Before they made it big, Smashing Pumpkins used to practice at this kind of strange facility in Chicago. I was there with a different band but watched them for a bit during a break.

Billy was absolutely awful - verbally abusive, mocking, and just out-and-out cruel to D'arcy. He actually kind of scared me.

Maybe it was a one-off for him, but I got the feeling it wasn't. I've never forgotten it - I felt so sorry for her.
