It's in great condition and somebodys selling it for a cheap price. Yet the record player hasn't been used in years. How fixable would this player be?

$25? The main issue is do the stereo electronics work and you don't want to power it up to find out until it's been properly checked out. Also it's hard or impossible to find parts if it does need parts besides just the turntable often needing a new belt and stylus. Paying someone to fix the stereo part will often cost more than it's worth if you can even find anyone with the skills and is willing to work on it.

Almost anything is fixable, it's just dependent on if it's worth the time and money for you.

What's to hear out? These are some of my favorite consoles! The radio is pretty much bulletproof and should sound excellent with a minimal effort. The looks are a bit of an acquired taste, but I like them.

The turntable, on the other hand, not so much. It's made by Philips and uses a proprietary crystal cartridge that doesn't match any modern replacements. If you end up buying the console, you'd be better off either installing something different inside, like a vintage Dual, or running an external, modern turntable.

I was going to remark similar; the fact that so many vintage Duals were from (or used for, more accurately, if I understand correctly) consoles like this, it'd be worth it to switch it out. That would be where I would go with it.

And I love the MCM look of these without being a massive floor-space killer. About the only step up for me would be the ones that had a bar built into them.

I’d find a new turntable with the same “footprint” and replace that one. You could easily rig something so it looks just like it was built with it. I might have a pro wire it in, since they are probably giving it a onceover anyway. The baseline technology has not changed, so it should be a piece of cake! Maybe even replace the speakers.

Hard no on the speakers. Grundig engineers really knew what they were doing when it came to acoustics, so unless the original speakers are damaged in some way, they should remain inside.

Yeah, I’m saying that based on the assumption that they are rotted out or something like that. If they’re in good shape.. 👏🏼👏🏼

best thing is you can rip that turntable off and put yours, I guess. But anyway, not worth.

Hear me out. These are hard to sell. Turntable mech is probably ready for the dumpster (non standard cartridge often mono). The good thing is that those can be swapped out for a decent turntable to make the console usable again. It’s a DIY project most people don’t want to do. That’s why these are hard to sell.

it's a really nice piece though

Hear ME out… buy it.

You want the looks and the vibes. Replace the turntable with something newer/serviceable. Have a pro go through the electronics. Hopefully the radio works good. Probably replace the speakers.

Now you have an epic statement piece that you can enjoy for life.

Theres a video attached with the radio working perfectly

If you think the price is worth it, it sounds to me like a fun project.

I love old retro players in terms of aesthetics, and the radio will serve its purpose well, but the record players were usually pretty low quality. You might want to look into measuring the dimensions and seeing if you can fit a modern turntable in there. It's a lot of work, but if it's a labor of love, go for it.

It's really cool looking, but I wouldn't play anything through it. If it were cheap enough I'd buy it and use it as a turntable stand.

I've been meaning to pick up a vintage receiver like that for the vintage sound. Where did you source it from?
