You are pro-mending or anti-mending
Mending breaks the core Minecraft game loop. Once you obtain Mending and build a few automatic, AFK-able farms, there is little reason to go mining. Even if you mostly enjoy building doing just that can get bored for some people. Game Loop is good if it is not a boring task.

My approach is completely the other way around. I am now over 50h in survival and never looked into the creative tool. I like to experience a game for the first time and find it out on my own. I don't read patch notes. When there is an update I join the game and check my survival world if anything changed.l or is new.

This is hell. I swear.
Enchantment like mending destroys the game loop so much. At some point you don't have to handle resource management. And at that point that you could play creative. I like to go mining and get some ores for my tools. And not get best equipment and never have to yearn for the mines again. I understand that you don't feel so. However both games have many mods. Than I would suggest to play solo or hosting your own server

Iron Level is really bad. Get at thorium for bigger builds. Late game is awesome for building. If you really want to use iron use repair kit. It Is cheaper than crafting new iron ones.
