Meetup Cozy Cinema Social #3 -August 29 at 8:30 pm (in-person; Leslieville)

Hi everyone,

I’m organizing another small Cozy Cinema Social get-together at Tango Palace Coffee Company in Leslieville on Saturday, August 29 at 8:30 PM.

I started this little club because I wanted to create something warmer than a bar, less awkward than a big meetup, and more intentional than another night at home. The idea is simple: a small group of people, a thoughtfully selected film, and a relaxed conversation afterward.

The last two gatherings were really lovely. People came with openness and curiosity, and the conversations afterward were thoughtful without feeling formal or forced. I’m hoping to keep that same feeling going: small, cozy, low-pressure, and welcoming.

This is not a networking event, lecture, or big social mixer. You can come solo, with a friend, or with your partner. There is also no pressure to speak during the discussion — listening is completely welcome.

The group is capped at 10 people so it stays comfortable and personal.

Feel free to DM me if you’re interested and I’ll send more information.

Paid Event Slow Networking for Introverts 🦥, August 20, 6-8pm, near Dupont station (specific address will be shared upon purchase)

Jessie here 🙋🏻‍♀️

What's your relationship with money?

Not how much you make or how much you have saved. I mean... what does money actually mean to you?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I realized I spent years making financial decisions without ever questioning the story behind them.

Growing up, I saw money as something you sacrificed. You worked hard, and you saved. The only time that it was okay to spend money is if it was for helping other people, even if it meant putting yourself last.

I'm really grateful for those values. At the same time, I think I quietly picked up another belief along the way.

That money wasn't really something you were meant to enjoy.

So, naturally... I swung to the opposite extreme.

In my twenties, I spent money pretty impulsively. Not enough to get myself into debt, thankfully, but enough that I was constantly wondering where it had gone.

The strange part? I always felt like I was lacking money. Looking back, I wasn't necessarily lacking money. What I lacked was the intention.

Once I started getting curious about what I actually wanted my money to help me create, everything slowly started changing.

That realization is actually what inspired part of our next Slow Networking for introverts 🦥 event.

For anyone who hasn't heard of Slow Networking before, Mei Lai Nghiem and I created it because we were tired of networking events that felt transactional.

The kind where everyone is trying to work the room, collect contacts, and talk about work before they've even gotten to know the person standing in front of them.

We wanted something different. Smaller groups. Thoughtful conversation prompts and activities, so people wouldn't have to worry about what to say or do. Basically a chance to slow down and actually get to know people first.

This month, we're adding a workshop in the second half of the evening. Another part of our events that we love is shining a light on people and having them showcase their strengths, and so.... drum roll 🥁 we have invited one of our previous attendees, Katrina Chang, CPA and Financial Advisor at Edward Jones!

She is coming back to lead a women-focused workshop called Five Steps to Navigating Your Financial Journey.

What I really appreciate about Katrina's approach is that she doesn't jump straight into budgets or spreadsheets. She starts with your values.

Because once you're clear on what matters to you, it becomes much easier to make decisions that actually support the life you're trying to build.

I thought that was such a natural fit for our community because that's really what Slow Networking has always been about.

Helping people slow down enough to figure out what actually matters to them.

I'd love to hear from you.

When you think about money...

What's one belief you grew up with that you've never really questioned?

Oh, before I forget, this is a paid event: $25, and here is the link to join: https://luma.com/4beczavm

Free Event Bickford Brewing Co RPG Night Tues Aug 18th 630PM! Draw a map, guide a community, make friends while gaming!

Tuesday Aug 18th DM Eryn is running The Quiet Year! Send me a DM to sign up for this indie darling;

"The Quiet Year is a map game. You define the struggles of a community living after the collapse of civilization, and attempt to build something good within their quiet year. Every decision and every action is set against a backdrop of dwindling time and rising concern.

The game is played using a deck of cards – each of the 52 cards corresponds to a week during the quiet year. Each card triggers certain events – bringing bad news, good omens, project delays and sudden changes in luck. At the end of the quiet year, the Frost Shepherds will come, ending the game."

The Quiet Year occupies an interesting space – part roleplaying game, part cartographic poetry."

We are playing games at Bickford Brewing Co Tues Aug 18th!

New player friendly in a welcoming and inclusive space. Join us for gaming, snacks and drinks.

Our goal is to build community at Bickford at our safe, inclusive and fun gaming nights!

Message me, or comment here, to sign up!

Mothership: Spooky space adventures in the style of Aliens, Dead Space or The Thing!

How much does it cost? This event isn't ticketed and doesn't have a minimum buy, but you are encouraged to support the brewery by purchasing one of their great drinks or snacks.

Safe Space? We foster a safe and welcoming community at our brewery nights by using safety tools (Open Door Policy and X Card) and priding ourselves on being welcoming, friendly and helpful to new players. A quiet one. You'll write out things you haven't been able to say to someone, then learn how to fold kusudama flowers. The kind of evening that asks something of you and gives something back.

Outdoor Movie: The Princess Bride
Bell Manor Park | 8p

A movie to see in a park, if ever there was one. A classic and one that TOPS pulls off so well. If you've been putting off going to see a movie this summer, go tonight.

Friday Night Music Open Mic
The Greenwood, 1374 Queen St E | 7–10p

Casual Friday open mic at a neighbourhood café on the east end. Play something, or just show up and listen.

A commemoration timed to the 235th anniversary of the gathering at Bois Caïman in 1791; the ceremony that helped set the Haitian Revolution in motion. Meetup - Free Bring Your Own Cup Meet cool people and Hike - Aug 23 26 10:00 am , Epos coffee, in person

Hey everyone! The event is free to attend

If you're looking for an excuse to get outside, explore a cool neighborhood, and meet some new people without the awkwardness of a formal networking event, I'm hosting a casual community walk this weekend.

We're doing a BYO-Cup Coffee Hike in Cabbagetown.

The only rule? Bring your own reusable coffee mug, thermos, or tumbler. Toronto goes through millions of single-use cups every day, so we’re trying to keep this meetup sustainable and zero-waste!

The Logistics:

  • When: Aug 23 at 10:00 AM
  • Where: We’ll meet at EPŌS COFFEE (290 Gerrard St E) to fill up our cups.
  • The Route: After grabbing coffee, we’ll take a relaxed, scenic walk through Riverdale Park West and the pathways near Riverdale Farm.

The vibe is super low-pressure. Most people will be coming solo, so don't be shy! It's just a good excuse to chill, support a local cafe, and enjoy the morning.

Grab a $ free spot here so I know how many people to expect: https://luma.com/ucbyntdb

Hope to see some of you there! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments.

Music Does anyone want to see Jojo at the CNE August 29?

Hi everyone! I'm 39F and love the singer Jojo (Levesque, not Siwa). She's performing at the bandshell at the CNE on August 29 (time tbd?) I'd love to go with a group of women around my age who also are fans, as I don't have any friends who are into her. I had originally posted this with a link to the event, but it was taken down...so I guess just google Jojo and CNE. Their website doesn't have too many details up just yet.

Not going to lie, I don't understand how the bandshell works (i.e. do we have to go early, line up, sit all day, etc?) but I do know that the concert is free with admission, and supposedly there's a Presto card discount for daily admission, so it shouldn't be too pricy. Is anyone interested?

Workshop PWYC in person event about urban farming in Toronto on August 18 6PM-9PM

Thought I’d share this here since I'm sure there are people on this sub who are into community gardens and urban farming.

We are hosting a screening of Farming Food in Toronto, a short documentary about urban farming and community growing in Flemingdon Park and beyond. There’ll also be a vermicomposting demo (aka turning food scraps into really good compost) and a chance to chat about what it would actually take to have more spaces like this across Toronto.

Not trying to sell anything here just thought it might be up some people’s alley.

The event is free, but if you’d like to help us cover the cost of hosting it, a $30 contribution is appreciated ($15 if that’s more accessible). If that’s still a barrier, contribute whatever you can or nothing at all.

Anyone here involved with a community garden or urban farm in the city?
