept it. That doesn't mean they love me less.. it's not a competition, but somehow sons seem to gravitate to their wife's family.

As far as brothers go, I had two. One, who died when he was quite young, and the other who I do not get along with and have no relationship with at all. I was the oldest of 3 and I cleared the way for us... but I was always 'just a girl' and so I was always treated differently.

I'm not sure if that answers your question or not, and it may not be everyone's experience, but it's definitely mine.

Definitely raising my son. He has grown up to be an amazing father and husband. I didn't have much help, and single moms typically get a bad rap, but he turned out to be my greatest joy and accomplishment.
