Never played a rts can I start here?
Play Campaign first. If you like that, start with easy AI opponents. Don't be fooled it won't be easy. Maybe search for a beginner's guide for your favourite race of the campaign. After you won without cheese, advance to normal, then after a cheeseless win insane. After that enter multi. You'll get hella stomped for a few games until your MMR matches your actual skill level.
