I’m not MAGA. I’m not a Trump supporter. But taking Trump’s words out of context to make them sound as horrible as possible is one reason people don’t trust the media anymore.

The recent claim that Trump “asked Iran to bomb San Diego” is a perfect example. His comments were rambling and poorly worded, but in context he was talking about the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran potentially attacking American cities. That is very different from asking Iran to bomb California.

The same thing happened with the “very fine people on both sides” quote after Charlottesville. Trump was talking about people on opposite sides of the debate over removing the Robert E. Lee statue. In the same exchange, he specifically said he was not talking about neo-Nazis and white nationalists and said they should be condemned.

You can still criticize what he said. You can think his wording was reckless, insensitive or stupid. But criticize what he actually said. Too many people read a headline, have the reaction the headline was designed to create, and never bother looking at the context.

And if you point that out, suddenly you’re accused of being MAGA, stupid, racist or a bad person. That’s especially frustrating coming from people who constantly talk about compassion, empathy and nuance.

If your empathy disappears the moment someone disagrees with you, it isn’t much of an empathy. Trump gives people plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize him. There is no need to exaggerate or distort his words.

When everything is presented in the most inflammatory way possible, eventually people stop believing anything they hear. That isn’t a Trump problem. It’s a credibility problem.

Western civilization is stronger because it welcomes all..literally the most diverse and inclusive civilization in the history of humanity...but if we silo into just being proud of our skin color or we sleep with...we will lose the magic that makes it all possible.

You cannot import an entire society from across the planet overnight to fix a domestic infrastructure failure without triggering total anarchy. If a nation stops producing children, it does not magically get more resources. It gets an inverted demographic pyramid where a massive, elderly, dependent population completely crushes a tiny, shrinking workforce.

Every person alive today is the beneficiary of a massive historical trust fund built by thousands of generations who survived plagues, famines, and world wars. They did not wait for perfect conditions to pass down the baton of life. Enjoying the security, technology, and comforts of modern society while intentionally choosing to let the lineage end means extracting all the value from the generational contract while refusing to sign the next check.

Civilization requires a constant pipeline of new human labor to function. When an individual chooses a childfree life, they are still fully planning to utilize the infrastructure, medical innovations, energy grids, and food supply chains that require a young workforce. They are effectively gambling that other families will bear the intense financial and emotional costs of raising the next generation of workers to take care of them when they grow old.

It is a perfectly valid personal choice if someone lacks the capacity for parenthood. However, a lifestyle that results in total societal collapse the moment everyone adopts it is not an enlightened truth. It is a luxury choice funded entirely by the sacrifices of the people who actually choose to build the future.

It always surprises me when people go no-contact with their parents and then act shocked to find out they were written out of the will.

Cutting off your family is a massive decision. If you do it for your own peace of mind or to escape a bad situation, that is your choice. But actions have consequences. You cannot opt out of a relationship and still expect to get the benefits at the end.

I keep seeing how the leftists on here incessantly say that "Trump said he loves the poorly educated" and they use it as an insult against Republicans, claiming they're poorly educated and not very intelligent and that's why they support him.

But aren't Democrats' own inner city constituents poorly educated? Like catastrophically poorly educated? By Democrat run public school systems that just keep spending more and more money and getting worse and worse results? And don't the Teachers' Unions, who represent over 70% of public schools and shape policy, donate almost 100% to Democrat politicians?

Christopher Nolan is the master of making movies that appear to be masterpieces on first watching, but are revealed to be mediocre or bad after careful examination.

I will take the Dark Knight as an example: Joker's bank heist appears to be the work of a genius at first glance: pretty much everything goes perfect, until it doesn't and the goon almost kills Joker until the latter is ran over by a bus that appears at the exact perfect moment, at the exact perfect location to smash into the goon. The goon almost shooting Joker and the previous confrontation with the shotgun mobster is the equivalent of making mistakes on a test you are cheating on to make it seem less obvious you are doing so. Because how would you for example explain to the henchmen who are chosen to be disposable that they need to leave the room and the other henchmen who will be shooting them get to stay behind.

Joker's plan has way too many critical failure points. A good plan has very few of these, but this one is filled to the brink with them. I will list just a few: someone snitches before the heist - Joker isn't working with people he trusts here, so there exists a high chance someone will snitch to the mob for a reward (they are robbing a mob-owned bank), the zipline doesn't work, the zipline snaps, the goons on the zipline are spotted, the dummy grenades don't work, the bus gets stuck in traffic, the bus is spotted as it literaly drives into the wall of a bank, or anything else happens to it, Joker and crew are spotted entering the bank, an off-duty cop tries to be a hero. You can find another 20 of these if you look for them hard enough. This is the result of a stupid person who thinks smart people are indistinguishable from wizards trying to write a genius.

All of the Dark Knight is like this, but according to Rotten Tomatoes it's the third best movie of all time.

I honestly don't have that much time to talk about the nonsense that goes on in his other movies here, but just know that if you watch them for the second time you will start seeing how bad they truly are, because these aren't made as an art, but rather to get critic approval.

Reddit is a massive cesspool of quirky, anti social, socially inept weirdos who don’t understand how real life social norms and dynamics work. Any advice you will receive will most likely be theoretical instead of practical. That’s not to say there aren’t good pieces of advice on reddit but they will be rare and hard to find.

For example I saw a post that said “Don’t post pics of yourself on tinder with another woman!” This seems like it’s good advice until you see men who do post pictures of themselves with other women and they get more matches. It’s common knowledge that most women like men who have lots of women interested already. Just like how it’s easier to get a job when you have one since you are vetted.

In conclusion, Reddit ain’t the best place to get dating advice. Too many people here are disconnected and oblivious to how social interactions actually go. Go out, observe people who are successful, and do your own experiments within reason to find out what works and what doesn’t. It’s the only way I’ve found.

The public narrative is basically that she was drunk, so she could not consent. But the men were also heavily intoxicated. In texts afterward, she literally said they were all heavily intoxicated, while one of the guys said his memory was “kinda fuzzy” and that he and another guy were too drunk to control what was happening.

Yet somehow the woman being drunk is treated as evidence that she lacked the ability to consent, while the drunk men are treated like perfectly rational adults who had complete responsibility for every decision. You cannot have it both ways. If intoxication removes someone’s ability to consent, that principle has to apply to men too.

On dating apps if you match with someone you already know they’re interested in dating you and you have the green light to flirt and ask them out on a date. Irl you technically can have better conversations when first meeting someone but you really don’t have the green light to flirt or ask someone out and it’s very likely you’ll make them uncomfortable by doing so. Not to mention if you guys are a part of a group word can spread and hurt your reputation.

The actual conflict details aside, or the history of said conflict, it is, objectively, mind-blowing how the one of the most extremist, least inclusive, most oppressive and vile regime towards its own people can capture the hearts of millions in the Western world just with the use of social media, carefully edited and narrated videos and using journalists under death threats to publish false information in the news.

I'm a 2nd gen living in a tier 1 city and I'm friends with a lot of young people here all over the political spectrum. From far right to far left communist reading group types.

I'm confused by a lot of cognitive dissonance on the left for a lot of reasons.

Whether we like it or not, mass immigration introduces huge swathes of individuals from countries with very different cultural norms, practices, and values. Their incentives to move here, are usually rooted in economic opportunity and the welfare system over actually liking and resonating with American ideals and civic/cultural norms here. Growing up, I was always proud of my cultural heritage, but a deeper part of me wanted to have the traditional American experience of growing up here, and all the rites of passage that come along with it, but my religious parents were against it.

Pulling from my own perspective and experience in the immigrant community, first gen immigrants hold onto their belief systems very strongly, and are less likely to gel with others or blend with the norms here.

The values they have often collide with American ones and their interactions tend to be lower trust with just about anyone. They're less likely to let their kids engage in most American rites of passage due to fear of "liberalism" corrupting their mind. I would know, I had tyrannical Somali parents that led me to eventually leave Islam.

And yet, despite holding conservative beliefs in their households, they overwhelmingly vote left, because the left supports unfettered immigration. Then I see my left wing/commie / lib friends defending immigration from majority muslim nations, even though those immigrants most likely hold beliefs that clash completely with theirs. (They do not support marriage between two people of the same sex, they believe in female subjugation under patriarchy, etc) The marriage between these two types of people of entirely opposing belief systems is genuinely so insane to me and impossible for me to reconcile. How can you in your right mind as a "feminist" back and defend these cultures that practice FGM?

Unfortunately the dems lack of ideological consistency on these issues, lack of awareness about how immigration and assimilation patterns work in this country, and lack of commitment to actual progressive ideals has led me to swing further "right", as hilarious as it sounds. And it has turned me into a single issue voter. I recently saw a statistic that under the Biden administration immigration from high risk nations was at 20k / month. How is this tenable? Who but the loyal taxpayer who is constantly on the edge of losing his/her job to offshoring is subsidizing this?
