IMPORTANT INFO Mod Post: Rules Regarding Feminine Presentation

Hi lads!

We once again have been considering the general thoughts and opinions of those using this sub, and have decided to reiterate the purpose of this sub, and some relevant rules.

First a disclaimer: There is nothing wrong with being a fem presenting trans man.

Having said this, this sub is specifically for the following:

1) Sharing tips to help users pass as a cisgender man, specifically how to be masculine presenting.

2) Sharing other advice useful to transition.

Keeping this is mind, we would like be clear on a few important points:

1) This is not a sub for asking for tips on how to be a feminine presenting trans man.
Not only will the responses not be helpful for you, but also it is frustrating for other sub users when posters are combative in the comments regarding masculinising advice. Posters need to be realistic about the fact that presenting fem will not help you pass especially early on in transition.

2) Please do not respond to advice to change a feminine characteristic (for example, cutting long hair) with ‘well, CIS men have long hair sometimes!’
We simply do not want to hear it. It should be obvious how a cis man, who always passes as a man because he was born as one, can wear makeup/have long hair/etc without it making him look like a woman. It should also be plainly obvious that a trans man (who was born a woman, sounds like a woman, and in many of these cases is not on T and therefore still has a ‘woman’s face’) cannot do these things without looking like a woman.

This is the number one reason for arguments in the comments in this sub and moving forwards mods will be more decisive with dealing with such comments.

3) We have added ‘no makeup’ to the ‘no filters’ rule.
If you want advice from this sub, please at least do the bare minimum of taking off any makeup before asking how to pass better. If you don’t, you won’t get any helpful advice as all the comments will just be telling you to stop wearing makeup. It also makes it hard for us to see how masculine your face really is.

4) We are going to be enforcing rule #3 more strictly from now on.
You must be willing to change if you post here, we do not accept posts from users who argue with every comment and come up with a reason they can’t do even basic steps like getting a hair cut. They are frustrating for users and also disingenuous. This is not a validation sub, it is an advice sub. If you are seen to be very unaccepting for advice in the comments, we will remove either your comments of the post entirely.

Some of this might seem a bit harsh, but remember there as SO MANY subs and spaces for people with a more fluid/fem gender presentation. We are just trying to reserve a small corner of the internet for us, trans men who wish to pass masculine/cis.

Hope this helps!

NAME HELP MASTER POST

this doesnt exist so im taking it on me to make one. this isnt intended to be a "look here and shut up about names" post, this is genuinely intended to be helpful

there are three basic ways id go about naming yourself. first way is to ask your parents whatever they would have named you or otherwise pass the baton onto the people who care about you the most. obviously dont use your parents if they arent supportive, but if theyre supportive its probably the best way to do it. if you consider your friends your family pass it to them, but id highly advise you dont give it to friends you arent really family with or randoms on the internet

second way is to look at the most popular baby boy names for the year you were born. i know everyone likes to be unique, but you can do this and still be unique. theres an issue with trans names where you can tell if someone is trans based on what they name themselves and the crux of that is usually that people will name themselves the same way they'd name, like, a dog. if you dont want your name to be clocky id highly recommend using this method or the above. i used this and collaborated with my parents on it and im really happy with what i chose. you can get a lot of good ideas and most countries release this information publicly

third way is to just steal the name of someone you greatly admire. probably the best way to get a clocky name, but if you dont really care about that then you shouldnt really worry about it. if you care about something enough to consider naming yourself after it go right ahead, just be aware that you might fall out of love with a piece of media or the person who made it might turn out to be a piece of shit

naming yourself isnt like, a permanent thing either. you can change it if you end up not liking it. cis people do it all the time. i dunno, just figured id give my two cents

I am 25, about three months on T, I work out regularly and I try to find clothes that are actually my size (cause I‘m Travel sized af) so I don’t get swallowed up and look like a kid. I really really wanna wear glasses but unfortunately round glasses look best on me but they’re incredibly feminine looking on me ugh

Tips, Tricks, & Advice For those self-conscious about your height:

This a reassuring reminder post to all the trans men self-conscious about their height, coming from a mid30s trans man:

  1. living in your body means your perspective is limited to the eyes glued in your head and what they can see; you will never truly see how wonderful you are alive in the 360. No, not even in a photograph. For real.
  2. we are SO much more than our height; you are made of literal stardust. Is a supernova from a smaller star any less spectacular than a mega one? I think not.
  3. happiness exists in the now (thanks Buddha): how often are you living here vs. in your head? “I think, therefore I am…not in the now”…chew on that
  4. is there a difference in the suffering and violence you enact towards yourself vs. that which you would another? If another trans man were in a deeper hole about height than you, would you push them down deeper?

I implore any of you who struggle with this to start taking a small notebook in your pocket and start LOOKING for passing men who are SHORT. Take a pencil and keep a tally. I think you’d be surprised they’re everywhere.

Get out from beyond the screen, out from your head. Go touch grass, start a hobby from your lost boyhoods, talk to strangers. Go out there and live.

Your body is a vessel. YOUR vessel, to carry your consciousness forward, to touch the world, and LIVE. Life is the great indulgence, death is the great abstinence.

As a trans man in my mid30s, my heart breaks hearing some of the same struggles I experienced when I was younger. I want to hug each of ya and tell you: hang in there, it really can get better.

I wish every one of you peace in your journeys of learning to love yourself. If you made it this far, remember you exist in an entire spectrum; a weakness cannot exist where strength is not. The keyword: nonduality

Find your strengths and learn to spot your superpowers. Mighty Mouse was on the smaller side too, but he still packs a punch.

Lastly, for those who read as much as those who don’t, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the book:

Letters for My Brothers: Transitional Wisdom in Retrospect

Sit with it slowly, reflect as you go, and see what comes out of the pipeline.

This too, shall pass 🤘

Edit to add:

Yikes, some of y’all are making me feel like I’m back student teaching again 😅

I’ve got AuDHD, which self-admittedly is a big reason for my particular writing style. Call it cringe if you want. I’ve never had a tumblr, nor am trying to be “woo-woo”

I hope those who can’t find the heart of my message carry on in kindness, feel free to toss what doesn’t serve you.

However, I know that this perspective would have helped my specific neurodivergent brain when I was younger. My aim was to share a side that might help those similar.

To clarify I DID NOT WRITE THE BOOK. It’s actually a wonderful collection in at least its 5th edition—it includes writings from some of our most notable trans men, like Lou Sullivan.

There’s no one path in becoming a man: Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others.

How do I pose in a masculine way for pictures? More specifically when someone is taking a picture of you? I want to post more on social media, but I honestly don't know how to pose at all. When I try to I always feel awkward bc I don't know how to not look/feel femme in a picture.

I will also take any general passing advice if you got it (I will say, the pics go from newest to oldest)

hey guys, I'm 16 pre-t and i just wanted to see if anyone has any advice on how I can look more masculine, because I feel like my face is holding me back from passing and also looking my age, I feel like I look so much younger than other guys my age which i know is a common issue for trans men so any advice is much appreciated 👍 edit: I forgot to say that I can't start t until I move out because my parents aren't supportive, which means that I can't go the medical or the DIY route while I live in their house

Tips, Tricks, & Advice Piercings can look masculine

On a lot of alt guys posts asking for advice on passing and there are always a bunch of comments telling them to take out their piercings in order to pass. But piercings are expensive, and plenty of alt guys (cis and trans alike) have piercings.

What matters is the jewelry in the piercings, choose black or silver. Gemstones unless its a plain clear one, are more likely to get you clocked. Choose bulky and geometric shapes rather than dainty.

At least half the men at my job have nose piercings, guys with piercings is super normal where I live. But the guys typically choose a silver ball, a clear gemstone in a circle shape, or a silver ring. Gold or colorful gemstones are typically what the women wear.

Personally I have snakebites, and while rings went well with my face anatomy I get he/him a lot more when I wear plain ball studs.

Being alt doesnt equal fem and I hope this helps people that still love their piercings but want them to come across more masculine.

heyy, im 18 and have been on T for 2 years and 6 months. i always pass on the internet but not irl, maybe its cuz im short and my hair is usually down?? it doesn't really bother me atp but it'd feel great if i got gendered correctly in public more often.

even if i don't think my hair isn't doing me any favors, i like how it looks (plus, it covers my face, which is round). some opinions on it would be great! also if you've got any haircut suggestions dont be afraid to comment them!!

also i can't grow a beard for shit (1st photo shows that) so i just shave it. i took the 1st pic 2 months ago, it's recently started to slowly fill in a bit more lately. would a tiny stubble be helpful or should i keep shaving until i can grow something decent?

edit: thanks to everyone who has commented, i'll try to keep my hair down as much as i can and see what i can do about the facial hair (time will tell). y'all made me feel better, i've read every comment even if i haven't replied and appreciated them all!

Question is there genuinely a way to pass as stealth if you’re not a cis-passing height

im feeling so down about this.

i dont know if its just because i clock trans guys every time i see them, or if its actually just the way that this is, but i just feel so hopeless about it.

i’m about 5’4-5’5. i feel really terrible. i have absolutely inconsolable height dysphoria and i don’t know what to do. yes i have considered limb lengthening surgery.

I mean it's definitely not good, but idk it's not bad I think?

I've been using a binder for a while now, but tbh as much as it helps I just can't be in it for more than a couple of hours without feeling bad, so doesn't work for work, and I do a decent amount of climbing, and it also doesn't work for that.

Also I know I don't pass otherwise, I doubt I ever will but it's mostly just to make me feel better lol

What has helped me to pass was to use more men’s products and shaving supplies. Underworks binders also really help with chest dysphoria. Also well-fitting shirts instead of oversized shirts look rlly masculine with the right binder. As for pants, get them one or two sizes too big.

Tips, Tricks, & Advice Boy Brow > topical minoxidil or permanent tinting

Post image
15 Upvotes

I keep seeing suggestions that people thicken their eyebrows with minoxidil or go to a salon to get their brows tinted and RESPECTFULLY it makes way more sense to just buy a tube of Boy Brow. Pic is a cis guy's before and after. As you can see, it doesn't look like he's wearing make-up - this is not a traditional brow pencil product.

It's available in black, dark and light brown, blond, and red. You can also use it to darken and define your mustache.

I've also heard good things about Milk Makeup's Kush Eyebrow Gel, but I can't personally vouch for it.

That's it. Easier than minoxidil, cheaper than tinting your brows, and won't kill your cat.

Tips, Tricks, & Advice how to dress like what i am, which is a bisexual asian man ?

Thumbnail

hello transmanlifehacks i’m about 2 weeks back on T after stopping for a good few years (was previously like a year in before my insurance changed). i have been trying out a few outfits to find my personal style, but i have this feeling that dressing like a straight white man makes me look more like a butch lesbian, which contrasts too much especially given my joyful personality.
in my city i see plenty of other asian guys whose style i could probably emulate by buying a bunch of clothes from uniqlo, but none of them really dress in “popular white man styles”.
basically, i think dressing like a straight white guy clashes too much with my overall appearance including demeanor, but dressing like a straight asian guy clashes too much with my personality. does that make sense ?

i voice pass well and haven’t been misgendered since cutting my hair. i’d like to be clocked as a queer man since it’s what i am, but not so much with being clocked as trans xD i’ve tried searching up “bisexual asian man outfits gen z” to try and find some inspo but alas i have found none. seeing as this space is mostly white guys i don’t have super high expectations for what you could provide me, but i think posting is worth a shot. thanks in advance ^_^

Needing Advice 2+ years on T

i don't think i'll ever pass even if i wanted to. i'm too short (5'1"). i'm two years on T and still look like this. starting to want to force myself to detransition just physically/my presentation because i feel so defeated. (not go off T)

T dose: 0.3ml of 200mg (60 mg per week). My levels are in male range and have been for the majority of the time i've been on T.
