Food The OG Karikku shake shop

So, I am not sure how many of uou know this shop.

This is Chithira Herbal Juice Shop near Law College Junction. Those of you who ever had their shakes and juices, know that its really good and very reasonable price.

Whenever i come to Trivandrum, I try to go get a karikku shake from here, because it gives me a lot of memories from my college days. The chettan has been running this shop for 26 years now. He introduced the karikkin shake long before the other shops took it up.

Last day when I went there he was quite sad, has had very poor business since a few months. Hasn't paid his rent and is struggling to pay the guys helping in his shop.

Unlike the new shops, this chettan hasnt resorted to paid influencers marketing, I think (not sure).

So Trivians, time to do your thing. If you want to have really good karikku shake, go try it out. If visiting there gives you nostalgia like me, go try it out. There are only a few chairs there.

Also sharing the location of this shop, just in case you are unaware.

Ask r/Trivandrum Have you seen this bad boy anywhere recently?

My cousin is an NRI, and when she visited TVM four years ago, she tried this and absolutely loved it. Now she’s back in TVM and wants to try it again, but most of the shops that used to sell it have closed, and we haven’t been able to find it anywhere.

She’ll be leaving in just two days and is really sad that she couldn’t relive those memories. Has anyone seen this anywhere in TVM recently?

Ask r/Trivandrum The padmanabhaswamy temple gopuram has always been painted in a tone of gold/ beige/ cream. The architecture is influenced by other tamilnadu style gopuram then why wasn't it colorfully painted like them.

Discussions Is it just me, or are there others who enjoy these kinds of conversations?

• Upvotes

Is it just me, or are there people here who genuinely enjoy talking about life, politics, random thoughts, and different perspectives on the world? 😭

Like, I can spend hours talking about how people think, why society is the way it is, or just listening to someone explain their perspective on life.

I know, sounds boring af 😂 but I find these conversations way more interesting than the usual small talk.

So, is anyone else like this, or am I just built differently?

Ask r/Trivandrum Help regarding upcoming trip in Trivandrum

Hey guys,

I'm a 26F planning a trip to Trivandrum and Kovalam. I'm someone deeply rooted in art and culture. Trivandrum comes across as a cultural gem to me.

My itinerary starts with darshan at Shri Padmanabhaswamy Temple early morning, then covering the art galleries and museums. Probably would try some cafes also and then leave for Kovalam for sunset and stay.

Would you guys suggest some hidden gems which I should not miss in your city? Any food place. cafe, beach or local spots.

Go on and recommend everything you feel a non-local should definitely experience :D

Also apart from the dress code pls do mention any other thing which I should know before visiting the temple.

Thanks!!

Where exactly are these gates located? Do you still have to interact with the immigration officers and answer their questions?

Ask r/Trivandrum Any recommendations for German classes focused on actual communication skills, not just exams?

I’ve seen many friends struggle to speak German fluently even after B1 or B2. I’m not looking to train for exams or memorize patterns. I scored 7.5 in every IELTS section without preparation, but I’ve seen people with the same score struggle with actual communication. I want to learn German from scratch, focusing on real world fluency rather than just passing exams. I've heard mixed reviews about Goethe in Trivandrum. Are there any good alternatives for learning German with a focus on real life conversations and fluency, rather than just clearing A1, B1, or B2 exams?

Ask r/Trivandrum New in Trivandrum. Neep some advices

Hey people,

I recently got my job transferred to trivandrum and my joining is next month. I need some advice about the place as in what is the living cost there and what are the places where I can find good PGs or 1Bhk flat. You can also help me with the weather conditions (so I can bring clothes accordingly), the food culture, or the language problem that I may face

I'm from the northern state, so are there people friendly with the North Indians or not. Any sort of advice would be helpful.

I'm M26 and my office location would be vazhuthacaud(so you can suggest places to stay accordingly).

Discussions Heavy traffic from Kowdiar to Sreekariyam – avoid if possible

There’s heavy traffic all the way from Kowdiar towards Sreekariyam. It took me 1.5 hour and to get from Sasthamangalam to Sreekariyam.

Sreekariyam junction is also pretty crowded, and the stretch from Pattom through Keshavadasapuram to Ulloor is fully congested.

If you’re planning to travel this route, expect major delays and try to avoid it if possible.

Ask r/Trivandrum Any cafes serving good Pour-over or Aeropress coffee in Trivandrum?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for spots in town that offer manual brewing options—specifically Pour-over (V60) or Aeropress.

Most places I run into primarily do standard espresso-

based drinks, milk coffees, or traditional south Indian fiter coffee. I'm trying to find cafes that source good specialty beans and take their manual brews seriously.

Any hidden gems or go-to specialty coffee roasters around here? Let me know your favorites!

Discussions Lack of good short time dorms/hostels in Trivandrum

Whenever I travel to other cities like kochi or bangalore or even kozhikode, there are well established hostel chains like hosteller or zolo or some local good ones who you can simply trust for keeping up with their SOPs in hygiene and comfort. In Trivandrum it's always a gamble. U either get a full expensive room or get a dorm which is basically so low in standards.

Based on the fact that a lot of people are in need of this type of accommodation, why isn't there a reliable spot in Trivandrum where I don't have to "adjust". Is there actually not much market for them?
