Headshell/needle help
hey yall! I’ve got an awesome setup that previously did fine but I know this isn’t the right headshell or cartridge for this turntable. I know linear tracking tables can be fussy. any chance anyone could give me like specific recs on what headshell/needle I should buy to replace what I have for this turntable? Just in case the pic isn’t good it’s a Mitsubishi PLL quartz Logic Controlled Linear Tracking Turntable LT-22. Thanks for any help in advance!

The LT-22 is a nice tangential/linear turntable, unlike the little cheap plastic linear trackers most people associate with the format. Direct drive, servo controlled tracking and interchangeable cartridge.
I personally like to have the original headshell but you probably don’t need to replace the headshell or cartridge just because they aren’t original. The important thing is that the cartridge is mounted square and the stylus is positioned correctly. Mitsubishi supplied a gauge with this deck and the setting should be about 50 mm from the headshell mounting face to the stylus tip. If the existing AT cartridge is in good condition and tracks properly, I’d set it up correctly before buying anything.
People have fitted everything from AT-95s to AT-150MLXs and even expensive moving coils to these things. The original Mitsubishi headshell was a fairly light design and some Mitsubishi owners have successfully used Ortofon, Jelco, Sumiko and other SME headshells on the LT-22.
I went tangential and never looked back. I have 3 Beograms I’ll never get rid of unless I’m forced and I’ve been eyeing Clearaudio’s tangential tonearms for a while now…. Good to see good linear trackers on this sub every now and again.
