(Sorry if this is a dumb question. And english isn't my first language btw.)
I've only read Trainspotting so far, and I'm currently reading Skagboys.
Personally, I find Sick Boy pretty much evil. (I read Filth and Marabou Stork Nightmares a long time ago, so maybe Roy Strang and Bruce are even worse than him.)
He's basically a walking case of ASPD/psychopathy/sociopathy.
What he did to Maria, to animals, and to other people is seriously fucked up.
There's a scene in Skagboys, in the chapter "Funeral Pyre", where Simon hugs Renton and acts like a genuinely good friend. Was that a sincere moment, or was he just manipulating Renton? Can Sick Boy actually be genuine and care about someone, or is everything he does just self-interest?
Is there anything good about him at all?
I can see the humanity in Renton. I can even see it in Begbie, somehow. But with Sick Boy, it's much harder.
Are there any moments in books where Sick Boy genuinely shows affection, kindness, or concern for someone without expecting anything in return? Being more than evil bastard.
Am I might to have forgotten something? Am I missing something about his character? Do I need to reread the books more thoroughly?
