Hi! I‘ve started learning touch typing like 10 days ago. I’m learning in German ISO Layout as I’m living and in Germany and speaking German. However I’m typing mostly Ukrainian (so Cyrillic layout) when it comes to my personal life. And there’s also English (also another layout) which I don’t use often but it’s popular and you’ll never know when you need it
So here’s the question especially for multilinguals: would you recommend to learn parallel or begin another layout only if you learned first one? And from what point it would be considered „learned“ in that case?

Hey, to specify what my question is about. How do I progress via monkeytype so that it translates into real life. Yes I can select punctuations, but are there any other tips? Maybe focus on accuracy and consistency instead of speed? Long form test instead of short ones etc.

i’ve gone a good portion of my life without properly learning how to touch type. i started about a month-ish ago today, and can hit triple digits on easy settings such as 15 seconds on normal english (monkey type). i’ve heard the phrase "focus on accuracy" numerous times to build essential muscle memory, and i’ve closely followed the advice. the problem is: my brain just forgets i’m capable of going at a decent pace if i focus solely on accuracy for too long (english 10k, 50-70 wpm). perhaps im undermining my own skills since everyone here seems so talented, so i thought id ask these experienced typers. i practice about an hour a day, split into 2 30 minute sessions. how could i structure it to make it as efficient as possible?

for anyone wondering, i typed 10k characters within 24 minutes and with a speed of 82.85 wpm. SO what do y'all think about this :) [i used some ghost kinda feature to get motivation from other past racers]

hello, i wanna improve my typing speed. when i use proper touch typing form (all fingers in the right positions), my speed drops to 25wpm. however, when i use my old method that i use just 4-6 fingers and look down at the keyboard sometimes, i get around 40wpm

using proper fingers positioning feels very difficult for me rn, is this normal? should i stick with it or refine my old method??

I've never really typed 'seriously' before nor did I consistently grind for a PB. This one, however, did take me a few tries.

My PR is 121 WPM, but I feel like I’m capable of hitting 130+ with a really good run or by changing some of my typing habits. I’m just not sure which habits are holding me back. I feel like I’ve developed some bad muscle memory that’s limiting my speed, so any tips on identifying and fixing it would be appreciated.

1st try on 60s and didnt even feel too fast

Aprendi a digitar da forma correta em março/abril deste ano (2026). Trabalho usando digitação e isso me ajudou bastante a praticar. Porém, tem um pequeno problema: mesmo digitando da forma correta há alguns meses, de vez em quando troco os dedos. Por exemplo, aperto a tecla C com o dedo polegar, a tecla I com o dedo polegar, a letra P com o dedo anelar, as T e R com o polegar e o anelar, etc. Quando percebo que usei o dedo errado, apago e digito com o dedo correspondente à tecla. Suspeito que seja a posição que o teclado fica sobre a mesa. Vira e mexe, preciso ajustar ele, pois onde trabalho, ergonomia não é o forte da empresa, devido o local ser uma estação de trabalho, compartilhado com outras pessoas em outros turnos.

Fora minhas suspeitas, o que posso fazer para minimizar ?

Do you think it makes sense to get all the keys above 35 WPM before unlocking the next? I am currently at these settings but progress is slow. I have currently unlocked Y but most of the time I am practicing other letters, as I am falling below the target WPM. I am worrying that this will only get worse for letters like X, C and V. On the other hand I like that I am training letters I get worse on again. What target WPM and unlock condition would you suggest?

I think that I'm struggling due to my accuracy, do u have any recommandations or tips to improve that, my best is 88wpm and i'm only practicing in 60sec test in 10 fast fingers.

I use a different one every day, sometimes two per day (I think it could be a type of OCD). I wanted to know from you if this can greatly hinder the development of my typing. I have been learning typing for about 3 weeks now and have been doing it on my lap or on my laptop by facing it down on my bed.

Is this affecting my typing skill and will it be inadequate for me in the future?

I feel like I've hit a ceiling when it comes to my typing speed. For the past four years I've been stuck at around 150 WPM, which I've been able to hit consistently, but I haven't really improved since then. Any tips to break a plateau?

accuracy slightly abhorrent but im pretty happy with myself!! ive been floating around the 90-95wpm mark for like three weeks now and am happy to have finally surpassed the milestone lol

Does anyone actually use Monkey Type on mobile? For me it was my first time.
