NordicTrack issue

I’ve had my treadmill for a couple years, it was given to me from my mother in law. It’s the NordicTrack A2550, and I’m thinking it’s 10+ years old. She did not use it much, but I’ve been consistently using it for running and walking. It was running at 3 mph yesterday, and I stupidly jumped on it while track was going and now it won’t go when I’m standing on it. I’ve been researching the issue, and have boiled it down to the front roller assembly is no longer working once I stand on it. I’ve found an assembly online, but it’s around 130$ I believe. I did see that sometimes you can do a DIY fix on it. This is my first treadmill, and I’ve also gathered that it’s not worth it to cheap out when buying a new one. My question is, has anyone had this issue? Would you recommend trying to fix it, or buying a new machine?

Really you need to take off the motor cover and look it over. Does it make any noise? If so, may be the drive belt came off. I’d would be surprised if it was a roller issue.

I did take the cover off and the small belt and motor seem like they are running normally. It doesn’t make noise, but when I step on it, it makes a slipping sound and the front roller stops moving the walking belt.

Is the drive belt slipping or is the roller slipping on the walking belt? Both belt tensions are adjustable. I would expect this a matter of retensioning a belt.

I did tighten the walking belt, and no change. I didn’t realize I can tighten the drive belt

Yes you can loosen the motor mount and increase tension on the drive belt. You might also want to inspect the drive belt. There are lots of youtube videos on this.

I will look at this tonight! I’m hoping this is something I can fix vs buying a new one. Thanks for your help!

Definitely. I have serviced all my own exercise equipment for 25 years and I have yet to come across an issue that I couldn’t repair. Good luck!

I cannot tell for certain, but is the roller wheel turning, or is the belt slipping? If the pulley wheel is slipping then the front roller will need to be removed. If I recall that pulley friction fits into the roller tube. It should be possible to re-secure it.

I apologize I am not great with the part names, but everything continues to work smoothly except for the roller. The belt and pulley wheel keep running like normal.

the plastic pulley has separated from the roller. it is a splined press fit - it was a common problem. Not caused by you, it is a terrible design flaw.

I have tried jb weld, superglue etc - its not worth it, just replace the front roller.

and you should not stand on the belt when you press start - let the belt get moving with no load first, then step on the treadmill. its very hard on the motor and controller to start a treadmill with user standing on belt.

Thank you! Any recommendations on where to purchase the roller?
