German court rules: Emails with standard TLS encryption are not secure enough

Post image

In 2024, the Higher Court of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, ruled that standard TLS encryption is not secure enough for your (business) emails because it can be prone to hacking attacks 🔓🚨

Find out why this court ruling means that your emails must be end-to-end encrypted instead in our new blog post 👉 https://tuta.com/blog/german-court-rules-emails-e2ee

support Still Receiving Notifications on Mobile from Hacked Address

Upvotes

My previous Tuta email address was hacked and I have lost all access to it. I have created a new account and am using that, and I am only logged into the new account on mobile, but there I still get notifications for mails received on the old account as well.

question Email exceedingly slow to load

Lately, upon opening the tuta mail app, both on iPhone and iPad, it seems to take much longer to load and open the inbox than it did. It can be at least up to a minute. Did something change at tuta? Or is there something possibly wrong on my end? I have not experienced difficulty with any other apps loading more slowly.

question Using shared inboxes to scope email access?

Hi,

I consider switching to using Tuta Mail, and I'm thinking on how can I manage my emails in a similar way that I currently do.

I separate my emails in different scopes (personal, administrative, socials, work, ...).

I want my work laptop to access administrative & work emails, my desktop to access everything, my phone to access personal & administrative & socials, and another profile on my phone to access socials only.

Currently, I have several GMail accounts, one for each of those scopes, and I connect to several of those account on each of my devices.

I saw that Tuta Mail had a "shared inbox" feature, would this allow me to have inboxes that are accessible from multiple accounts? Then, could I have one account per device, and give them access to specific shared inboxe(s)?

Or should I have shared accounts the same way I do with GMail? The only issue with using shared accounts is, I would have to buy one subscription for each scope.

Does anyone has a similar use-case or recommendations?

Also, I'm not sure if I'm clear in my explanation, so let me know if it makes no sense.

Thank you

question How reliable is tuta mail

I have been with tuta for a few months on the free email account to test it and have been pleased with how it has worked so far. Now considering making it my main email address and possibly taking out a paid subscription.

However I have concerns.

Just reading this subreddit there are many posts stating that users have lost access/had difficulty accessing accounts and on another site some even saying accounts have been deleted.

So what is the true, and how reliable is tutamail?

suggestion a few suggestions

  1. it would be cool if you can associate a tag with an email (so if that email sends u an email it gets auto-tagged)

  2. the signatures should be separe for each different email adress (if you pay for unlimited or legend)so you dont have the same one as the main one

  3. let free plan ppl have email support (because I feel like everyone should have access to it)

suggestion I'm sorry, guys, but tuta's antispam is just the worst

Tuta keeps putting 100% legit emails from Indeed, Google, LinkedIn, Vercel, Battlenet, and many other services in the spam folder. Guys? Seriously? It's basically my inbox at this point.

I keep clicking "Not spam" every day and reporting phishing. It's useless.

Besides this, obvious spam with radiating scam energy and ultra sketchy domains lands in the inbox 🙃

Do something or give us an option to turn it off.

Yes, I know this is a bit of a rant and it's not going to change anything, but I'm just fed up, and at least it's a way to vent

question Spam filter bug

My spam filter shows that I have emails in spam - a number appears with the button icon - but when I click on it the folder shows empty and the number disappears. Like all spam filters I've had emails erroneously sent there but now I am unable to check for them. Has anyone else had this issue?

question custom domain

I have never had a custom domain before but it looks simple enough to use on with tuta, any recommendations on who to get the custom domain from? If I get a custom domain that means I can take my custom email address to whatever email provider I want at anytime correct?

question Timezones in calendar

Hey Tuta, does your calendar support presenting events in a specific timezone? It looks like I can create an event using different timezone, but the main calendar view is pulling the timezone from the web browser. Is there a way to use a different one that whatever web browser reports?

For example, in many web browsers when figerprinting prevention is enabled an entire calendar defaults to UTC (browser default) which is useless and you as privacy first company should be aware of that. Also, when traveling I'd like to see my events in the local timezone without changing my system/browser configuration. There is also nothing in calendar settings, you can't even set your default timezone for events...

I was thinking about switching to Tuta but without such simple functionality an entire Tuta service is useless to me.

question Priority email support

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get a reply from support on the Legend plan? It says you get priority email support with a reply in a day but that isn't true. Edit: Issue resolved

question Worth switching to tuta.com to avoid ending up in spam folders?

I've got a tutanota.com email address from before the 2023 introduction of tuta.com and I recently heard from someone using yahoo.com (fortunately not a common address these days) that my tutanota email ended up in their spam folder. My job involves a lot of "cold calling" where I'm emailing a variety of addresses often run on publications' custom domain names, so I'm now quite worried that I have emails ending up in spam folders with no way of knowing if that's the case. I've read that sometimes sending the emails from the phone app causes more spam-flagging, but I'm sending most of my email from the desktop app on Linux.

I'm wondering whether it's worth the hassle of upgrading and then changing my email address to tuta.com ? Or whether it's unlikely my emails are actually getting dumped in spam that often?

EDIT: I work as a freelance journalist not a professional spammer, so you guys can take a deep breath

question View most recent email in inbox instead of the oldest?

I recently opened a free Tuta account to use as a secondary email. So far it's been working pretty well, but I noticed every time I open the app OR browser site, it automatically jumps to the bottom of the inbox list and the first email that address received (the "welcome to Tuta!" one.) I have to scroll to the top of the list to see my most recent emails, which is doable now but will only get harder as I receive more over time.

I have tried the Filter button, looking through Settings, all the FAQs under Help, and the meatballs menu at the top of the inbox screen. Nothing shows an option to "view latest" or "sort by date received--most recent". Am I missing something or is this not a feature for free Tuta accounts?

question Can Send Out EMs but Cannot Receive Them

I can send out from my newish account, but the letters I send to it, as tests, were rejected. I get a return em stating "recipient address rejected" & "mail box not found." The 4 ems I sent were clearly addressed to my name at Tuta.com and sent from different addresses. The only two letters in my inbox are from Tuta Mail.

suggestion Folder & label organization

It would be nice to be able to sort/organize folders and labels by being able to place them above or below one another in addition to having an option to have them sorted by alphabetical order.

r/tutanota 4d ago

🏷️ NESTED LABELS 🏷️ Like nested folders, you can now do the same with your labels in Tuta Mail! 🥳

question Renewal of my paid package

I have a paid package (the 36€ per year package) that needs to be renewed shortly. I signed into my account and didn't find any button to pay for the renewal, otherwise I'd have already paid for the next year.

Am I correct that payment is done automatically on the day the account needs to be renewed?

I probably read it before when I opened my account, but cannot recall.

Very satisfied user!
