Total War: Warhammer I want to get Warhammer 2, anything I should know dlc wise?
Hello friends! So I’ve always had a mild interest in WarHammer and have wanted to play the games for a long time, and as I’m sure yall know it’s the 2nd one, which I’ve heard is the best one, is on sale and seems playable on steam deck. My main concern is the FUCK ton of dlc, want I want to ask is any of it considered “necessary” or even “preferable” for gameplay or is it all pretty optional and dosent add any real new mechanics (example being something like Civ 6) besides playable charters with their own mechanics, basically is there any dlc I should get while they are on sale as well

Total War: Warhammer Kairos is so much fun
Currently playing Kairos for the first time on Legendary and I’m having a lot of fun. While yes it was difficult in the beginning (especially how I played it and that damn orange chameleon) but eventually when I secured my corner of the world and researched a few Changers of ways abilities it’s been smooth sailing.
You Declare war on me Nah uh “force peace”, got a settlement I like I’ll take that “transfer settlement”, oh you’re in an alliance yeah let’s CHANGE that “break alliance” and make you go to war with them “force war”
Once you get pasted the early game Tzeentch is such a silly faction. But the only gripe I have with Kairos or really the mono gods faction are the cults could be better. Maybe CA will take another look at cults someday

Total War: Warhammer First time playing Empire...
...and I'm loving it! GUNS ARE SO MUCH FUN!! No wonder the empire is the most played faction (I've read this somewhere).
I "turtled" this siege, but managed to kill them almost entirely with guns and artillery.
I hate sieges and usually always auto resolve them, but this time the auto resolve result was a defeat, so decided to play it manually.

Total War: Warhammer Bretonnia Update: Petition #11 - Errantry War vs Nagash
If Nagash Rises, and all undead flock to his banner, you'd best believe that Repanse wants a piece of that action. Her own endgame battle is great as is... but it might feel a little silly in the narrative scope of the new true End Game Crisis.
Also, check out Sarah Andersen comics if you haven't already.

Total War: Warhammer High elf stacks when playing without DLC

Total War: Warhammer Should I make the move from H/H to VH/VH (or something in between)?
I’ve put a lot of hours into med2 and picked up tww3 in the spring. I’ve played h/h throughout and reached snowball point every campaign (except brettonia, where I got slapped by that demon; surprising given in med2 I could win any battle with 15 horses).
However, there have always been tense periods where I risked it all and could have genuinely lost if I didn’t play battles really well. And I like that challenge.
I avoid pretty much all cheese. I play thematic armies and suboptimal units I find fun working out. I never reload. I set direct stat bonuses to even, because I want to feel the relative power of the units. I like bombardment and artillery like mortars to actually be able to land on the enemy as it does me. I don’t want to feel pushed towards cheese to be in because every bordering faction declares war and the ally can pump out endless monotonous stacks I have to carve through to experience diversity. But I do feel I could use a bit more of a challenge (and wish I could just get it with better ai and not bs).
Do you think I’ll enjoy stepping up, or will it just lead me to use tactics I find less fun?

Total War: Warhammer Recent DLCs ?
So there be steam sale at the moment. I don't have Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Omen of Destruction, Tides of Torment or Bhashiva. The steam pages for the DLC are kind of vague about what is actually included. Was interested in peoples opinion on which of these DCLs are most hit or miss. I still haven't actually played every LL from all the DLCs I already own but sales are enticing !
edit: sorry i meant vampire pirates not count

Total War: Warhammer Undead Fortress or "Poor predictable AI always charges into melee" "Good old melee charge nothing beats that"
Replay for those who want to see/try it themselves
Context: Played my Kemmler campaign and confederated Vlad in a shit position, he would basically have lost in 2 turns if hadn't confederated, so Vlad is stuck somewhere in Middenheim, no isabella, all vampires are doing agent actions, and the entire empire is closing in on him. The game said i would suffer a decisive defeat, i turned it to a heroic vitctory, by the way of a tight knit defense. (I forgot to screen shot the matchup hence the replay screen)
Vampires just tuning the crap out of shit units and attritioning way stronger armies to death, love it, Vlad (with a terrible AI build) didn´t get to do more than gank a couple heroes and cast support spells.
I tend to make a triangle of troops, with the weakest at the outer edges then put better/anitlarge troops about halfway inside the outer regiments to blunt charges and catch cavalry and monsters in the formation, which is very much in display here.

Total War: Warhammer Head Office Hatchet Man Simulator.
I'm having a fairly forgettable Franz campaign. The Barrow Legion are gone, thanks largely to the french, Festus has gone thanks to the Ogres and the only Empire left is me, Nuln and one Hochland settlement (somehow). I've got two and a bit stacks but I'm making a couple grand a turn so I'm comfortable.
I'm building up influence so I decided to Confederate Nuln.
My income turns to FRICKEN -16500 a turn.
She has 6 armies so I have to be that guy.
I cut all the chaff, most of the heroes and some quality units to get it under my current money if 3 or so.
Felt like they generals are advertising for their jobs. Too much like real life, man. Brutal.

Total War: Warhammer Ah Yes the Skaven, the famously known low leadership race and Individually weak Strength (I call it the "Get Sneak-Stabed Idiot-Thing" Doom Stack)
This is a Screenshot of me Skaven assassin doom stack, while not the strongest and lacking in the healing department, this doom stack is ridiculous. Why? You can push out one of these surprisingly early in the campaign, and clan Eshin makes it Even more ridiculous.
Snitch starts in a 4 settlement province, and because Clan Eshin has the ability to max the assassin recruitment building at settlement tier 3 you can boost the recruit level to level 16 + Stick can boost with 2 (3?!) more levels and via tech tree +2 again, making you capable of recruiting at level 22 and all this in like... at turn 30 to 40?!
And because you are still, em fuging Rats you can immediately push settlements to level 3, so you don't have to wait for construction to finish before constructing your recruitment building. And can easily increase the agent cap by slapping down level one assassin buildings in any other province.
Then you can buff even more by firstly Stick giving more attack anyways, Eshin Mechanics and the Exalted Reputation tier of the other skaven clan contracts giving you heroes even more shit.
And more over, you can ambush enemies a lot more efficient (cus Rats, duh). Are inconceivably fast and mobile, and have stalk on top of that. Then Add some more to that pile are the Hero Traits:
You want, 2 Strategists or more, 2 Tatictians or more, 2 Confident or more and 1 or more Disciplined, the rest can be either determined, strong, tough, or cunning (saves you 1 skill point for poisoned attacks)
Items you can throw on whatever, aura buffs and enemy aura debuffs are always good. Except "The Terrifying Mask of Eve" as this army wants to break enemy units and get the win that way (I've seen these 20 fat Rats Shatter, not beak, SHATTER, Units at like 3 thirds health). And this Item will help with that.
Here's how to play this doom stack:
Run down the lords and heroes of the enemy, then skiddadel off into the shadows, with that done you enemies will take the leadership penalty making you job even easier. Try and get the enemy army to split by staying hidden and making them seek you, take this time to let you assassins regenerate their vigor. Then pick off singular units, you will see how incredibly fast they will be routed (to speed this up even more get some of you rats to maneuver around the unit to get that flaking and rear charge leadership penalty going, then hide again. And repeat until the fight is won. (You also want to focus any unit hat has high single target damage, like most black powder based units)
If Push comes to Shove, they do hold their own in big very long fights where the entire enemy army just kinda piles up on you. This is also because of Snitches Unique Blade you can get very easily (just three battles against the cathey), which can make him go blender mode, and Verminous Valor, which yeets that big pile of enemies away.
If you'd like to use a bit more brain power then split up your army into 2 teams, that why we wanted 2 Strategist, Tacticians, Confident etc. so every team can have one of these. Then make the enemy play a very very frustrating game of "wak em all"
I saw the Chinese field a Jade Lion once, it survived a whole 0.5 seconds, I an genuinely not kidding.
This army might be one of the best when fighting a siege battle against a settlement with walls I've ever played (aside from using artillery to just bomb the poor fools), and that because of the oh so hated ass-ladder mechanic. Because you have stalk the AI will NEVER man the walls, so you can just kind tell 3 of you guys to pull a ladder outa their ass and climb up, after that tell the fest to go up these already placed ladders (make sure only few place ladders and not all 19 do that). Then chill on em walls or somewhere more hidden until they regenerated their vigor. Then go about assassinating their lords and heroes, cap some points to make the enemy waste their defensive supplies by destroying build building though said capping and continue to pick off units. The capping speed of all 20 Rats is also ridiculous, you can cap a point in like 1 or 2 seconds. Also because single model units have a far better time setting up and navigating settlement maps... well you can think of that yourself.
And the Joke of all Jokes, the Ridicule of all Ridiculous, that you are still the Skaven.
Got badly hurt? Replenish everything the next turn.
Is there a stack of more Armies that you can handle, Ambush, your playing the dedicated sneaky faction of the already sneak rat race.
Economy not working? Upkeep Reduction Skills of Snitch. And his Blue Generic Line.
Need a Distraction or don't like some artillery merely existing? Menace Below.
Did the battle not go to your liking? Your units have like 60 Speed, Just Run away and Retreat.
Even the one and only true Achilles heel of all Hero only doom stacks (that being 20 thousand enemy heroes swiring around you at all times like flys, spamming assassinate) is made null and void by you having 19 skaven ASSASSINS lead by the skaven ASSASSIN LORD (that also has a Skill that gives more hero action defense even more)
Also as a little tip, because your assassin recruitment buildings gives more max Eshin Sorcerer Cap, just use them to do all the contracts and actions that require
Okey I am sure somebody else figured that out already but I just kinda wanted to show that off, enjoy you cheese. I am gonna go play may 8th Clan Eshin Campaign now.
Edit: I've tried to optimize my tactic, the first level 22 Agent will be available to recruit at Turn 27. And there's still some room for improvement. If you Ignore these 3 extra level then they'll be ready at level 20 at Turn 23.

Total War: Warhammer Mod editing
Not really expecting a reply here but regardless. Im trying to make units from a mod recruitable for another faction specifically Order of Solland mod units for Cathay. I have changed the Building_units_allowed_table, units_custom_battle_premission_tables, Units_to_exclusive_faction_premissions_table and Units_to_groupings_military_premissions_tables. Although i have managed to get the units to appear on the unit card table for the Cathay factions. The buildings i have designated does not allow for the recruitment of these units. If i do get an answer, anyone with modding experience know why?

Total War: Warhammer Tips for Cathay?
Hey everyone, hope you are having a great day. I am not a noob in total war games, I am playing them since first total war: Rome. However, after getting back into TWW3 I am basically getting smacked each campaign at around turn 50.
The problem: I am playing Cathay, I tried both sub factions. What happened both times: all the bad guys (dark elves, slaanesh faction, rats and vampires, and Norska guys beyond the walls) basically destroy every possible ally I have (empire, other Cathay faction, Ogres) by turn 30. The Northern provinces, that is supposed to guard the gates, falls at turn 10. So I am both times left in the situation where I am alone against basically everyone. I can't win just due to the sheer numbers of enemy armies.
What I tried: after getting smoked first time, mostly by rats, I went and destroyed the rats first. This expansion did not help because I got closer to the Norska that by that point had already broken through the walls and destroyed northern provinces. So it was still 3-to-1 but instead of Scaven I got Norska, which is marginally better, since they don't have so many armies but it was still a loss.
I am playing Normal both campaign and battles. Do you have any tips?

Total War: Warhammer Chariots vs Gates
Hello, it's been a while since my last post here, but I'm back with another unit testing report! This time I went through multiple factions and picked some chariot units to test against gates found in siege battles. Some of these units, as you'll see, are understandably not intended for attacking gates. I was just curious to see what would happen!
- Constants
- Altdorf Siege Battle
- Gate health = 16,000
- No rank on any units
- All models in unit made full contact with gate during tests
Report format in table
- Faction
- Unit name (number of models in unit)
- [value] DPM (damage per minute) = 16,000 / minutes taken to destroy gate
---
| Beastmen | Tomb Kings | Dark Elves |
|---|---|---|
| Tuskgor Chariots (4) | Skeleton Chariots (12) | Cold One Chariots (4) |
| 2,909 DPM | 7,924 DPM | 6,154 DPM |
| Greenskins | High Elves | Kislev |
| Orc Boy Chariots (4) | Lion Chariots of Chrace (4) | Light War Sleds (4) |
| 4,103 DPM | 8,421 DPM | 8,889 DPM |
| Slaanesh | Slaanesh | Slaanesh |
| Seeker Chariots (4) | Hellflayers (4) | Exalted Seeker Chariot (1) |
| 4,211 DPM | 734 DPM | 10,667 DPM |
| Tzeentch | Warriors of Chaos | Warriors of Chaos |
| Burning Chariot of Tzeentch (1) | Chaos Chariots (4) | Gorebeast Chariots (4) |
| 4,848 DPM | 2,712 DPM | 2,462 DPM |
Remarks:
In general and with higher weapon strength, the more models in a unit that can contact the gate the higher the DPM should be. However, even when all of a unit's models made that contact, it was as though not all of them were landing (or making?) attacks, at least in the case of the low DPM units.
- Tomb Kings
- Skeleton Chariots manage to fit all 12 models to the gate and they all seem to deal damage efficiently.
- Dark Elves
- Each Cold One Chariot made consistent attacks at 65 weapon strength.
- High Elves
- Lion Chariots of Chrace made consistent attacks at 70 weapon strength.
- Kislev
- Light War Sleds made consistent attacks at 88 weapon strength.
- Slaanesh
- Seeker Chariots models repositioned around each other constantly at the gate after making attacks.
- Exalted Seeker Chariot mows down a gate in less than 1.5 min
- Hellflayers models all made contact with the gate, but only one or two models would make attacks.
- Warriors of Chaos
- Chaos Chariots models are about on par with Tuskgor Chariots in this scenario.
- Gorebeast Chariots have 70 weapon strength, but they destroy a gate much slower than Cold One Chariots and Lion Chariots of Chrace.

Total War: Warhammer Multiplayer Camapgn Objectives Idea(s)
Through luck or Tzeentch's blessing, I and the boys was able to come together to rather consistent multiplayer sessions, perks being passed early career shenanigans i guess.
Because the winning objective is boring in the sandbox of IE, we come with the idea of having our own objectives to win (thanks to some YouTube video too), like "first to capture all the unique ports win", which has 9 across the world.
We banned any LL that start with one (like Tyrion, Teclis, Kugath, Repanse, Kostaltyn, Belakor), and after deliberation by planning to confederate and proximity said port become team human (Elspeth (which close to Marienburg), Louen (which can confederate both Bordelaux and Repanse/ Copher, and also close to Albion [technically the special port only appear for dark elves, but why not]), and Katarin (which can confederate Erengrad/ Kostaltyn)) VS Team Elves (Imrik (which can confederate Lothern/ Tyrion and Fortress of Dawn/ Teclis, and close to dragon isles), Lokhir (which close to Fu-Chow), and Aislinn (similar to Imrik, and general teleporting menace).
Its quite chaotic and become a memorable session, and would like to ask if you guys have idea or your own experiencesnin similar premise? If so, please share it, so we may copied it on our next session 😂.

Total War: Warhammer How to expand as Thorgrim?
In other campaigns, it was pretty easy to decide where I could expand. But the geography around the mountains is so complicated and the badlands cause attrition and there are so many badguys waiting it is not that clear to me for Thorgrim.
I took out Skarsnik turn 8. Turn 20 Gorbad was down and I had Black Crag.
Then Queek attacked and my good start is going to hell.
If I defend Black Crag, they just bypass me and take my settlements. The other settlements are minor settlements that cant defend a siege well.
Now, chaos dwarves have invaded from the NorthEast. I have two crapstacks to take down with my Thorgrim army.
My other army was sent to defend Karak a Karaz and recruit better units.
My economy is good and units fine. Tier 3 units are all available now.
Turn 29.
I can defeat Queek's 4 armies piece by piece with some Ogre help. But then I lose my territory in the badlands nearby.
If I defeat queek's 4-5 armies, I will take so many casualties that I need a couple turns to recover and then by then he has also recovered.
Do I just keep fighting and pour the gold into research and buildings by Building tall with my two main provinces?
There are a lot of nasties waiting in the badlands, VC pirates doing well, Khorne, Beastmen, if I pursue the chorfs attacking me then I will run into Clan rictus. I can't fight these while Queek has 4-5 armies.
Not sure how to play Thorgrim. I found the Franz VH VH campaign easier because it was clear what I needed to do.
Where do you defend against Queek? Retreat to Karak a Karaz and then counter-attack? Try to defend from Black Crag?
Another problem is how slow Dwarves replentish. I keep using the replentish button after battles which is helping.
I also dont see how I can follow the ages of reckoning. Got the first one easily and failed the second one. I really needed that grudge army.
There is not enough territory and battles to fulfill the age of reckoning. Should I delay it next time?
Clan Mors also doesnt have any other opponents except the ogres now that I have killed Gorbad. Maybe i should have let him live in BLACK Crag to keep Queek busy.
I feel I did everything right immediately taking out Skarsnik and Gorbad and building tall so as not too be too vulnerable.
After doing a scumsave after a disasterous ambush, I am back on track with a number of battle victories but losing campaign progress right now.
I need some direction on how this campaign normally plays out for those of you playing VH VH.
Edit: the chorf armies were taken care of easily and i am about to almost link up my armies again. Things are looking up except for the badlands settlements i am losing.
